You must feel like a right plonker for a lot of these :P (But then you look at the cheque :P)

Had seen the bit at the end with Winter Soldier earlier today and yeah that's..yeah. I'd love to see the thinking on the planning for that "So we gonna use a crane? put a camera on a wire? what's the plan?" "Why don't we just strap a camera guy to a zip wire n have him jump out a building?"

So I finally put my finger on what I didn't like about Civil War (which is not to say I didn't like it):

They made such a big thing of it being a civil war among the super heroes and then there's just one fight and it's back to Cap v IM. And the one fight seemed super contrived.

New ranking:

1. Either Winter Soldier or Avengers

2. See 1.

3. Captain America

4. Thor: Dark World

5. Civil War

6. Guardians of the Galaxy

7. Age of Ultron

8. Iron Man

9. Thor

10. Iron Man 3

11. Ant-Man

12. Iron Man 2

13. Hulk

The first two are solid, 3-6 I'm iffy on the order but confident they'd be ahead of the rest, same with 7-8, and same with 9-12.  Maybe tiers would be a better division...

-Tier 1-

Avengers

Winter Soldier

-Tier 2-

Captain America

Thor: Dark World

Guardians of the Galaxy

Civil War

-Tier 3-

Iron Man

Age of Ultron

-Tier 4-

Iron Man 2

Thor

Iron Man 3

Ant-Man

-Tier Suck-

Hulk

Which Hulk are you referring to, Ethan? Hulk or The Incredible Hulk?

I ask because Hulk from 2003 isn't part of the MCU and is vomit poured into thrift store purple pants.

The Incredible Hulk is alright. I'll have to review my MCU movie ranking after Civil War, which will be next week.

There was a bit in watching the Beyond trailer and I'm like "Is Karl Urban in the MCU? He'd be great in the MCU".

Anywho turns out he's gonna be in Thor Ragnarok, alongside Jeff Goldblum (who'll be playing "Grandmaster", one of the counterparts of Del Toro's "Collector").

http://marvel.com/news/movies/26203/marvel_studios_confirms_stellar_new_cast_members_of_the_highly_anticipated_thor_ragnarok

I wonder if it bums out the cast of the Thor films that they don't really get to interact with the folks from the Earth-bound films as much.

I think it's a great cast n all, but part of me is this horrible feeling a chunk of this is going to be setting up the Infinity War films more than any other film preceding it. Like a big issue with Age of Ultron was the weird Infinity Well sequence, and that was all setting up for Thor Ragnarok. Having another Elder of the Universe in even further cements that we're gonna have a infinity gem show up. I guess as they steam roll towards the culmination of the Avengers films you've got horrible balance of trying to have films be pretty standalone while still advancing the overarching plot and essentially advertising the future films. GotG was probably their best effort at this so far.

A couple of random thoughts while watching some Agent Carter with some potential Civil War spoilers.

So, what actually happened to real Jarvis? I'd assumed he'd died with Howard Stark but Civil War showed that wasn't the case.

Also, I was wondering in what way Peggy is an aunt to Sharon. I know Peggy had a brother but I thought he died with no next of kin (although, I have a vague recollection that maybe she had a few brothers even though it only ever showed one in flashbacks). Unless it's like those informal "aunts" you get.

These questions are probably covered or answered somewhere online but I figured I'd share them here.

p.s. Jarvis is the best thing in Agent Carter. Besides Agent Carter, obviously.

From Comic Con we so far have:

Luke Cage:

Iron Fist:

and a Defenders teaser:

No Thor Ragnarok or Doctor Strange yet though. But there's more days I guess and this is all explicitly Netflix stuff.

Oh yeah a Ghost Rider teaser for Agents of Shield (I need to wrap up series 3):

I guess this ruins my "explicitly Netflix stuff" theory.

Shaping up nicely.

Apparently, there's a pretty funny Thor skit done by the Ragnarok director (who was also a writer, director and star of What We Do in the Shadows) that "explains" why he missed Civil War and it involves moving into an apartment with a guy called Daryl.

And Brie Larson confirmed as Captain Marvel. Nice!

Personally this struck me as more a "Film Theory" thing since it's more about temp music at its core, mainly using Marvel as an example since it's such a hugely popular franchise. It also avoids that most of them were humming theme tunes and he covered incidental background music. There is actually an avengers theme and it's re-mixed into a chunk of the films

see

It's just not very iconic really. (also everyone messed up with not singing AC/DC or any of the numerous tracks in GotG)

That theme just blends with the temp music. Imagine a Marvel franchise where each hero had a memorable theme and it could be mix together for say when they work together. Shame that these movies just don't have anything memorable so that you can hear that tune and just instantly imagine the movie or characters.

Yeah, I debated with myself whether to post in Film Theory or here, but because it focuses on Marvel, and might foster discussion of Marvel music, I put it here. I have no problems if you want to move it, not that you need my permission. :)

I agree with Mal 100%; I think it would have been really interesting and potentially very effective if each of the main characters had their own themes running through whatever movies they're in, like Star Wars. Maybe Disney could have hired one person or unified team to score all the movies ( like a franchise musical director), since it seems like the directors of each film did not put too much thought into the scores anyway (although I am certain the people who actually scored the movies did put a lot of thought into it). Then the team-up movies' scores could have played with combining elements of their characters' themes.

It's also interesting that the video ignored the most effective uses of music in any of the Marvel movies: the licensed music in GotG and Iron Man.
