So general gist seems to be the remaster is pretty shitty. At least on the PC where it can be empirically proven too. Audio is further compressed, textures aren't reworked just upscaled, and it holds all of the old bugs and none of the improvements to minor elements that FO4 brought in like quick-looting. So it's basically the 5 year old skyrim with the only improvement being a 64-bit launcher which helps with bigger mods.

And they're charging £30 for it (I thankfully got it for free, as I imagine many people did).

Only remaster I've actively bought is the FFX/FFX-2 and that at least had a remastered score, better models and textures, upped the resolution of FMVs, and for non-EU folks added in some extra content in the form of Dark Aeons and the Advanced Sphere Grid. And bundled in two games for the price too. Considering Skyrim has such a strong legacy this adds a bit of a dark mark too it, it's clearly just a quick and dirty cash grab to keep their coffers ticking over until their next TES.

Yeah, RPS said trying to see a difference between the two on PC is like trying to decide between two shades of white when painting your bathroom. Their takeaway was that the main advantage will be that it's 64 bit so modders will have access to more memory to play with.

Eh, Skyrim was much better in that regard, but yeah they don't do much with the direction. It's steadily improving but at 5 years old Skyrims stoic stoney VA pales in comparison to more modern releases. I wonder if Skyrim is what Dinkelage played before doing Destiny :P

But yeah, it's a five year old game that all they've done on PC front is do "image size = 200%" batch run in Photoshop, recompressed the audio n stuck on a 64-bit exe, on the console front just "export to PS4/Xone". But if memory serves the same was done for Dishonored remaster too. They haven't even fixed any of the UI for PC as was a major complaint at launch (n why I'll be waiting on SKSE support, so I can stick on SkyUI).

btw if you're diving back into it, and this may be late, check out the "Another life" mod, or "Alternative life" mod whatever, it sticks you in a jail cell, you pray to Mara and then pick where you'd like your new life to start. Skips out the intro sequence. oh wait they've that mod thing now (okay there's one change, not sure "improvement" though given you'll still want NMM for installing SKSE down the line)

I opted to start as a lord in Riften, so you start off with err...Breezehome I think is your Riften house. You can start in the middle of nowhere as a hunter n such too. Only minor issue is you start with limited gear since there's no dead imperials to loot for armour n such. But on the plus side there's a whole house to loot of valuables, n mounted shields n swords so not totally fucked.

I also grabbed the Disable Cinematic Kills mod to just shave some time off playthrough (I wish I could find similar for Fallout 4)

and Less Agressive Animals

Which makes a cool change I hadn't realised until now wasn't part of the HD upgrade in changing butterfly to "catch and kill" so you know what you're doing.

So SKSE is delayed for the special edition, and that's really gonna hurt the Special Edition in long run I feel. Sounds like mods are going to be quite limited compared to the original release. I remember using SKSE for the changed UI which was pretty necessary for the PC version (and still is given jack shit has been improved in the PC version).

Certainly one of the bigger mods out there that's sure to bring a touch of nostalgia to come of you (Oblivion is over a decade old at this point). This version doesn't run on the enhanced edition, but apparently future versions (and future areas of Oblivion and beyond) will be only running on the enhanced edition (I imagine due to the RAM bonus)
