Vecha
I have a fucked up sense of humor. I'm always pissing someone off either online or out in the real world.Recently a friend of mine posted a picture of his xbox 360 updating. He hadn't turned it on in several months(maybe a year?) and said it took almost two hours to finish updating. Then he made a joke that this is why he prefers PC gaming. Several of his other friends commented...some saying that PC has updates too, blah blah blah, the usual.I commented that I recently had issues with both my PC AND 360. Updates/connection issues, etc. Then some guy rambled on about his PC gaming is better and gave an example of why PC gaming is better....World of Warcraft.I basically replied, "You've got to be kidding...."He went on to say, "it's only the the best selling game ever. It's on PC if you don't know."I then went into asshole sarcasm mode and said, " know what WoW is...played it a while back(for a week). That was the worst week of my life. Left my two kids and wife(well she left me after I sold one of them.) WoW is your heroin, but things can be different. I know of a support group if you are ready to get your life in order."I guess I didn't make it clear enough that I was just fucking with him...as he replied with two or so paragraphs saying his life is finally in order as he just got a new car, has a house, and a loving g/f. And that he's about to fuck her and then play WoW. He deleted the comments he made after I shot him a message to apologize. I kinda felt bad.Maybe he used to do drugs?TL;DR I'm sometime a sarcastic ass, and put too much energy into feeling bad after trying to be funny.Want to share a time when you've made a major ass of yourself? deanb
See I got called an asshole the other day for pointing out that one of the dudes invited along for Hobbit was massively late and thus meant none of us got to see it (I ended up watching it after work on Thursday). I've mulled it over in my mind a few times but still pretty sure he's the asshole in all this. It'd probably all be forgotten, given I still ended up watching Hobbit regardless, if not for him trying to call me the asshole. Only latest foot-in-mouth episode is I made a remark about a Christmas song that was playing along lines of "jesus ain't got no daddy" and turns out one of colleagues is quite religious. Didn't seem to take much offence to it. Kinda get a bit too used to being in a largely secular nation.

Yeah, something time-critical like a movie, you're the asshole if you're late and make people miss it. Same goes for restaurant reservations and what have you. Mister Jack
I tend not to care anymore if people call me an asshole. I don't care because I realized that most other people are assholes too.

Not sure how cinemas are in the US but over here when the cinema gets full, especially in the first week of opening on the cheapo night, you don't get to go in. But I guess a strong alpha male would have told the cinema workers to can it and waltzed in regardless. Right?

You were all waiting there physically for this person to show up without buying your tickets?
deanb
We can and frequently do (since you can get the "premier seating") if we know ahead of time who is going and who is paying, which since he's the most well of of us it tends to be him. However since we were going after work* not really the opportunity to sit down and book tickets is there? *though as we discovered he was actually off work that day making his lateness even worse. Faiblesse Des Sens
So basically you did this because of this guys social standing. Unbelievable. But you seriously don't have fandango or anything in your country? What the fuck? You can order tickets weeks in advance in Amerifat.
deanb
hehe Amerifat. Yes we can order in advance, already said that. We're a few hours ahead in timezones, not a few decades behind. Also what social standing? I said he's better off, not that he's a noble. Went to the same uni as half of us, lives in the same town. Just has a programming job that currently pays better coffee shops and national trust does. Also he was late, that's why we didn't get to go that night. If someone else was the same amount of lateness circumstances would dictate we'd have also missed the showing too. And would also have led to that person being the one not invited to the second crack at going to Hobbit. You must have some very weird friendships if you measure people by alpha/beta and social standings and not "they like board games, video games and nerdy films, I do too, hey, friends!" Faiblesse Des Sens
It's more like I would never have the expectation that one of my rich friends would pay for me/everyone and we wouldn't do something because that one person dropped out. It reeks of positioning someone higher than you socially and then piggybacking on them instead of doing whatever you want. Hell, I'm even the rich friend to some of my friends, and no one ever has this expectation of me.
deanb
He would pay for the reservations, since he has more cash in the bank he can take the immediate blow of several peoples tickets. We obviously pay him individually then. Maybe in the US you have options to put in multiple card details for payment but over here it's only the one. Over here we also have cinema tickets are quite pricey, but I hear similar complaints in the US too. And as already mentioned in the previous post regardless of who came late, he could have been first one there and someone else turning up equally late, circumstances would have still meant missing the film due to the person's timing not their income. His income only comes into the equation if it's an occasion we'd be reserving seats anyway. You're the only one in this that's giving this person any other social standing above other people due to their income.
Mercurial
So I am taking bets on who is going to give up this argument first.
TheMightyEthan
In the US we don't typically have assigned seats in the theater, so everyone would just reserve their own ticket. No need to have one person reserve a block of seats together. It also means that if you're not early enough to a popular showing you probably won't get to sit together. Some theaters, like Cinemark Bistros (I think my city got the first one ever) let you preplan your seating arrangement.
deanb
For Science! (and potentially clarity) And it's the exact same system for buying tickets at the cinema too just touch screen instead.
TheMightyEthan
For the most part our system is just buy ticket, sit wherever the hell you can find open seating.
Mister Jack
My local AMC used to be a "sit wherever you want" deal but then they remodeled and now you have to pick your seat.
