TheRevanchist
May inquire about the PS3 version? (Maybe I should have bought the 360 version instead. I second guess that with every game.)
TheMightyEthan
Apparently the PS3 version makes dragons fly backward in the PS3 version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaNZHfdCF_0
Waldorf and Statler
I haven't touched the 360 version but I'm assuming it'll be like the PC's patch where I haven't heard much about problems with the new patch. I just wish they would have fixed the remarrying bug.
TheRevanchist
Damn. I'm avoiding that for the time being. Thanks, Ethan!
deanb
Yeah the console versions have wiped defensive enchantments too making you weak as fuck if that's your thing. Side bonus: Because of the err.. apparent quality assurance testing n certification that console patches go through it could be another two weeks until the patch gets patched. There is a reason why despite the fact I like this game I think it's fucking retarded it's got so many "perfect" scores on Metacritic. Enervation
I heard the PC patch broke WASD functionality in menus.
Hot Heart
There is a reason why despite the fact I like this game I think it's fucking retarded it's got so many "perfect" scores on Metacritic. Would you still pick it for GOTY?
Cyber Rat
There is a reason why despite the fact I like this game I think it's fucking retarded it's got so many "perfect" scores on Metacritic. Would you still pick it for GOTY? I'm not sure something having a lower score than other titles should mean it's not GOTY material. If I had to review Skyrim, I'd score it lower than some other games I reviewed and I'd still consider it GOTY over them... If that makes any sense. Hot Heart
Oh, I'm not talking about using Metacritic scores as the arbiter for GOTY or anything like that. I mean, would Dean personally pick such a flawed game, of which he acknowledges the problems, because of what else it offers? Then again, he did pick Fallout: New Vegas last year. deanb
Well you'll notice I'm mainly egging for DX:HR. Considering other games I've played this year, it still beats em out. I just think that Skyrim should have had a more sever grilling with regards to bugs*. For example, it may be just a case of the sites I read but, the first place I saw that mentioned the interface issues was RPS and that was several days after release. *in fact any game. As I had a minor rant with the other day I really think the release now patch later mentality is extremely detrimental to gaming atm. I think studios should pretty much make a game as if they're on the locked down systems of last gen, the assumption that once it's out the door they can't touch it up again. I've seen the state of the PS3 version. If it was a PS2 game they'd be fucked, they couldn't have just patched that shit out, it'd be permanent. Johnny
I think that's probably a big part of why huge games of this type has traditionally been PC-only - they've always had bugs. On PC, you could patch them. On console, you'd be fucked. Besides, there were bugs in the last generation of consoles as well. You just couldn't deal with it when they were discovered post-launch. It's pretty much impossible to release a game of this size without bugs. Hell, I don't think I've played any game without bugs. To be honest, I'm a bit confused that people were disappointed by Skyrim being buggy. Completely disregarding that huge games like these are always bound to have bugs, exactly what did you expect? Bethesda's track record has been less than flawless in this area. Personally, I was positively surprised by only encountering a single game-breaking bug so far.
TheRevanchist
I had a scary minute last night when the PS3 froze on me and none of my controls would work. It only lasted a minute, but that minute had me worrying. I didn't want to have one of those I-lost-my-save-files moments. Funny moment: I got some thing I was supposed to get on a mission that was a pain to do. After I'm done, I am leaving, looking at this object thinking "You know, that looks dangerous." I walked right into it and died.
Saturnine Tenshi
Welp, I'm finished. I can't say I've completed every quest, and there are a handful of caves I didn't visit, but I'm finished. 159 hours. I'm burned out. Turns out I killed the quest NPC for one of the daedric artifacts, so I'm missing Oblivion Walker. No amount of console tinkering could get her to give me the quest. A final look at Merill in her enchanted garb. I went about the Ebony Blade quest and sacrificed Lydia to power the sword. Maybe I should share the sequential screenshots? <: Edited December 1, 2011 by Saturnine Tenshi
deanb
Yes I'm disappointed. Especially with the "well it's Bethesda, what'd you expect!! lolz" type attitude many people and outlets have had too. Run developers through the fucking cleaners.
TheMightyEthan
"Disappointed but not surprised" would I think be a good description. Or would be for, but I haven't encountered any real bugs (but I only have about 21 hours in the game, so...)
Johnny
I can understand critizising it, but being disappointed implies you expected better. That's the part I don't understand.
Saturnine Tenshi
It is Bethesda, and it is what you should expect as a rational person. Assuming you're a rational person. I don't think they should be held in high regard despite their infamous issues with buggy releases. There is absolutely no excuse for a game so rife with bugs to receive a "10/10" from any outlet. But to expect otherwise is just silly. Edit: Looks like I was beaten to it. STOP HOUNDING THIS THREAD! TheMightyEthan
"Disappointed" because one hoped for better, "not surprised" because one did not expect better.
Waldorf and Statler
Games these days tend to be, while not always, graded in a comparative scale. The way I justify it is. "Here's the Elder Scrolls. Man all these bugs are really fucking up the game don't know if I should give it a perfect score." "but you gave blabbity-bla a 95 and it doesn't even compare to how awesome this Bethesda title is." and thus, they give it a 10/10. Not every reviewer does this, and I appreciate that. But would I have given this title a 10/10? No, but I don't tend to give many games a score above an 80. I would have given it a 90 or 95. The bugs for me are not game breaking like in previous titles and that takes away a lot of anger I had for Bethesda.
Vargras
http://store.steampowered.com/news/6906/ Skyrim is getting Steam Workshop support. Apparently folks will be able to submit, browse, rate, and download mods for Skyrim through Steam. Sounds interesting. Pirandello
I've also heard that the Workshop even auto-installs those mods for you. Anyways, I've encountered the butt-backwards flying dragon problem, so I'll just be waiting until they patch the patch next week. Quite timely, too, since my finals are also next week. Being able to see Skyrim again after my study spree and finals are a good motivation.
MasterDex
Today, I went down into the dwarven ruins at Markarth. A couple of hours later and far too overencumbered, I've got nearly 200 Dwarven Metal Ingots. I made a fortune AND got my smithing skill just about maxed out! You mean you didn't smith a billion iron daggers like everyone else did? O_o I did that too but getting all that iron was getting annoying so I stopped. Most of my smithing skill was actually raised with just me smithing stuff to sell or use. I wouldn't mind finding a similar trick for fast-levelling enchanting though, I want the best enchantments I can get on my Ebony Armour! Saturnine Tenshi
A weapon with soul trap. Then just pick up or purchase all the lightest gear you can find. I should also point out that The Lovers Stone will increase skill advancement rate by 15%.
