Saturnine Tenshi
Everyone I know has loved skyrim and ive hesitated to ask, but I might as well. For someone who hated Oblivion, yet loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas, how does this stack up? I also loved Dragon Age, so im not completely opposed to fantasy. I wasn't fond of any of those titles — especially Oblivion. After spending the last two weeks with it wrapped around my loins, I would say Skyrim is worthy of just-below-Morrowind status. Especially after today's romp through Blackwater.

I despise Oblivion, felt FO3 was decent and liked New Vegas a lot. I think Skyrim is really quite amazing.
deanb
I'm feeling like one of the few that equally liked them all. (maybe even had one as my GOTY last year)
Waldorf and Statler
Nah. I've loved Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim each on their own and while not on equal levels I don't hate/dislike any of them. Out of all the three, I gotta say Skyrim is the closest to my perfect bethesda game. Morrowind's bullshit combat was too much of a hassle, Oblivion annoyed the fuck out of me since you couldn't take 3 steps without an oblivion gate popping up, and you know. Skyrim has dragons. That's multiplying by infinity.
Eleven
Bethesda is my favorite developer of all time, 2nd is Bioware, even though most people would say Bioware has more quality products. It's just that I likelove this formula they're doing with the elder scrolls... When I heard they got Fallout and were giving it the same treatment, unlike most people, I was overjoyed! Their games aren't perfect but I love them all the same! Edited November 23, 2011 by elev3n
CorgiShinobi
So was there an update yesterday? As I was reading up on how to fix the launching problem (I mentioned in my status update), there were users saying it was because an update became available. I know there will be a patch next week, but Steam itself was (supposedly) up-to-date and there was no option to update Skyrim. So I verified the game cache and it reacquired a file and everything runs again. Maybe this is why people got in a fit over how Skyrim is a Steam client game? I dunno, but last night I was browsing Amazon and I noticed how the PC version had quite a lot of 1 Star ratings. I thought maybe it would be fanboy rage, but it was a lot of "Steam" and "Console Port" rage. Does Skyrim come off as a console port to you guys? When I looked at the UI, I actually thought it looked and worked better with a mouse. I mean, there's room for it to work with a controller as well, but I don't think that makes it an entire "sell out" to consoles.
Cyber Rat
Sell out? Bethesda has been releasing console ports since Oblivion. That makes this the third game. There's a limit to how long you can sell out until you're sold out. And the UI is horrible for both console and PC, it just comes as more shocking to PC players I guess. deanb
This was on r/skyrim. This is why I don't own a horse. (if it's not firing up childhood memories then you have no soul) It's via a skin mod btw http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=

Not my words mind you, but a bunch of angry online reviews. Something doesn't sit well and the whole thing is out the window and into a burning dumpster 30 stories below. Just wanted some idea as to why people might be in a fit over Steam and what isn't exactly "PC" about Skyrim. @Dean: Don't you dare bring those memories up! CorgiShinobi
Anyway, some other question: Does anyone keep any books they come across? There are some that look really interesting, but I don't take the time to read them during a quest, so I bring them along. The downside is that each book is weighed at 1 and sometimes, if you're coming across valuable items, a few books can make a difference. Right now I'm 1000 away from the house in Whiterun, but I'm a Companion now so I use the dresser in the room with all the other newbies. deanb
I keep the books. It's why I have the Markarth house, 3 book shelves with 4 shelves of 18 book capacity each. All together too instead of spread about. Also most of the books aren't bad gold:weight ratio. Stuff like history of empire are a measly 3:1, but you've got a fair few are 50:1. TheMightyEthan
I like that I'm not the only one who figures up gold/weight ratios when looting. I don't keep the books, there's far too much for me to do in the game besides sitting around reading. I check them once to see if they give me a skill or something and then put them down, unless they're a high gold/weight ratio in which case I sell them. I even have my phone as a calculator for some of the more complex ratios. (e.g forsworn sword of 13 weight to 76 gold or something) As for books I don't collect them to read, but to get the collections. So all of the Wolf Queen, Real Barnezziah etc. I even have a shelf for all the journals you pick up, but they're only small so fall over :/
Saturnine Tenshi
I own all of the Lusty Argonian Maid. And Thief of Virtue. Those notwithstanding, I just pick up the rarer titles. All my bookshelves are full.
deanb
Dragons, dragons everywhere. Also tenshi pointed out to me that if you put save "name of save" in the console you can name your saves, such as "before character creator" or "before Whiterun" etc.

You call 3:1 decent gold:weight ratio? I never pick up anything below 10:1 unless I'm planning to sell it. And even then, 10:1 is on the LOW end of the scale. We need an emoticon of a bunny swimming in cash, because that's how my character feels. I have probably 60.000 septims worth of STUFF in a "to sell" container in my Whiterun house. deanb
You call 3:1 decent gold:weight ratio? No, I called it "measly". I also have about the same, the problem is I have more loot than people have cash. Meaning in order to sell it I need to start heading out to other towns, by which point the sellers reset in my home town and the cycle begins again. Just not worth the bother so I just sell stuff as n when than doing a serious emptying out. However opening my "sell-able loot" chest does grind my game to a bit of a halt. Saturnine Tenshi
After unlocking the 100,000 septim achievement, I just buy shit now. I just give them money. I could easily steal these things. Spent so much time hoarding gold and visiting every vendor I could find because no-one ever had enough gold. There are those Speechcraft perks, for anyone interested.
Waldorf and Statler
Man I haven't touched this game since Zelda came out. Not to say I love one more than the other, just that as a human I can't physically use the few moments I have for gaming on more than one title... and Zelda is rented from Gamefly so I gotta get done with that asap. Saturnine Tenshi
Can't really censure anyone for playing Zelda. |:< I'll be damned if I don't try, though! Merill cannot stand on her bed in the new house, so sweet rolls end up whereever. Now that I've maxed enchanting, I've begun adding +magicka regen and +archery damage to all my equipment.
