Faiblesse Des Sens
I keep expecting Final Fantasy talk but you guys are just talking about some MMO.

TCP
Rumour going around that there won't be trophies in the game.
Mal
There is no need for them... Â With that said, I need to research on how best to mimic a geologist in game. I must be able to solo bushwhack on the tallest mountains and deepest canyons. I must also be able to splunk. This is Final Geology. In this, I can actually give "magic" as an explanation to weird formations! [in normal language, I'm warming up to getting this game]
TCP
Played this a lot today. Servers have been a little unreliable but other than that it's been pretty fun. As I mentioned earlier, this is my very first MMO, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but so far, it's basically a single player Final Fantasy with a bunch of other people running around in it. I'm playing as a lancer, working my way up to dragoon. I ended up on the Cactuar server with one of my friends, so if you guys are on there, keep an eye out for Magnitude Poppop. Now, kind of a noob question, is it normal for these types of games to not have voice acting?
Mr. GOH!
MMOs traditionally have somewhat limited or no voice acting. It would be expensive to re-record lines every time a quest gets tweaked. Also pointless to record dialog for every 'Kill ten wolves and bring me their pelts" type of quest, which make up the majority of MMO quests.
TCP
Makes sense!  I know MMO have rocky launches, I was hoping this weekend would go a little smoother since, A) this is a relaunch and B) it's not even the full launch, makes me worry about how tomorrow's going to go. I managed to get in OK on Saturday, but Sunday I couldn't get in at all. Also I need to get a keyboard, even if it's wired.
Mr. GOH!
Might as well get a whole PC, then, Cowboy. Slippery slope from keyboard to gaming PC.
FredEffinChopin
Looks like I'm going to end up trying to get on Cactuar server, as one of my friends already got in there, and Hyperion is full. I'm already losing people here ><
TCP
Excellent! Cactuar is the greatest! Dooo it! Doooo it! I'm still fairly low level due to not being able to get on, so I've been hanging out in the Gridania area.  Goh, one day I'm all "you know, I think I'll use a keyboard on my PS3" the next day I'm upgrading graphic cards and installing mods!
Mal
I heard that there might be a free trial soon? That might do me in.
FredEffinChopin
I'm stuck at work, but Cactuar was full for me when I tried to sign in earlier. When I get home, if Cactuar is still full we plan on trying to find a server with vacancies, at the same time. Â Cowboy, your character is already on Cactuar? Not sure if I missed something, are you gonna be on tonight, or are you upgrading the pc? If you are anyone else want someone to coordinate servers with, I can post in here when my friend and I are choosing. World passes are being given out next month, and I'm hoping to unite with my Hyperion buddies at that point.
TCP
Yeah I'm already on Cactuar and I'm playing PS3. I've got to go into work right for a bit tonight but I should be back around 8pm PST. However, problem is, I doubt you'll have any luck getting on any NA servers tonight. I've been trying to log on since 3:45, I got in the queue at one point with 41 players in front of me, and then I got kicked out. Apparently they've severely limited access to all the servers so they don't crash. :-\ Edited August 27, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
FredEffinChopin
What a bleeding mess. I can't seem to get into Cactuar, but it seems like things are just going to be hectic for the next couple of days... I'm going to be trying to get a character in there and Hyperion during that time. In the meantime, I have one on Coeurl. Hopefully we can all end up in the same place here. If not initially, then when the world pass drops. TCP
I got in Cactuar pretty easily tonight, I'll be on for the next hour or so if you get in. If you want to get in and just play, apparently the Japanese servers are super reliable.
FredEffinChopin
Cactuar Frederic Chopin Seekers of the Sun (Girdania) Miqo'te, Conjurer  See you in-game!      Yes, two of those are of me posing my ass off in new gear, but only because the other two were taken before I turned the settings up  >.> Edited August 27, 2013 by FredEffinChopin
TCP
Mmmm PC version looks so good!  I'll add you to my friends list tonight, assuming I can get on.
FredEffinChopin
Fucking hell.... So when you select a server that's full in character creation, the game doesn't *say* anything to you, it just closes the window as if it accepted your selection, and then chooses another server for you. I just discovered this the hard way when I tried to send my friend an inv. So I don't know wth to do now. It seems like there is only a single open server, and I have two characters across two servers that aren't with anyone I'm trying to play with. I'm going to try to spam Cactuar for a bit, but I'm not too hopeful. Also, the servers I have chars on are closed atm... What a fucking mess. How many decades does SE need to do this before they stop behaving like fucking noobs? I know it wouldn't be the easiest thing to set something up that aims to keep friends together when they join a (paid!) MMO, but at least an effort would show that someone over there has a working brain and isn't afraid to use it. Then again, I'm the guy who took a char to lvl 9 for what will likely amount to no reason...
TCP
That sucks. This entire "launch", which isn't really a launch but early access to a relaunch of an MMO, has been awful, it's only going to get worse now that people that can go to the stores to buy the game. My advice to you, Fred, is to try to build your character and get onto Cactaur at like 7am PST. I logged in yesterday morning and this morning at that time and had no issues, and the server was notably emptier than it had been.
FredEffinChopin
So I'm in. Got my levels and gear back too.
FredEffinChopin
10 hours of server shutdown coming tonight. They're adding more servers, and expanding the capacity of the existing ones. I hope this clears up all the nonsense. It's been taking me 10 mins on average to spam my way in each time, which means I've been avoiding logging when reasonable.  Is anyone on here even playing? I'm also in communication with people across two other servers, and we're trying to make sure that we all get in the same place once world transfers begin.  I'm absolutely loving it in here btw, despite SE being professional fuckups and preventing me from playing with my friends. I'll get into some details that I admire when I have some time to sit and write. Perhaps when I get home from work tonight and there is no game to play. For now, my screens are here until I figure out where I'd like to post them album-style.  32 CNJ/WHM (Conjurer, White Mage) 15 ACN (Arcanist)
TCP
I've been playing this game as much as I can, which isn't often. I'm a level 16 lancer at the moment. Still Magnitude Poppop on the Cactuar server. Sucks that we won't be able to play at all tonight but something needed to be done, it's been getting worse, last week I could get on easily at 7am, not the case today. I don't get Square Enix at all. The preorder numbers were very high, add in a percentage of people who don't preorder... how could they not be expecting such heavy traffic at launch??
