What is going on here!?! Most Marvel news tends to follow up here almost instantly. One of the biggest news that the MCU has accomplished since creating the MCU happened yesterday, and nobody has said anything!?! This is crazy!

Sony and Marvel finally sealed the deal over Spider-Man. He's going to show up in the MCU and they've made room for him by moving Thor 3, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and the Inhumans back to give Spider-Man his own movie in their universe. They will recast Spider-man (I would like a younger Peter, or better yet Miles Morales), and 'reboot' the franchise once again. I'm hoping a reboot doesn't include his origin.

I didn't think Sony would do it, I thought they would've been stubborn and would decide to build their Sinister Six movie moving forward from the flop that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2. If Marvel can keep the quality train running full steam ahead we may actually finally get the right Spider-Man movie, something along the lines of a movie with the visual quality of the final fight scene in ASM 2 vs the Rhino, you know the one that cut to credits right when you said "why didn't the movie look like this the whole way through?"

There was a mention in the statuses...

But yeah, pretty great news.

For a non-nerd* perspective, my wife's reaction was "it doesn't seem like he would really fit in with the rest of them."

*Well, less nerd.

The Sinister Six movie sounds nowhere near as bad as an Aunt May solo film.

Sounds like they want to cast a younger Spider-Man, which I'm not too psyched about. We've already seen Spider-Man in highschool twice now, let's do an established Spider-Man in his 20's. On his first solo film, do the montage intro showing his origin, and you can show him during the Battle of New York in the first Avengers, maybe saving some people while the Avengers stopped the aliens. Also, I'd cast Donald Glover and have a black Peter Parker, which would also take care of the problem of the Marvel films being white people (with the occasional black side kick). OR.... do a white Peter Parker and give him a few movies, kill him off, and bring in Miles Morales.

Also kind of bummed Captain Marvel has been pushed back.  :(

As much as I enjoy Miles Morales as Spider-Man, they really need to actually have an established Spider-Man before they can kill him off with it having some kind of impact in-universe and out.  Otherwise it'll just bring out a whole lot of people screaming that they're trying to be PC for the sake of it.

Will Smith for established black/latino Spider-Man!

What I want is a Spider-Man 2099 movie, because Miguel O'Hara is the best Spider-Man.

"Danielle" Radcliffe.

:bun-snicker:

I think it'd be cool if Spidey was one of a wave of low-level local superheros that appeared as a reaction to the existence of the Avengers focusing on world-ending threats. He should be young and not established. I have no preference as to whether it's Miles or Peter.

It has to be Peter only because he's a bigger name that essentially spells out Spider-Man to the common audience. However, seeing as how the Marvel Cinema Universe is largely about continuity, we could have one eventually in a later Phase introducing Miles after the death of a new Peter.

I don't think the majority of people would care if they kept him as Peter Parker and made him black just like most people don't give a crap that Nick Fury is played by Samuel L Jackson. There will be the hardcore nerds who bleat about Jonny Storm being black now who will do the same about Peter Parker, but they can take a running jump so far as I'm concerned, and we all know they will watch the film regardless because they are hardcore nerds.

Please don't let it be any of the Smith family though.

a bit late, but re: Spider-Man in MCU:

It's appealing, but in the end I could see it being even WORSE for Sony, because despite all of it Sony still owns the rights and has creative control over Spider-Man when it comes to the movies.  Having him in the MCU will just make more people long for what could be.

I have confidence that with Kevin Feige at the helm of Spider-man, it will come out halfway decent. No worse than the first ASM in the absolute worst case. The real problem is that Sony is 100% in control of the films that branch off of Spiderman: Sinister Six, Venom, Black Cat, and many more. Those movies will have the Spider-man from the MCU in them, and Sony can flop them just as badly as they did ASM 2, or do as well as they did with SM2.
