  1. 1. Who is buying?

    • Definitely
    • When the GOTY is out
    • Depends if it's on sale
    • Maybe one day
    • Probably not.
  2. 2. What version?

I'm partially glad it's a port. I don't upgrade my rig on a constant-enough basis so I think it's great if consoles can "dumb" down the requirements enough that so that even my ol' rig can run it. Probably sounds dumb, but it works for me.

Controls and UI, on the other hand, better not be like a port. Knowing Bethesda, they'll probably do fine on the PC control scheme, but you never know...

And yet GTA 4 managed to fuck it up BAD.

Pirandello: I mostly agree. Or, well, I don't care that a particular game is a port or not, as long as it runs well... But I'm glad the hardware cycle isn't going at light speed right now. I wouldn't be able to afford keeping up with it.

Exactly my sentiments. I don't care if it's a port so long as it's clear some modicum of effort has been made in the porting process.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad consoles have been dragging down the technical requirements of games; it means I don't have to upgrade my PC as often.

The way I've rolled over the last two console generations, and I think it's worked out well, is that when the generation first launches I get one of the consoles and play my multiplats on there for a while. Then, about halfway through the console's lifecycle, when the PCs capable of playing the same games have dropped in price, I upgrade my PC and switch to primarily playing games on it.

I'm so playing this game in third person

Does anyone know if there are going to be more armor options than there were in Oblivion?

I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't, but at least they look cooler this time. Though from what I understand, there is a special Dragon armorset, so at the very least, that's +1 armor option than there was in Oblivion.

Someone took the G4 video, re-cut, and then removed the crap commentery in favour of "epic music".

Beware it's hugely spoilerific.

Or you could have this for non-alan wake music http://tubedubber.co...Yg8:0:100:0:0:1 (Slight problem of not lasting as long)

Is that a child on 4:20? Oh man, decapitating children. Can't wait.

My biggest gripe about the armor wasn't the lack of options, it was the lack of options per "level" of armor. Beginner of light armor always wore leather and worked their way up to elvish and blah blah blah. Everybody ended up looking the same when they maxed out.

From what I've gathered they've massively overhauled the levelling system, so I think with this you're not going to end up with set armour for certain levels.

I hope so! After rolling two characters, one light armor and one heavy armor, I had already knew what to expect from then on. I love RPGs when you find new armor and are like "well this is slightly better at X but worse at Y, what do I specialize in and how does this help me" Oblivion didn't have that factor, and I don't blame them, considering the size, but it was something I hope they fix in Skyrim

Yeah I'm gonna go with the fact that Todd Howard has generally refrained from ever touching upon the first half an hour other than to say "yeah that's the beginning of the game", and the fact that since we're talking Kotaku here it's most likely a major spoiler for the game so yeah let's not touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Does anyone know if Skyrim (On PC) is a Steamworks game? As in, is there any point to not buying it on Steam? Will the retail version install it into steam or can it be independent from it?

The reason I ask is for modding reasons. Although it was possible to mod the Steam version of Oblivion, there was usually extra steps involved for some mods. I'd like to avoid that if I can.

Yeah it's a Steamworks title. And yes there's a point of not buying it on Steam: It's fucking expensive on Steam.

The main issue will be the same as Oblivion. While 99% of mods will work fine (since the game is made to be modded). However because on Steam the exe is in steams wrapper OBSE and/or Wyre Bash won't work. But when you're messing with those you're usually pretty far down the rabbit hole with modding.

Could always crack it.
