TheFlyingGerbil
We need a thread for one of the world's most successful franchises. I'll start it off with a video for the new Wii U game: It's a pretty comprehensive overview of the game showing a lot of features I hadn't seen explained before. FMW
Cat toad justifies toad existing. Also the adorable little high fives Luigi and Toad do when they solve a puzzle together in Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon.
TheMightyEthan
It looks pretty great. Not $60 worth of great though. Maybe $40.
FMW
I don't think we actually do need a Mario Bros. thread. Mario is going to keep being super good at what he does, and what he does is going to keep on being not terribly discussion worthy. 3D Super Mario will keep on having inventive wonderful level design for Mario to jump through. 2D Super Mario will keep having conservative, nostalgic level design and an easy difficulty level aimed more at people who aren't dedicated gamers. Mario Sports will keep being really fun in local multiplayer, but will never compete with contemporary simulation sports offerings in terms of content, mode selection, or number crunching depth. Mario Party will keep being fun for the millions who like Mario Party (and there are millions who like Mario Party - these games don't keep selling by accident), but will never extend an olive branch to those who want their local multiplayer to be "fair" or skill based in any way. Mario Kart will continue to be the highest selling racing franchise in video games, and it will continue to include rubber banding item drops to reward poor performance on the track. Mario RPGs... well those I'm a little bit more worried about. Paper Mario has been on decline since Paper Mario 2 and Mario and Luigi 4 isn't as good as Mario and Luigi 3. BUT: Neither Mario RPG franchise has yet to release a game that was more bad than good. They continue to be funnier, better paced, and less married to the past than most of their JRPG brethren. These are some of my very favorite Mario games so I'm really hoping for a big Mario RPG bounce back in these next few years. Each Mario franchise has a mission. They all want to be accessible. They all want to make the player smile. Some do this by being funny, some do this by reminding the player of their childhood with Mario, and the 3D platformers do so just by having level design that forces happiness out of the player through some alchemy not yet known to the rest of the human race. None of the Mario games have the mission of blowing enthusiast gamers' minds. They won't push technology, they won't invent new genres, they won't surprise narratively or structurally. They will instead be polished, bug free, accessible, and brightly colored. They trade qualities that gamers value for qualities that (they hope) a wider audience will value. Strangelove
3D World is going to be great if 3D Land is any indication. I will say I kind of hate the focus towards multiplayer in recent Mario platformers. I wonder if we'll ever get a new main Mario singleplayer game. And as much as I like/love Mario games, Ive actually never played a Mario rpg game aside from the first DS one. It was...ok. I just cant play an rpg if the story isnt interesting and that rpg barely had any story going for it.

Having finished the main 'Story' levels of SM3DW, I can confirm that it was just as enjoyable (if not more so), than its 3DS counterpart. I think you'll be pretty pleased with how they handle the multiplayer aspects of the game too. Whilst you can play it with friends, i wouldn't advise it, certainly not more than 1 person anyway. The GiantBomb Quick look, whilst fun looked incredibly frustrating.
