Yeah, I know. :( Last I heard, they were still saying "March" for the PC version but I wouldn't be surprised if it slipped a bit more. Honestly, if it means a decent PC version this time, I don't mind waiting a few more weeks. Although I hope it doesn't come out too close to my finals. Hell, I'd be okay with it coming out after, I think. Otherwise it's sure to be a massive distraction.

God, I gave up on the legendaries after a couple tries with that one that zooms around so fast.  My ship was as upgraded as I could get and I still got slaughtered.

Yeah, their speed is insane, I didn't try to get any of them until I had the elite upgrades and even then I was almost destroyed several times. :P

Remember Me.

Finished it last night. This is kind of an unfortunate one. :( I started out loving the hell out of it. I'll get into the good in a bit. But first, the weakest link: combat. If you followed coverage of the game around launch, you'll mostly likely have heard that it's shallow, repetitive and boring. Well, that's.. actually spot on. I could tell as early as the second proper mission that combat was going to get old pretty quickly. It was fun at first but after a while it was just something I had to go through to get more of the good bits.

Another complaint I'd heard about the combat was that it was frustrating. I agreed at first. Around the middle, I kept going back and forth between loving and hating the game. I chose to play on the hardest difficulty to maximize achievements, though, so I wasn't willing to blame the game entirely for that. And at some point I started making a conscious effort to play better and it became significantly more manageable. So I can't say I agree on the frustrating part. Although, "playing better" mostly meant dodging around a whole fucking lot and customizing my combos efficiently. Not a whole lot of depth involved, unfortunately. By the end of the game, I had one combo made entirely of healing attacks and one combo made of attacks that reduced my special powers' cooldowns. So it was just a matter of dodging and spamming those whenever I found an opening. Not a whole lot of actual skill involved.

Now that that's out of the way, the good: EVERYTHING ELSE. When I say this is an unfortunate game, it's because there's actually a lot to love here. The story starts out average but has some pretty good twists that ultimately made it rather compelling. The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. And, although I must admit I'm a sucker for cyberpunk stuff, the art direction is just fucking amazing. The game is bright and colorful and the entire world has this augmented reality thing going on with pop-ups all over the place. It just looks gorgeous. It's one of those rare games that regularly made me stop just to take in the scenery and admire the view.

Another complaint was that the memory remixing only happens a handful of times. But honestly, while it's a really cool and novel idea, it essentially plays like a trial-and-error puzzle. Had there been too much of it, it would've gotten really boring really fast. But as it is, every time it happens it has a certain weight storywise and it prevents it from feeling like a gimmick, imho. So, yeah, not on board with the complaint that it was underused.

Overall, I feel the good far outweighs the bad and I ended up really loving the game. That being said, someone with less tolerance for repetition and shitty combat would probably not have as good of a time with it. If you can overlook below average gameplay and enjoy a good story and well-crafted world, then I recommend this one wholeheartedly. Otherwise, this probably isn't the game for you.

The Wolf Among Us, Episode 2.

So all those clips from "Next time on..." weren't really part of Episode 2. Honestly, that's great. It makes the whole episode completely fresh and things don't play out like you expected them to from that preview. The twists, and this is only Episode 2 mind you, are fantastic. The choices feel natural for what stance and attitude you'd like Bigby to have. Also, the game will call you out if you begin to act two-faced.

P.S.

Didn't expect them, but pretty good video game nipples.

Really? Didn't encounter that myself, to the best of my recollection, so I'd be interested to hear (in spoiler tags, obviously).

I was actually a tiny bit disappointed in the episode. I still love the atmosphere and characterisation and everything, but it did feel a little too short, or at least brief and less substantial. Didn't help that there were bugs ruining the experience slightly (the end of episode summary stuff just didn't load) and I felt hurried along at parts. I do appreciate the roleplay stuff, even if the story impact turns out to be minor, but the differences seemed a little too stark here. It was either be a dick/break stuff or be a real nice, patient guy.

However, I'm still looking forward to seeing the rest of it unfold as I enjoy just being in that world and looking at all the 'pretty'.

p.s. yeah, nice boobs. :P

That was four months ago!

Discussing it with my friend, a new (possibly, completely off) theory of mine, having not read the comics:

Snow White is behind it all, setting up Ichabod. She doesn't like him, she wants to change things, she's looking to take over. If anyone can be glamoured then Ichabod could've been, too. And she wants to stay close to Bigby in order to keep tabs on the investigation.

What Ethan said, because honestly...

What killer is going to leave a picture of themselves with the victim at the crime scene? If it was for your own twisted pleasure, one would assume you'd take it with you afterwards.

As for my example of two-faced behavior:

I was violent at first with Dee, but realized I was going a bit far. So I was only talking to him and Dee goes on about how I'm trying to be his friend now when a moment ago I was smacking him around.

I have another possible theory:

Crane really DOES have a Snow White fetish and he really was at the motel with a hooker, but he didn't kill her. The real killer knew about his fetish somehow and secretly took Crane's picture from the outside to frame him as a murderer, then killed Lily after Crane left.

That's definitely very possible. Today I was reading some discussions on it and someone pointed out something.

At some point Tweedle Dum could be glamoured as Crane because when you use the magic mirror to find him, it looks like he was in the same car as the one Crane drove getting you out of the police station. Still, emphasis on "some point." Crane is still likely to have a Snow obsession and someone else planted that "evidence" in the envelope.

Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Just finished the story mode. It's only about half as long as Mortal Kombat's, so that's kind of a bummer. :( It was pretty good, though. Gameplay is on par with MK's and the story is standard comic book nonsense, which I am into. There's some really cool moments in there and Superman makes for a great villain.

NetherRealm Studio should really hire some better cutscene animators, though. Combat animations look fine but man, the characters sometimes move so damn awkwardky in cutscenes. The walking animations look especially weird. It's hard to describe but at times it kinda feels like they took a PS2-era game and just improved the visuals. It just looks kinda stiff and unnatural.

Gone Home

I kinda missed the boat on this one when it first came out, but it was quite good.

Personally, I could give two shits about the main story, though I understand why it received a fair bit of praise for it. More than anything I just thought it was a pretty clever game. Lots of small, but well done sidestories (the father and the house's owner's history comes to mind).

I guess I kinda get why people rave about indie gaming sometimes. To be honest, I haven't really played a story-based indie game I've liked ever (indie favorites up until now were basically Frozen Synapse and DEFCON), but the attention to detail put into Gone Home definitely impressed me.

Now off to go be horribly disappointed by Braid for the umpteenth time.
