I'd say, from what I recall and in my opinon

 

Negative:

- Gigantism

- Black and white

- chicken is afraid of you

- vertigo/upside down game

- two left hands/throwing magic behind you

- Weak muscles/ huge recoil from being hit

 

Neutral

- Cursing

- Farting

- Being Gay

- That one where it says something like 'you're good at many things'

 

Positive

- Dwarfism [many treasures you gotta be small to get to]

- Little to no recoil from being hit

-OCD/getting magic from destroying shit

- photographic memory/knowing where and how many enemies are left in a room

 

 

If I forgot any trait let me know.

I beat the final boss last night. How did I do it? Well, the legitamate way was only getting me a quarter left on the second form's health. There's only so many times you can get lucky with the knife wall attack. Even with a Retaliation Rune (or two), you're not going to get quite far enough if you can't handle repeatedly avoiding that particular attack.

 

I thought the Archmage would never be a good choice, but I did level up quite a bit and invested in magic attack strength. Still, you need Chakrams because I just spammed Chakrams. I had 432 Mana, with the Chakrams only costing me 14 Mana. If you get him at the Chakrams maximum distance where it stays still for a few seconds, add a few more because you can cast multiple, it's a fast fight.

 

STILL BE CAREFUL OF YOUR HEALTH! My Archmage could really only take four hits, and I had three hits on me near the end.

 

As far as traits, I imagine the Gay trait might change the ending scene in the credits. I never saw Black and White as a negative, and depending on what Spell you have, Two Left Hands won't affect you or can sometimes be useful.

 

For me, the Near-Sighted and Far-Sighted traits didn't seem like they would be that hazardous, but the effect onscreen slowed down my computer. There are moments where you do want to see what's exactly at the corner on the screen, so Near-Sighted would be negative.

 

Perma-roid, a.k.a. push enemies further back, should be a positive. It definitely helps in the final boss battle, but other times it can push back wiley enemies way far back and make fighting them a hassle. Still overall a positive compared to Weak Limbed.

 

Nostalgia is another neutral like the B&W trait. It's a Sepiatone filter. Dyslexia is mostly neutral, but if you ever want to read Journals, well, yeah...

 

EDIT: Oh, and it totals how many children it took you. For me: 188 (Damn fourth boss...)

 

Now for Legacy+! Already defeated the first boss again with a Dwarf Spellsword launching Mega Spells (or whatever).

I've beaten New Game+. In total I was at 245 children at Lv. 199. Before I beat the game at around Lv. 115 with 188 children. Herodotus is a bitch, but this time I was more prepared. The boss battle still has a luck factor, but once you're playing on New Game+, any higher value treasure chest will give you a blueprint and fairy chests, once you have all the Runes, will give you stat boosters.

 

There is a New Game+2 and it is Dark Souls level of difficult. First room I entered I died because all the enemies are the top tier type. I get 25 Gold per coin now, so you're bound to at least get one upgrade at your manor. Still, I think I'm satisfied with my run of the game. I'd like to have had my family fully decked out with the top tier armors, but blueprints are harder to come by than fairy chests.

Grabbed this last night. Already close to 5 hours in, just beat the first boss this afternoon. This game is pretty fucking good!

 

I feel like I'm terrible at it, though. I'm already around level 40 and only just starting to explore the forest. I've been watching Northernlion's videos on the game and he beat the first boss at a much lower level than I did.

 

So far, the only trait I absolutely hate is vertigo. I gave it a shot on my last run and I feel it doesn't make the game more challenging, it just makes it a hassle and sucks the fun right out of it. Plus, I think it actually gave me motion sickness. I had to stop playing and felt a bit off for a good 20 mins.

 

So, yeah, I think I'll be staying the hell away from vertigo characters from now on.

Bosses come down to finding a pattern. (Well, the first three at least.) The Architect is key to defeating bosses because finding your way to the boss chamber is always the more difficult part. The final boss does have a pattern, but you should be more concerned with mobility and dodging. That's why Vertigo is the worst trait: it hinders your mobility.

 

I unlocked the Dragon class last night, but I'm also stuck in New Game+2. The Dragon class probably would have been useful in the less difficult variants of the game. In this mode, there's nothing to really gain except for a harcore challenge. It is practically Ikaruga with how many projectiles and flying enemies there are in a single room.

Holy shit, you weren't kidding. I used the architect earlier until I could make it to the fourth boss, just to see what it was and how much I needed to grind (the Land of Darkness has been kicking my ass pretty hard). I can deal it decent damage but goddamn I do not have the skills to deal with all that shit. So far I've been favoring a more tank-y play style where I go for high HP classes because I tend to play rather recklessly. I really don't think that approach is going to cut it here...

Extra knockback? My first instinct was to put on lifesteal gear because of the amount of enemies you're fighting but that turned out to not work too well. You make a good point about the mages, though. I kept trying to go for them and would get hit by the slimes jumping all over the damn place. I'll try ignoring the mages next time I make it there.

I never tried it with a Spellsword, but I did discover Fire Shield took Herodotus down a lot. The only problem is that if you're an Archmage, it only takes four-five hits to die. So if you happen to not get a single Gravitor, or the little ones start jumping right away, you're screwed.

 

The ONE trait you want is the one where you "don't feel foot pain." That means the ground spike traps will not work against you. Considering how there are only two open spots below the platforms, those are the only places you can land if you have to take out little Herodotus slimes. Sure you can land on the traps, but you can't backtrack too quickly and it involves jumping. You know, jumping while other slimes are jumping towards you.

Hombre, it was for FLD to figure out but yeah, that one. With no spikes coming to get you, you can walk on the floor all you want. You can stop if you have to and it makes walking backwards possible. In about 10-20 seconds, most of the slimes will be on the floor for you to slaughter with laughter because now the boss fight is now way easier.

 

Of course the fire shield works really well as well.

Didn't realize it was a secret to everybody. :P

 

My strategy was to get rid of a Gravitor when it popped out. I would, ideally, only have two Gravitors floating around. Anymore and you'll soon realize that the rock spikes act like vertical projectiles forcing you to jump from you're footing, and jump you will into jumping slimes.

 

All I know is that Chakrams are the best spell. They help clear out the bottom floor, unlike knives which can't hit the small slimes. Seriously, name something Chakrams aren't good for!

Ah, that makes sense. I spent most of my time jumping around so I didn't really think that one would be useful there.

 

Also, thank god, I unlocked a "skill" that lets me re-randomize the children. I was getting to a point where I wished I hadn't unlocked a few of the classes. When the choices are Archmage, Archmage and Spelunky it just kinda makes me want to kill myself right away.

 

Anyway, spent some time grinding yesterday and today, I should probably give the boss another shot soon.
