I get to see this film in 4 hours. Hyped.

bwahaha. I imagine that an accompanying music video to this is likely one of the 5 post-credit scenes.

Lyrics (Well part of):

That weird thing by his side an infantilized sequoia

The two of them walk by, people say "Oh boy-a"

They ask me why I'm bringin'
A baby into battle

"Thats really irresponsible"
And getting them rattled

I say "Give me a break
Get off my back dammit"

I didn't learn parenting
My daddy was a planet

I get to see this film in 4 hours. Hyped.

Also gonna put a general stab in the dark here as a "guess the plot":

Also gonna put a general stab in the dark here as a "guess the plot":

Ego dies or something like that. The Cat Stevens song in the playlist just isn't as hopeful a song as you'd want.

And Thanos is a biggy for the non-presser stinger.

So results of my "stab in the dark guess the plot" bit

Kinda got it right, but the Cat Stevens song wasn't for Ego.

No Thanos whatsoever but he's mentioned a few times.

Anywho

So Stan Lee is "Watcher Informant". Which puts to rest the whole "he's Uata" theory. Nice little in-universe explanation for this one guy seemingly being around for all these events.

Loved Howard the Duck popping up, the little shot of the trinket Yondu got from the Broker.

So if you come out and are like "so who is that guy, n who are they meant to be" n so on

So the big finale stinger is Adam Warlock, who I'd hope you guys know of mainly from the whole "there's Adams coccoon in the Collectors museum". He's kinda important to Infinity War and the Guardians (he's also got an evil future self called Magus)

Stallone and his gang are the original 31st Century Guardians from the '70s line.

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-originals-Marvel

(Of which Yondu was also a member of)

The large bald headed dudes Stan Lee is hanging out with are Watchers. They watch important events. It's long been fan theory that Stan Lees cameos are as a Watcher. This kinda leans into that while not having it the case.

David Hasslehoff is a famous German actor and singer.

Villain-wise

I think they set it up quite well. Mantis reaction with Drax sets up that something is up and it's not just the Soveriegn (who are kinda set up as quite ineffective) as the baddies. Ego is talking through his "greater purpose" and you can kinda get on board with it a bit, understanding his view point even though it means everyone else kinda dies. But fuck, that line of "it broke my heart to put that tumour in her head" instantly makes you turn on him. And instantly makes Quill turn on him too.

The end was actually all quite a general downer I feel. Quills bio-dad is a bit of a cock and they have to kill him, and then Yondu goes n sacrifices himself for Quill.

Also a thought

So he err never gets to finish his lines on how he controls the arrow, and I think you're meant to think he's gonna say "heart" but I'm pretty sure he's trying to say he controls his arrow with his penis

I'll post more things when I've an opportunity to bounce of you guys.

Tentative new ranking:

-Tier 1-
Avengers
Captain America: Winter Soldier

-Tier 2-
Captain America
Captain America: Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
Thor: Dark World

-Tier 3-
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Iron Man

-Tier 4-
Ant-Man
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3
Thor

-Tier 5-
Incredible Hulk

I also reordered the movies within each tier to be in alphabetical order, because the whole point of the tiers is that I can't decide how to rank them within each one.

Been a while since I've done a ranking, I think. Let's see...

1. The Avengers

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

3. Captain America: Civil War

4. Avengers: Age of Ultron

5. Guardians of the Galaxy

6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

7. Iron Man

8. Thor: The Dark World

9. Doctor Strange

10. Thor

11. Iron Man 3

12. Captain America: The First Avenger

13. Ant-Man

14. Iron Man 2

Still (and probably will forever remain) unseen: The Incredible Hulk.

I like TME's ranking, with a few minor changes.

I use the dark theme so I've no idea what @TheMightyEthan or @therevanchist* have put for their list but I'll just assume they're both wrong.

I don't think I'd be able to put them in a list (and pretty sure I haven't). A big issue for me would be comparing Doctor Strange with like Captain America films. They're just so different. At least all the Star Wars films are all pretty tonally similar (except Rogue One) so pretty easy to compare em. I'd only rank the individual trilogies (which tbh does mean that Incredible Hulk is both the best and worst of the Hulk films, at least until Ragnarok comes out).

I will say I think I'd put Iron Man higher than most of you guys, having watched it a few weeks ago it stands up extremely well given it didn't have any predecessors to work off and it's nearly a decade old at this point (RDJ has spent nearly a fifth of his life doing Marvel films. Though I guess technically the same could soon be said for Tom Holland :P). Out of all of them it's probably also the most standalone. The latter films make the (pretty reasonable) assumption you've seen most of the others.

