Hahaha, man you're missing out. Oath in Felghana is a remake of Ys III. It's on Steam if you're curious.

They're up to Ys Seven now, which was a PSP exclusive in most regions. The most recent release (a couple months ago) was a remake of Ys IV for the Vita.

To be fair, Ys I and II were remade A LOT of times. Also the other remakes can confuse the hell out of people. With that said, Ys V man. We're still waiting for a remake of that. The battle system of that was odd to say the least. Its not a stretch to call that one Zelda-ish when I think about it. If I recall, Falcom got tons of flak for it. Hell, I didn't play much of it since there isn't a translation out for it so between that and the battle system, I gave up. I should retry since I was burnt out by then. Moving from Origin, Oath and Seven to that was brutal.

Yeah, when I first started looking into the series I didn't know which game went where. It gets confusing when they start remaking them and dropping the numerals.

Also, it seems Falcom have been considering doing either Ys 8 or a remake of Ys V as their next project. http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/18/next-ys-game-could-be-ys-eight-or-an-ys-v-remake/

I kinda hope it's the latter, personally. Now that Celceta is out, Ys V is the only one that was never localized, I think.

Well I finally beat Shin Megami Tensei IV.  I got the law ending, which is weird because  I was going for neutral but I thought if I couldn't get that I would at least end up with the chaos ending.  I can't say the law ending made me feel too good after I beat it, either.  I might do new game+ at some point to go for the neutral path again, but I have a lot of 3DS games on my backlog.  I have to decide now between Zelda, Pokemon X, Donkey Kong, and Fire Emblem.

Muramasa Rebirth.

Finished the second campaign last night and man, I love this game. Some of its elements are kinda weak but the overall result is very much greater than the sum.

The metroidvania aspect is really lacking. It's only there in the sense of the map structure. There's little actual exploration involved and you never get new abilities, just swords that allow you to break a different color of barriers. Backtracking gets a little annoying after a while and you only unlock warping for a character after beating the final boss the first time.

The story is good but nothing particularly mind-blowing. It's cool that each character has a different story and starts on a different side of the map but when I finished the second one I was surprised by how there was ultimately very little that linked the two. At least, not in the first endings. When you get Kisuke's alternate ending, then there's a direct connection that's established. That one's my favorite ending by far. I still have the final (true?) endings to get but I still have a bunch more swords to forge before I can get those.

The best parts were the setting, visuals, soundtrack and, to a lesser extent, the combat. The combat is very easy to learn but on Chaos difficulty there's definitely some skill that's required. It made for some very fun combat and in my 20 hours with the game I was never annoyed by the random encounters. Also, forging new blades is way more satisfying than you'd expect. Other than that, the game looks gorgeous and the soundtrack is a perfect match for the visuals. I love classical Japanese settings and this one was done so well that I'm kinda sad that it's over.

I'll definitely be sticking with it a bit longer for the last endings, trophies and such. Then there's Fury mode, which brings back the autoblocking from Legend difficulty (Chaos doesn't have it so I'm not sure how useful it actually is) but only gives you 1HP. The masochist in me is very tempted to give it a shot. Then I'll have to get Dragon's Crown.

Yeah, it's kind of awful. I figured since I got it for free I might as well play it for the easy platinum but I just couldn't be bothered to play more than the first episode after seeing the performance. I was thinking if it was good I might get season 2 for Vita instead of PC but I was not impressed.

Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1: Man, I wish Lee was around to help Clem. It's cool that she's older though, and the voice actress has done a good job adapting her voice.

The Wolf Among Us Episode 1: I went into this knowing nothing about Fables, but that didn't prevent me from getting into this. Bigby Wolf is an interesting character, in fact, almost all of them are. Due to being incredibly manly I didn't know what most stories these characters came from, but my fiance was watching me play and she could figure most of it it out. Episode 2... next week!!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut

I had started the original version once before but never finished it.  I managed to get the director's cut at a pretty decent price so I figured why not, I might as well finish what I started.  The game is pretty good for the most part, and I did enjoy the story, but there were a lot of little flaws in there that served to really piss me off sometimes.

Also, the included Missing Link dlc is garbage.  I think adding it in actually brought the game down.

What makes you say that? Does it not fit well when integrated with the campaign or something? I mean, I only played it as a standalone experience long after I played DXHR, but it wasn't bad at all. I certainly wouldn't call it garbage.

Maybe playing it alone makes it a little more bearable but try to see things from my perspective.  I had never finished the original game so I had no idea what to expect or what the DLC even was until someone told me which part of the game wasn't originally there.  Now, I had built up Adam with a whole lot of praxis points into a hacking/assault specialist, and I had accordingly adjusted my gameplay style to account for that.

DLC starts and whoops, there go all my upgrades.  They give you a few points, sure, but not nearly enough to get me back to the way I was.  Oh yeah, and for a while all your guns are gone too.  I fucking hate when games do that.  I might have mentioned that in the tropes that need to go thread, but if not I'm gonna mention it here: I hate when games have a level where you're captured and all your gear is taken away, forcing you to do the stealth approach.  You get it back eventually, but not all the ammo that you've been saving.  You don't get that back until the very end when you've already done everything.

The design of the whole area just felt weak to me, too.  Too many corridors and not enough open areas.  There was also too much backtracking.

Finally, the boss.  Oh my god, I hated this boss so much, and because I was low on ammo and didn't have the upgrades I was used to it probably took me 20 god damn tries to beat that room.  To put it simply, they were pushing late game difficulty on a character with mid-game power at best.  Maybe their intention was for it to be harder, but I don't like it when the difficulty of a game suddenly spikes out of nowhere.

Oh yeah, and the story that happens on the ship is completely pointless.  In case anyone hasn't played it I won't say what happens, but you have played it and you do know what happens and you also know that it has no effect whatsoever on the rest of the game.  That might not be jarring if you play it standalone, but I was playing the Director's Cut so they integrated it right into the main storyline, then never bring it up again after it's over.

If you enjoyed it, I'm glad, but I easily found it to be the weakest part of the entire game.

Missing Link wasnt terrible, but it kind of lifts right out when integrated into the Director's Cut. And yeah, Im also not a fan of games choosing which way to approach a situation. The whole point of these games is to play it in whatever way you want. Dont force people to do stealth when theyve been shooting it up for the majority of the game.

I imagine its no big deal if you never played the game before though. It fits....even though I just said it lifts right out. I guess it all depends if you played the original version.

Dark Souls.

Holy shit, it feels good to finally make this post. What a game. I was kind of annoyed with myself when I stopped playing last fall. I started it fully intending to beat it but then I bought The Last of Us and then Blacklist and Arkham Origins and I got a Vita and after a couple months had passed it really started to feel like I'd just never get back to it. Really glad I did, though. I think it's easily one of my top games ever. For a while, I wasn't sure whether I liked Demon's Souls better or not. But now that's it over, I think Dark is definitely the superior one. Although that ending...

It was so abrupt that I thought maybe I had accidentally skipped the cutscene. What an anticlimactic way to end this.

It's been a while but seem to recall Demon's Souls having a bit more of an actual ending.

Can't wait for Dark Souls II now. I kind of want to say I won't take so long to beat that one but I'm pretty sure I must have said the same damn thing about the first one so we'll just have to see. And, even though DSII is coming out soon, I really, really hope From does something about GFWL. I would hate to see the online side of the game die just because of Microsoft's piece of shit of a service.

Assassin's Creed IV, it was fun, going against the legendary ships was cool, but I do wish you could do more with them, the ram attack you unlock after destroying all 4 ships is cool, but it would be better  if you could add them to your fleet or something. :P
