April is like 10,000 years away...

Yeah, I measure everything in terms of covid now. So I'll think about something and go "that's only 6 months away, that's not so bad" and then I'm like "wait, 6 months ago is when I went into lockdown, which was like 97 years ago..."

It's nuts now to think that I've been back out of lockdown longer than I was in it though. I was in for 2.5 months and have been out now for 3.5.

Seems to be an reimagination of the Journey to the West myth/story. Of course they leave the more hype stuff towards the end (basically shows him in the process of lowkey Kratos-ing heaven).

Not sure if I'll really like the gameplay (whenever and if it comes out... especially here), but something to look forward to.

I came across the following video that helps explain the trailer for most non-Chinese people. It even helped me since I don't understand Mandarin or read Chinese.

And if you guys want, you can watch the 1980's TV adaption with English subs on Youtube. All official and everything. It just has some spotty but adequate subs. Now if only I can find the Cantonese version...

Word on the street is they're actually going ahead with Royal, which is mildly shocking to me but I'm not complaining. Then again, P4G did generate like 20 millions a decade after release so I'm sure that sent a message. They could probably get away with charging 50$ or so for Royal, if not straight up full price, so it makes sense they'd wanna strike while the iron is still hot.

Only thing I'm interested in (from what I can tell) but even then I'm being cautiously optimistic.

Octopath Traveler was a fine game but wasn't really pushed by the characters or story since they really didn't intersect in any meaningful way. Another game you can compare this to is Fire Emblem Three Houses which to me has fantastic game play but the story(ies) left me scratching my head at the end. Some great characters and story beats but it didn't stick the landing for me.

Really glad they're doing something new with the style instead of just making Octopath 2. It sounds like Octopath wasn't anything special but this aesthetic is really appealing to me.

@MetalCaveman By all means correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the first game the only good one? At least I think that's what I remember hearing.

1/Black was the best. 2 was much more simple and not as good but still pretty fun IMO, 3 was a MESS slightly fixed with the Razor's Edge version.

The Sigma versions were all over the place, with the Sigma+ versions, made for the Vita being improvements over the base Sigma stuff. iirc Sigma removed the blood and gore, a bunch of cutscenes and some puzzles but added playable Rachel, which some people didn't like, but I thought it was OK, the + version added back the blood and gore, but the rest remained mostly the same.

So yeah, in a way, the only good GOOD one is 1/Black, 2 isn't bad and 3 is just kinda nice to have. :P

UNLESS they're going off of the base Sigma versions... That could be an issue...

I second this. Octopath is gorgeous, and I actually really liked the demo, but in the full game the way you collected characters, with each quest feeling like the first act of its own game, really dragged after about the third one. Other than that I really liked it, and I really really dig tactical RPGs, so hopefully this will be more up my alley.
