Apparently a lot of people didn't know. I've seen speculation that Fiege would have known; as producer of the films there's insurance considerations on actors so his medical records would have been known by a few, and they obviously kept it close.

43 is ultimately no age at all, and for a lot of the community it's a loss that will be felt quite deeply.

Is it me or does this new Spider-Man movie sound like it's going to be completely awful? Three Spider-Men, Molina Doc Oc, Electro, Venom, rumors of three goblins, Chameleon, Scorpion...That crap all seems exciting in isolation but if the rumors are true then this movie is going to be so bloated there won't be any room left for a damn plot.

I did see a tweet a couple weeks back with Malcolm from Jurassic park but captioned with "you do plan to have spider-man in your spider-man film right?"
Now, eventually you do plan to have dinosaurs on your dinosaur park, right? - GIF on Imgur

On one hand I'm quite excited - Molina as Doc Ock was great. But yes on the other hand I'm flashing back to Venom and Sandman and Green Goblin in Spider-man 3.

But on the other hand we have recently had Spider-verse with 7 Spider-men/girl/pigs in and Infinity War/Endgame with a bunch of heroes in it too and those were great. So it is doable. It's entirely possible they're just there for a few instances. Last film had JK Simmons in but only for a couple minutes tops.

I also have counted and I appear to have at least three hands. I am this guy

Yeah, very enjoyable.

Spoiler

So we reckoning, given they're not showing the other variant except in silhouette, that it might be Lady Loki?

Also I very much enjoy that infinity stones, the gems or massive importance and power for the last few films, are treat like paperweights to the TVA.

Someone had pointed out given how things shake out for a "sacred timeline" of proper events then the TVA have potentially "reset"/"purged" 14million variants of the Avengers.

Spoiler

I have no idea who Lady Loki is, but given that they keep showing press shots of Tom and Sophia Di Martino I'd say it is a safe bet that it is Lady Loki and she is playing her.

I enjoyed the Kafkaesque bureaucracy hell, and that the "formidable" TVA is just so mundane.

I wonder if Mobius' irreverence suggests dissatisfaction with the Time Keepers?

How we enjoying What If so far?

For me it's one of those shows where having weird spread of ideas does mean the quality is a little bit all over the place based on what the "what if" is. The last two weeks have had rather dour endings too.

The "What if Black Panther became Starlord" one (second episode) is so far I think one of the highlights.

I am noticing that the tentacle beasty carries on showing up but also...some more thoughts to follow in my next section.

I watched Shang-Chi the other day. Very enjoyable. In the same way they've done "war movie" and "spy thriller" and other genre mish-mashes this is basically a kung fu movie and really aside from a few aspects doesn't touch too much on the MCU. If you're a fan of jackie-chan type stuff or crouching tiger (and there's actor overlap) then it's a fun watch. Was also my first cinema outing for nearly 2 years. Aside from a bit of a weird operation involved in buying a drink it wasn't too bad (I already used to buy my seatss online so the QR stuff wasn't new to me)

Spoiler

The big bad at the end isn't really named and I don't think is officially an existing charterer but is modeled quite "great old one" style, much as the tentacle beasty. So it seems they might be set up for one of the major big bads in upcoming phases. And the next Strange is "Multiverse of Madness" which is very lovecraftian title.

I like What if..? Agree that quality is up and down.

Black Panther and Dr Strange were my faves so far.

Captain America was good.

Zombies and Episode 3 were the weakest.

I think it pretty clearly delineates along: Episodes that explore a single character's personality = top tier, episodes that try to include lots of characters and are driven by fight scenes = lower tier.

Captain America is in the middle as it does a bit of both. :) I was never a fan of the "Marvel Zombies" thing anyway tbh, the idea that they are "zombified" but still able to use their super-faculties and intellect just doesn't wash.

tbf the comic run was kind of neat in especially with

Spoiler

the time loop aspect of it

and sort of a neat aspect in being heroes, and being conscious enough to know what they're doing is wrong but still driven by "the hunger". (which was toned down a bit for the What If in just being intelligent enough to still use powers and battle plans).

Also I like you didn't even define the plot of Episode 3 it's that bad. It just gets called "episode 3". I did hear that subtitling/dubbing ruined the reveal though. Did potentially confirm one fan theory for Endgame was possible though.

Oh Paul Rudd in Zombies was a real standout - I imagine most was his own improv (especially given the school of films he comes from).

One aspect I didn't like in Doctor Strange was

Spoiler

The Ancient One visiting him though a "splinter" of reality and being able to posthumously astral project and be powerful enough to split a person into two time streams.
Like it was needed to push the plot along but kinda negates her death a bit if she can just pop up wherever and whenever and still do whacky magic. (though negativing death is a comics specialty so I should be used to it)

Though I really did like (and I think many others)

Spoiler

the slow and eventual awareness of The Watcher. And the watcher starting to slowly appear more and more and even mull on intervening or arguing why he shouldn't - which is obviously leading to what we know Uata does way too much of: intervening :P

Haha, yeah it's hard to sum up Episode 3 without spoilers, but it sucked.

Agree with the criticism of Strange. It was a bit deus ex machina, but as you say, par for the course in comics-land.

I enjoyed bits of Zombies (lol), it's just that overall the episode (as with Ep3), was just a bunch of set-pieces.

This is going to be an interesting film to see where they'll take it given the IRL death of Chadwick Boseman. Cool to have Namor in, though not a massive surprise. Was sort of alluded to in Endgame and Namor and Wakanda have been at odds in the comic. Though given Namor is sort of on the "hero" side, just a prick about it, wonder if they'll have him come in as an enemy then change of heart of maybe a bigger evil comes along, or what not.

Looking a lot better for this second trailer. Curious how much of Hulk they'll have in. I imagine not cheap (plus would be a bit distracting). Kind of hoping to have like actual law side of things, especially as it'll also have Matt Murdock in. No point having two lawyer superheroes in and do nothing with that.

And here's your Phase Five and Phase Six (though I imagine that it'll have more films/TV to add into Phase 6).

I'm surprised by the lack of a Young Avengers. Thunderbolts* has clearly had bits dropped in here and there, but so has Young Avengers - my only thinking being to make Young Avengers one of their TV shows. Which would allow it to flesh out a bit. Can even tie in some of the comic bits given we have a new Vision in play (he's the one that launches Young Avengers in comics), though not sure how to get Billy and Tommy in or that'd nullify the point of Dr Strange:MoM. Otherwise we have Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Ms Marvel (maybe), Patriot (just the alter ego so far - he's the grandson in FaWS), Kid Loki, America Chavez, and possibly Iron Lad (a version of Kang - so could pop up).

*Not sure how they'll deal with William Hurt dying. Kind of need Thunderbolt Ross for the name of the film/group but not sure if they'll replace him (was kind of only minor-ish), or make it a group in honour of his name?

btw if you have been sleeping on MCU stuff of late (I know a lot of folks with burnout) I strongly recommend Ms Marvel - very fun. Plus an interesting sound clip in the finale...
