I'm liking everything I hear, except I read somewhere the leveling will be similar to Fallout 3, and they are cutting down on how many skills and whatnot there are from Oblivion, which in that they cut down from Morrowind. -.-

The leveling sounds more like Morrowind in that each skill is leveled based on your actions but Skyrim gets rid of the class set-up seen at the beginning of Morrowind. When they're talking about Fallout 3 they mean the level-scaling of the enemies.

I'm also concerned about the cut down on skills and the mystisim is no longer there but I'd actually prefere a more defined set of skills in a game where you have to level up skills seperatly. IE. why should I have to level a dagger skill when I'm already using swords a lot? Why should acrobatics and athletics be different skills? But this is assuming they're cutting skills intellegently and until I see the list of skills I'll remain skeptical.

Oh, I thought they were doing perks or something like that at the end of each level; I don't mind the scaling at all, that was one of my main beefs with oblivion.

Oh, there are also perks after each level until level 50. I want to see what these perks are.

I dunno if I'll like that or not. It will be taking away the real need to customize your stats and whatnot to really tailor your class IMO. I dunno. It just seems like more and more they are shrinking the games skill set down, I want it to be hard, and take forever.

Maybe the perks won't be that powerful though, just stuff like faster walking and horse riding.

But walking used to be about your stats, and equipment, ahhhhh. T_T

I will just have to wait and see a massive chunk of gameplay. I hold out judgement.

From what I hear, it's actually much more effective to throw a lot of power into one thing than spreading it out even. Like, going from 30-35 in a stat, matters a lot more than going from 10-15 with that same stat. That was the explanation I saw anyways. Also, I'm getting the PC version so I won't have to worry about difficulty if it ends up being unbalanced.

I have much hope for this game. Everything they've put out so far already has me absolutely ecstatic for its release. Much more so since they're essentially using an upgraded Gamebryo engine, which means: MODS.

Also, duel-wielding, my most favorite method of combat in all my RPGs, is finally making a show in ES:V, which makes me damn happy. Also, forging. Finally.

My copy of GI came in today.

This game just leaped in terms of my anticipation. Wow.

It's like they heard the complaints coming from Dragon Age II and aimed to fill that gap.

One worrisome quote to me though:

"one of our goals was, 'what if Apple made a fantasy game?'"

yikes.

The new system is pretty sweet sounding... constellations for skills / magic, look at the ground and it zooms out into your map...

also; Perks. yes. Levels up to 50 at least, if you have a few "main" skills (ie high ranks / concentration in that area) you will level faster. New AI for monsters / creatures you find out and about, they just don't run up and attack you immediately now.

Neat little thing about AI in towns too; they discussed like dropping an item in town, and three scenarios with it-- it can lie there forgotten, a small child will bring it to you asking if you dropped it, two individuals end up fighting over it.

Discussions with NPCs won't result in a zoomed up dialogue with them, camera will be panned back; they will continue doing what they are doing while talking to you, or at least act naturally.

info on sidequests / developments / etc can be heard in the ambient conversations, and automatically logged into your journal

"The result is the newly dubbed Creation Engine and Kit" - this bit is the bit that's kind of funny. Not worrying cos what we've seen of upto now looks good but "newly dubbed", and with various past comments, suggests its the new dubbed...gamebryo engine.

Just obviously removing the stigma of the name. The engine could of been updated to be on par with Cry engine 3 and it'd still have the stigma of the naming. So changing it's name is a good idea.

I'm unsure if they're merely licensing at this point. The company that makes gamebryo has been in tatters the past year. Bethseda had been on the tables for buying them, they might of done.

And depends on how they're licensing it. Like Dunia engine is Cryengine 1 but heavily modified. Same with GldSrc being Quake engine etc.

It's not unheard of. If they've taken the base engine, modified it enough and put in enough little add-ons, it becomes it's own beast.

I guess we'll have to wait a bit for confirmation either way, but I'm not entirely convinced this is a new engine. Fallout 3 was Gamebryo and they carry on citing their work on fallout 3 as helping with work on Skyrim. How if it's a completely different engine?

Judging by how able Bethesda's parent company was in acquiring id Software, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did pick up the Gamebryo developers. It certainly would help facilitate streamlining the engine as they would literally have people who worked on the engine to help them with it, and not to mention that it'll make it their second "killer app" engine, right next to id's Tech 5.