*huh, guess you can only use that once per post, or it's just crashed for now.

Shit, forgot to add Doctor Strange.  I think that's a Tier 3 movie.  Also, I'm gonna rename the tiers since I feel like this makes some of them seem like I think they're worse than I do.

-S Rank-
Avengers
Captain America: Winter Soldier

-A Rank-
Captain America
Captain America: Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy
Thor: Dark World

-B Rank-
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Doctor Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Iron Man

-C Rank-
Ant-Man
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3
Thor

-D Rank-
Incredible Hulk

Also, @deanbmmv, did I fix the color issue? (There was some formatting from the post I copied it from that I didn't remove before).

Yeah, I think I liked it more on repeat viewings whereas some don't hold up as well. However, while I do like it, I can't say I enjoy it more than the Avengers, Guardians or latter Cap films.

That thumbnail puts his nipples in a very very weird place.

Other than that it's looking good, and cool to see Bilbo and Gollum reuniting. Though "what do you know about Wakanda" isn't a very good riddle.

I'll be honest aside from their vibranium deposits and the fact that licensing agreements mean that Black Panther is going to go unwed (he marries Storm, now with 20th Fox) I know little about Black Panther so that's kinda cool.

So word is (from ScarJo) at least one scene in Infinity War has 30 characters (and the "60 in the film" re-iterated). So I figured, what with it being over a year and three films since, that I'd make an update to the "potential folks in Infinity War" list:

Avengers (New & Mighty)

  1. Iron Man
  2. Captain America
  3. Thor
  4. Hulk
  5. Black Widow
  6. Hawkeye
  7. Scarlet Witch
  8. Vision Falcon
  9. War Machine
  10. Ant-Man
  11. Spider-Man

Earth(ish) Non-Avengers

  1. Black Panther
  2. Doctor Strange
  3. Wong
  4. Winter Soldier
  5. Captain Marvel
  6. Hiemdall
  7. Valkyrie
  8. Loki
  9. Nick Fury
  10. Phil Coulson
  11. Quake
  12. Collector
  13. Grandmaster

Defenders

  1. Daredevil
  2. Jessica Jones
  3. Luke Cage
  4. Iron Fist
  5. Punisher

Guardians of the Galaxy

  1. Starlord
  2. Gamora
  3. Rocket Raccoon
  4. Groot
  5. Drax
  6. Mantis
  7. Nebula
  8. Kraglin

Guardians of the Galaxy 3000

  1. Stakar
  2. Martinex
  3. Charlie 27
  4. Aleta
  5. Mainframe
  6. Krugarr

InHumans

  1. Blackbolt
  2. Medusa

Do people think Coulson will return from his exile to TV for Infinity War? I also recall that it's been confirmed that none of the Defenders will appear in IW. I'd be very surprised if the Inhumans show up, too.

Edit:

This trailer for the Inhumans dropped:

Yup, looks like hot garbage, as expected. Black Bolt and Medusa look awful.  Iwan Rheon is woefully miscast as Maximus, which is sad because Rheon is such a wonderful character actor. The production design is boring. The Inhumans are shitty and have always been shitty and this show was doomed to fail.

I wonder if Disney will even attempt to pretend this shares a universe with the movies and other shows.

I was gonna post the trailer and notice GOH had. You know if there's a gap of 10 days from your last post you're totally allowed to double post :P Kinda useful in this case since it's not like edits bring the post back up to unread.

But yes it looks kinda wank and Iwan is really wasted on it.

So, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, there's an "8 Years Later" title that comes up when it switches from a scene of people cleaning up debris post-Chitauri invasion of New York to present day, i.e. it's saying Spider-Man: Homecoming is set 8 years after the first Avengers film.

But the first Avengers film was 2012, and the later Marvel films tend to be set when they're released.

Plus, Spider-Man: Homecoming is definitely set in 2017 because they make reference to a character being 33 while his rap sheet is on-screen showing an April '84 birth date.

My understanding is the MCU launched in 2008 with Iron Man. Iron Man 2 / (the end of) Captain America / Thor all took place around the same time (remember Coulson leaves Iron Man 2 to go to the Thor movie), so that could put Avengers in 2009/2010 or so.

Anyways, I think there might be too many Marvel films for me to rank now. We'll see. But suffice to say, I really really liked Homecoming. It's one of the best solo Marvel debut films (better than Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and maybe Ant-Man).
