Games You've Beat in 2014

I finished Link Between Worlds earlier today. I think it's one of my favourite Zelda games. I had my earphones in a lot of the time as the music was so good. All the classics and the new stuff was really good and perfect for the area it was set in.

This is from a stealthy twilit section:

That's from Dark Palace which was a probably my favourite dungeon.

This one just fills me with joy. When the choir kicks in I can't help but smile.

How does it rate in your list of Zelda games? It think it had an almost perfect mix of the old and new zelda styles. It's mademe really hope they keep on track with th new wii u game. I don't think I can take their interminable delays for that game

Shit, it's possible to platinum on first time?

I've got Shadow of Mordor, Alien: Isolation, and The Evil Within all at various stages of completion. I just need guests to get out of my fucking house so I can actually spend time on them.

Three games on the go at the same time? That's my idea of hell. Any more than 2 at a time and I start to lose the thread; get bored and end up not finishing either.

I just finished The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I'm probably a tiny bit disappointed, but that's only because I'd heard some truly wonderful things about it. I had a good time with the game; but I'm not sure It's my game of the year or anything. I'll definitely keep an eye out for The Astronauts next game though.

Shadow of Mordor, beaten last week. Excellent game; I'll probably get the DLC and tool around getting all the collectibles.

Also beat Endless Legend, in the sense I won my first playthrough. Won based on score when the turn counter ran out.On Easy. After one of the computer players wiped out everyone else, using a race that, like Venice in Civ 5, can't build settlers or gain any additional territory. So the surviving comp player had no chance of beating my score.  <_<

Shadow or Mordor

Man! What a game. Totally makes up for Arkham getting delayed, and then some. The story could use some work, and I could do with a more varied overworld, but this was the first time in ages I felt compelled to do all the side quests in a game. By the end of it Talion is such an overpowered bad ass, but I don't end up minding because it feels so rewarding just chopping through a huge mob of orcs.

I could have done without goddamn fucking Troy Baker. Talion sounded like Joel with a bad British accent. Developers need to realize that there's other voice actors out there besides Troy and Nolan North. It's getting a little distracting.

The Legend of Korra

You know, the video game! Yeah, trust me when I say I'm grounded in my opinion on this title. I'm not going to sound fanatical, but I would like to say I'm not liking fans getting scared off by the IGN and Gamespot reviews. Even the Destructoid review I posted earlier doesn't go deep enough into the game, but gives you a quick rundown of what to expect in the game. If you want the best review, then GameTrailers' video review does the job.

And they gave it a 6.5, whereas I still stick with my 7 Cabbages.

I swear, if there had been more TLC (time, love, and cash) this would probably have been more highly rated. It feels like there was a limit on how much could be done, probably a factor in time if anything. The Platinum charm and style is still there alongside the Korra universe in the presentation, but you won't get anything too over-the-top until you get to the final boss. They weren't kidding when it was said you'd know it's a Platinum boss.

I've already explained the story to the fullest reasonable extent in the actual thread because there's not much else to discover besides the villain's motive. I'd like to think this is canon, but it'd also be a little odd to think Korra went full badass almost secretly between the time Unavaatu attacked and Zaheer broke out of his confinement. It probably is, but it still feels rather shoehorned even with the understanding that there wasn't really any other possible moment for the show's chronology.

The $15 price point I like to think is a positive, but it comes down to how you value time and money. I've read from people that price point isn't a problem so long as they enjoy their time. Yet, if it has been deemed bad, no price will ever offer a reason to play the game. Since it's on Steam, I imagine it could have a sale this winter, but probably not by much. Be aware that there's not going to be a lot of PC options for the game. Heck, I barely had options for the game on PS4.

I could talk more about it more, but basically if you love Legend of Korra, want to play probably the only game that gets bending right without being a joke, here's the game. Will you spend 20 hours on it? Only if you like trophies and want to play it on Extreme.

Yeah, this is the impression I've been getting as well, especially based on what we know of Activision's approach to licensed games. It's unfortunate but I think Platinum simply weren't given the time to polish the game. That last sentence has pretty much convinced me to get the game anyway, though. I love Platinum's boss fights. :D

I should probably get around to catching up on the show first, though...

