Mal
Seems to be an reimagination of the Journey to the West myth/story. Of course they leave the more hype stuff towards the end (basically shows him in the process of lowkey Kratos-ing heaven). Not sure if I'll really like the gameplay (whenever and if it comes out... especially here), but something to look forward to.
TheMightyEthan
That looks like it could be really cool, and it's actually made by a Chinese developer! It's super pretty too. Can't tell about the combat from the trailer, but I'm at least interested.
MetalCaveman
Got some real Dark Souls vibes from that intro, and the gameplay reminded me of Ninja Gaiden, so yeah, I'm in. \m/ \m/
Mal
Oh my God! The outro referenced the intro to the best TV/movie adaptation for The Journey to the West!
toxicitizen
Wow, as someone that was super into the Arkham games, neither of these interest me at all. At least, based on those trailers. Such a bummer that they're both co-op focused, too.
Mister Jack
The worst part is that Gotham Knights is another Destiny clone. I am so sick of this Destiny crap.
toxicitizen
Yeah, between just Destiny 2 and Warframe, I have sunk hundreds of hours into the genre. So it's not like I have anything against it, really. It's just not what I wanted from this series at all. I've also come to realize that the genre may just not be for me. I enjoyed my time with both games but I find the prospect of going back to either kind of daunting. When you get to the grind and start thinking about doing dailies and weeklies or whatever and going for end-game gear it just starts to feel like work to me. And when I inevitably stop playing, I dread coming back because it just feels like I have to commit so much time to it if it's gonna be worth it. So yeah, very much not looking to get into any more of these GaaS-type loot games. thanks! I just wanna punch goons as Batman or whoever else and occasionally take a break from punching and look for shiny green question mark trophies. TheMightyEthan
Weren't there weird licensing issues with that game that was preventing it from being sold for a long time?

I think it was just Ubisoft that couldn't be bothered to resolve them. I've only been vaguely aware of this but it sounds like Scott Pilgrim's creator had to get personally involved to get things moving.

Mal
Umm, how did this BotW-like clone get past me (edit: or did I or someone post about it and I totally forgot since it's 2020?)? I only noticed it when I came across this tweet: That cut animation is pretty damn fly. It made me question what am I looking at? Am I looking at some gacha game or what? I even found the English website here: https://genshin.mihoyo.com/pre-register/?utm_source=invite&invite_code=c7ab35d0706d127961fe0669d16af3a8#/ and it made it to feel like a gacha mobile game but is it? Basically, yeah. It's gacha but the game is an open-world adventure game basically like BotW. It does adds quite a bit of anime bullshit fluff to it which may interest some of you. I'm not sure why there's gacha since the core gameplay seems fine if grindy. If anything the gacha makes the game even more grindy than it has to be. You get rid of the gacha and balance it without that and you might have a banger of a game. As for platforms... It's coming for, yes, iOS and Android, but also for PS4, Switch and PC. It should be coming out this month on the 28th but we'll see. Price is... free? I'm still not sure what's up. Just charge me $60 waifu bucks and make it gacha-less. I'm not even sure how the "free" gacha model works for PS4, Switch and PC... Edited September 12, 2020 by Mal
TheMightyEthan
That looks enough like BotW that if I just scrolled past it on my feed I would think that's what it was.
toxicitizen
Looks kind of underwhelming for a mainline FF, imho. I'm surprised it doesn't seem to be cross-gen because at first I thought it was a new expansion for FFXIV based on how the characters looked. Then again, if not pushing the tech side of it means they focused on actually making a good game with a good story this time then that's perfectly fine by me. 1
toxicitizen
YO WHAT THE HELL Unclear if that's a fuck up on Sony's part or not.
MetalCaveman
I hope it's true, given that it's a $70 title, which means around $2500 pesos, so if I can get it on PC, that's where I'll buy it.
toxicitizen
Seems Sony pulled the trailer lol. Oh well, could still come at a later time I guess. Something about the game looks really off to me so I'm not too broken up about it if it's not coming at all.

Mal
Ah, I see. Yeah, lots of rocks and shit so things are rather muted. Things are rather conservative so perhaps they'll spend more of the tech power for other things. Also, I forgot about FFXII with a medieval-like setting. toxicitizen
Woah, Disgaea 6 going for fully 3D character models. End of an era.
Mal
I think 2D-ish looking 3D models has come a long way and now can be made to look excellent but yeah, end of an era. We need another Vanillaware stat!

We need another Vanillaware stat! Honestly, I'm surprised it's taken them this long. From the trailer, it looks like a massive upgrade, especially with the camera freedom it brings for special attacks animations. And given the art style of the series, they can probably keep using the same models until like... Disgaea 12. No matter how high res you make them, sprites will inevitably end up looking like shit sooner or later. And 4K is about to become the standard on consoles... I think that's the reason they skipped over Disgaea 3 with the PC releases. For some baffling reason, they hadn't felt the need to do HD sprites at the time, so it looked like shit on day one lol. It just wouldn't fly today, I think. Same reason why they straight up remade Disgaea 1 to rerelease it on consoles.
