AgamemnonV2
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/06/elderer-skyrim-for-pc-detailed-by-bethesda/ Nothing really new revealed. I don't know if it's just RPS or what, but who the hell thinks the UI is any better than Oblivion? Christ, it still looks terrible. Although that might just have to do with RPS's quality of writing anyway. I mean, seriously. Do they proofread their stuff before publishing?
Enervation
Where's the UI? Is it in the article? I can't seem to find it. Edited July 10, 2011 by Enervation
AgamemnonV2
Also, downvote me all you want, but RPS's quality of writing IS shit.
Saturnine Tenshi
Yeah, that's bad. What happened to KISS? As for RPS: eh. Journalism is, in most cases, a humdrum thing. RPS does well in slaking that, and I appreciate it. Let 'em write how they wish.
Mr W Phallus
When you say it looks terrible do you mean aesthetically terrible or just in terms of practicality and usage it looks terrible? Because while I can see reasons you might fault it on the latter I'm struggling to see how you can say it's not nice to look at.
Saturnine Tenshi
I was assuming he meant practicality. It's not intuitive at all. Why not just look at a list, instead of scrolling left and right through these things? Being on consoles doesn't even explain the decision, as you could still order them vertically. But I guess Bethesda is known for refractory interfaces.

I don't know if it's still in development but those stat bars just look incredibly out of place for what must be the skills tab. And then the skills tab is some scroll-y looking thing. Everything the community has been doing with Bethesda games is ensuring there's as much information in as little space as possible and yet they seem to not be getting the hint. Will their next game have entire full-screen info-graphics on one specific skill with lore back story to them too? As for RPS's news, yeah. They're spot-on about reporting on great stuff. I just don't think it would hurt to hit the spell check button before you click "Publish" though. RockyRan
So long as the community can mod the UI however the hell it wants, I really don't care what the vanilla interface looks like.

I agree that the scrolling thing is pointless, though I do quite like the constellation idea, I've no idea why they didn't just put all the constellations on one screen. AgamemnonV2
So long as the community can mod the UI however the hell it wants, I really don't care what the vanilla interface looks like. How exactly is a developer supposed to improve on common mistakes if the answer to every problem is, "Don't worry, our community will fix it"? RockyRan
I'm speaking at it from a consumer's point of view. As a consumer, I get to dictate whatever I want in my Skyrim, including (hopefully), the UI. Should Bethesda fuck up yet again and make yet another shitty UI, I'll still be mildly annoyed at the fact that they can't apparently take a hint, but at the end of the day my experience of the game will not (I hope) be hindered by this. Based on Bethesda's comments I doubt they'll give the PC UI any real thought, and yes it will most likely be consolized (they've already said it's primarily a console game anyhow). Complaining on internet forums isn't exactly going to change their minds, and it's not like we have to settle for the UI (again...hopefully) anyway. EDIT: But in the case that the UI is shitty AND it's not possible to change for whatever reason, I'll be first in line to bitch about it. deanb
http://www.neogaf.co...ad.php?t=440665 Dang it's looking much better than Oblivion. MasterDex
Definitely looks better...that said, they all still have a touch of the fuglies to some degree.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I will reiterate my point is that people in a world like that should commonly be ugly, just like in real life. Look at the blonde woman. She looks great. The created characters look as ugly as they were intended to look, hands down. That's what matters. Enervation
I dunno. The Dark Elf looks ugly to me. Orcs always look ugly to me as well. Also, that chart appears to be missing High Elves.
P4: Gritty Reboot
The problem is they've got head closeups compared to far off, dynamically lit action shots. I don't doubt they'll be much improved, but shots from the same angles would be nice.

Mal
That dark elf action shot has him look with a bit of... exaggerated East Asian face. If only if I could find that pic. And yeah, DIE YOU DAMN ORCS.
Luftwaffles
It'll be interesting if Bethesda can get the facial animations right while in conversation or prevent the game from having 20 or 30 "stock" NPCs that reappear subtly different throughout the game (i.e. Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion). It'll be bizarre playing a TOS or Fallout game with good facial animations.

I still shake my head every time I'm in third person and side-step and move forward at the same time. It's like my character is skating across the Mojave. That and the "I'm frozen in a Matrix-jumping-pose" bit.

I still remember the first time I saw this and went to a forum to ask if there were any mods that made the character actually face the direction he was running. The response? "Just don't strafe and move forward at the same time, dude. Who does that?" Indeed. Perfect solution.