Assassin's Creed III.

... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Holy shit, what the fuck was that?! I am so glad I don't give a shit about the series anymore because oh my God, that ending would've been insulting.

So, uh, Desmond is dead, I guess? And Juno is off to do... stuff? Somehow, I kinda feel like this isn't what Patrice Désilets was building up to. Really feels like whoever was left in charge of writing this one just pulled whatever out of their ass and left it at that. Jesus...

Anyway, that was basically another cliffhanger but wasn't Black Flag its own separate thing as far as the modern days stuff goes? I know you play as an Abstergo employee in an entertainment division or whatever. Without getting into spoilers, is this Juno plot thread going to be ignored going forward?

Anyway, shitty ending aside, I kind of had a blast with the game! I hadn't touched the series since replaying 1 through Brotherhood right before ACIII came out, so this was my first new AC in like 3 years. Felt good to be back. At first I figured I'd just play through the story and leave it at that. I was only playing this one because I felt I had to if I wanted to get Black Flag once I get my PS4. But I actually ended up doing almost everything in the game. Collect-a-thons, side-missions, challenges, etc. Only got a few challenges left to do and I'll probably try to get those done tonight.

Also, I had heard about the communication issues that plagued this game's development but man. Holy disjointed game, Batman. Everything is so compartmentalized, it really shows that the work was split up between different studios all over the planet. The ship stuff was a ton of fun but there's barely any of it in the main campaign. I only found out there were a bunch of naval side-missions like halfway through the damn game. The Homestead missions were alright but again, most of it felt rather inconsequential. The crafting menu was a chore to navigate and I ended up ignoring all the convoy shit because of it. Didn't seem worth the hassle for what little amount of money it earned me. And this one's probably because I wasn't paying attention, but I also realized pretty late that I could still send my assassins on missions and level them up. But once again, much like everything else, it felt kind of half-assed. It wasn't done as well as in Brotherhood. Nothing happened when they reached max level. And this leads me to my one major complaint about Connor's story.

Remember when these games were about an actual brotherhood of Assassins and their struggle against the Templars? Man, those were the days! I didn't really have an issue with Connor himself (apparently a lot of people disliked him? I mean, he was no Ezio but still)) but he never really felt like an Assassin to me, he was just handed a cool-looking suit by an old black guy. I never got the impression that he was part of (or actually cared about) any sort of secret organization. He just wanted revenge on people that just happened to be Templars. Other than the modern days stuff, I feel like they could've dropped the entire Assassins vs Templars thing and the game would've literally been unchanged.

So yeah, while the game was really fun to play, overall I can't say I'm impressed. That being said, now I cannot fucking wait to play Black Flag! The ship missions were by far the best parts of the game. So having a game not only centered around that but also about motherfucking pirates? Yes, please!

Yeah the ending was pretty bad. I did enjoy the other modern day stuff outside of the temple, it was cool finally doing assassiny stuff in modern day with Desmond. But man, that ending.... five games training this guy, leading to... that?

I faintly recall there being Juno or something like her in AC4 but I can't recall for certain, I generally stop paying attention at that point.

And yeah, I liked AC3 too, I like Connor as a character, and frankly, it was nice seeing a different ethnicity and culture get a lead role in a game for once. The homestead missions made him a lot more likeable. The game had some technical issues, and probably could have explained some of it's systems better.

If you don't like his relationship with the assassins just wait for his grandfather.

I never played Resplutions because I didnt like Ezio enough (have no idea how people prefer him to Connor) and Brotherhood was great enough for me. But ACIII os good crack, even if it's jank as fuck. Brotherhood is a big improvement. And im hoping Unity + Rogue are even bigger ones...

Ive almost finished Mordor. Yes, Gerbil, it's a bit much having 3 games at once. Theyre all great and ive barely had time to play em- which is okay as i enjoy every minute i snatch with em

I "beat" Civilization Beyond Earth. Got Harmony victory. Not as dramatic as I figured it would be. Ginna get a few more victories in before mulling on my thoughts. It's both very similar, yet quite different to Civ5.

Maybe a review? I'm not sure if it's worth me picking the game up. I enjoy CIV, but...do I really need to spend £30 to get 'Civ in Space'...
