TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I get solid 4G at home so half the time I don't even notice the WiFi has disconnected for a while.
deanb
I'm fine, only time I disconnect is when I go into the kitchen/utility room but that's cos it's way at the back of the house and router doesn't stretch that far (there's also nowhere to plug-in an extender as it's all work-top plug-ins, including two next to cooker). Recent Android versions did change how it connects to Wi-Fi though, I'm not sure off the top of the head what the change was but I know it sort of makes wi-fi a permanent-ish thing even if you turn it "off". I think mainly for the location data.
TheFlyingGerbil
They've said I can get a partial refund (only about ten quid) or send it back which I'm not sure I can be bothered sorting out as I really don't want to have to work out another phone to get. I'll probably just keep it and have a permanent knot of annoyance in my stomach every time i think about it or use it until i get a new one in a year or so. I've only just had a massive hassle to get a refund on a different faulty phone i got for Christmas. I'm so done.
TheFlyingGerbil
Anyone know now what this symbol means on my media folder? It's not installing anything, which is the only thing I know of that looks similar. Edit. Hmmm it's looked like that all day, and now just after I post its gone to two thirds from half way so it must be doing something, don't know what, nor why so slowly though. Mister Jack
Isn't that what it looks like when an app is updating?
TheFlyingGerbil
EIt was half way all day yesterday and didn't move, so looks like a contrast symbol. Then just after I posted that it went to two thirds so I knew it was updating, but nothing in there is updating according to the App Store, and it is still like that now nearly twelve ours later. Restarting it yesterday didn't fix it, but has today. I guess problem solved, or feature discovered as Apple would have me believe. Eleven
The symbol just means it's updating an app. Sometimes apps get stuck updating for some reason. I wonder if it's due to low disk space? Had that happen to me recently when I was running low. I usually just delete and re-download. You could also try plugging in to a PC/Mac running iTunes and download the app from there, then sync it. TheFlyingGerbil
I've not got iTunes and don't plan to. Did have a few issues with space, for some reason my tumblr app was taking up over 3gb of space, and another one a similar amount, but I sorted that a while ago. Just surprised I have quite so many problems on my iPad. It's better than android but far from the utopia they want you to believe.
TheFlyingGerbil
Has anyone tried a liquid screen protector? I've never had much/any luck with the stick-on type but the liquid sounds too good to be true. Mal
I have not heard of such a thing until your post. I'm intrigued since I hate the sticky screen protectors. I might give it a shot on my old Note 4 (I use it as a tablet in bed or around the house or anywhere that has WiFi) to see how well it works. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I've never heard of them either and I'm skeptical.

Mal
On Friday I got chewed out for not responding to work related texts. The thing is I did. My supervisor and I exchanged screenshots of our text in a group chat. Completely different sequence of texts which made for a really confusing conversation. Add in some missing texts and it appears that I wasn't replying. Things got cleared up but fuck am I still pissed. Besides restarting my phone daily and typing a timestamp in some of my texts, how else can I best defend myself from this situation? I personally think it is my phone (Note 3) and carrier (Cricket) but there's so many variables that it's hard to commit to a plan of action. danielpholt
Are you guys communicating via SMS or something more...modern like Telegram, Whatsapp or Slack?
deanb
It's also entirely possible it's on their end (and not to be paranoid but it's much easier for them to delete texts than for you to randomly inject texts into your app). Also imo: If they're expecting you to use a phone for work...then you shouldn't be in the position of worrying about what your phone may or may not be doing, the onus should be on them supplying you with a phone or using something a tad more professional like email. Mal
SMS We do do email, hell I did so today after a group text with a picture failed to go through but email is typically reserved for less urgent things. I am out in the field finding fossils during active construction excavations. SMS is typically faster. I personally think it's on my end with group chat and with photos. Email goes through flawlessly but SMS just chugs and fails to go through. Plain texting with one person is snappy though. Also if I want, I could request a work phone since it's an optional part of my employment.
TheFlyingGerbil
there should be a setting in your phone to swap from sending group messages as one MMS message to multiple SMS messages. That may sort your problem as it will send as a standard text to each person, especially as you say you struggle with pictures which also use MMS so it could be MMS that's the problem. Another way to try and sort that is to turn off wifi as I know my mum has to turn that off to use MMS as the phone tries to use wifi which her network won't let her use to send/receive MMS data. TheMightyEthan
If you do that though it breaks up the group message and makes it a bunch of separate messages, which is awful to try to sort out. There is a special level of hell reserved for people who send group texts as separate SMS's.
