TheFlyingGerbil
Seems weird they'd abandon Paris after only one outing - all that work gone to waste and they might have actually sorted the problems out by the next installment. If they've started from scratch again won't people be wary the new one will be just as under-baked.
TCP
All the Assassin's Creed games have a different locations, I don't think recycling Paris was ever on the agenda for anything other than DLC, what's interesting (and good) is that they've dropped Arno. Though, I wouldn't say no to a game set in Paris during WW2. Killing Nazis and stuff. This will be the third "Victorian" (if that's even a real era... DEAN!!) game of 2015. The Order 1886 and Bloodborne (I'm not clear if it actually is Victorian or just Victorian influenced). The Victorian era is the new zombie. Edited December 2, 2014 by The Cowboy Poet
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, plus the main problem with Unity seems to be that not only did they do a new location but they scrapped all the systems and started from scratch with those too. Â For this one they'll need to make new assets but not new gameplay systems, they can just spend time making sure the Unity ones actually work, so that will alleviate a lot of the issues. Â Like Cowboy says, every AC game has had a new location. Â I am kind of surprised they're abandoning France altogether, but it would have been weird if they'd stuck with Paris.
Hot Heart
This was by a different team, and was apparently in the works for years, so there's still a possibility that Paris will be reused by the same Unity dev team for 2016. TheMightyEthan
If so it would be a first for the series.
TheFlyingGerbil
I guess I shouldn't have specifically said Paris  - I meant revolutionary period Europe as an era. There is a lot of history to explore all over Europe at that time.  Since the first game they had several (too many?) games in each era before they've moved on. I know there were new main locations in each game but there were definitely reuses too like Florence,  and things like the Colosseum and Monteriggioni were used for ezio and desomand to visit. Several games went back to the crusades era assassin base, masyaf even though only one was set in that era and I'm sure there are others I cannot remember.  Anyway, even if most of the locationsn are new though I'm sure there is less effort to go produce a second/third ezio game or going from 3 to black flag than to create a whole new situation if only because you have all the base research for clothes/buildings, historical situations and people and mechanics for weapons and transport and there must be loads of assets that could be reused between the games in the same era. Not to mention just the general storyline is easier to continue as you have the characters and who the bad guys will be and tone and just a lot of stuff nailed down that must take a lot of time to decide on when created entirely from scratch for a new era.  Anywho - I think I went from overly brief to overly rambly. and I guess if there is a new head studio working on london it means there could still be work going on on another revolutionary era game at montreal - I just think alternating between two different eras alternate-yearly would be kind of weird and unlikely so I can't help feel unity will be left as a one-off which seems like a waste.
SomTervo
Yeah I get the vibe that Unity will be a one-off. I can't see a historical or narrative incentive for Ubi to return to Paris- even France. Maybe WWI or WWII Paris, but not revolutionary. That'll be two games set roughly around the late 18th century, in the two parts of the world where shit was really going down at that time. I can't imagine them going back.  It's feeling increasingly like they should definitely be moving further East or South at this point. All the most significant bits of pre-modern western history are being sucked dry  Is the umbrella story ever going to end? It's just so stupid. It could only end with either the Assassins or Templars getting killed off or finding out more about the precursors. Imagine a game where we play Adam and Eve... maybe that'll be the last one. Based on The Truth or whatever in the first AC. The two of them fleeing the precursors.  Edit: I was looking at the GAF thread for the new AC game, and by god so many people are hating on Unity like it's some abhorrent creation. I actually feel personally insulted by some of the comments. It's like normalising negative behaviour. 9/10 of the people complaining about the game never actually touched it. They're just whaling on something because of facts which are exaggerated in reportage and will never give the playable experience a chance. Eleven
Other than the framerate, which is still not great, I didn't really encounter any issues with Unity. Probably some PC bugs (I saw a video with missing skins, heads), but those are probably on the PC port, which were never on the PS4 version I played. Then it blew up. The patch notes has a LOT of fixes when I read it, but I don't think I've encountered any of them... Â Anyhoo, finally completed chests, cockades, and Nostradamus Enigmas. Man, I think collecting was the only thing I did in the game this past 2 weeks. I've finally unlocked the dark Altair armor, and now it's time to complete and get all the rewards for story and co-op missions. Â I'm going to be playing the real game now!
SomTervo
I adore the riddles and murder mysteries. You done em, 11?
Eleven
I did only a few riddles myself, mostly those that have clues about landmarks you can see. Some of them depend on the database entries (or just be familiar with the era/lore - i mean the riddle says church, but which church?), those I just look up if I don't get it right away. Â The murder mysteries, I haven't really started them yet. I only did 1 to unlock all the others, but I've been seeing them pop up on my map now. I may do some of them in between the co-op and single player missions I need to complete.

TheMightyEthan
I'm waiting for the PC/PS4 version.
TCP
Yeah, an AC game partially set in Canada is an awesome thing. But my PS3 is set up in the bedroom as a Netflix machine and I'm done playing games on the DS3, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of using the DS4 on PS4, so I'll just hold out for the PS4 version, which I imagine could have some improvements beyond just graphics. I wouldn't be surprised to get a PS4 version of Rogue within the first few months of next year. Â Really, what Ubisoft should do, is spinoff the boating Ass Creeds into their own series, call it Pirate's Creed or something and alternate between them and traditional Assassins Creed games every autumn.
SomTervo
The riddles and murder mysteries are the absolute shit. Like the best side missions ive ever played in any game
Eleven
They changed some of the ship stuff in AC: Rogue. You don't drop landmines anymore for pursuers, you set the water on fire! The swivel gun (they call it something different now) can now be aimed and fired manually, you don't need to wait for red targets (after hitting them with the broadside cannons), although red targets still do appear and hitting them with the swivel gun causes more damage. The swivel gun is also easier to use when boarding. Â Also, I just got boarded. I'm not sure if this was just a story mission, or if it will only happen a few times, but that's something different. The ship just rammed me and they jumped into my ship.
TheMightyEthan
The review I saw said that enemy ships can board you now.
MetalCaveman
The swivel gun was replaced with the puckle gun, fires faster than the swivel gun of Black Flag, and carries more ammo. Â You can be boarded at any time when fighting other ships, though I've only been boarded once, not sure if all ships can do it, or if it's just brigs (the one time I was boarded was after a brig rammed my ship).
TCP
Read that as the pickle gun. Got excited. Now, disappointment.
Eleven
So I just finished Rogue. Â Non-spoilery bits: Kinda cool seeing Paris recreated in the old engine. Those chimneys! It was also a bit annoying to go back to the old free-running. The one in Unity is a massive, MASSIVE, improvement, which I did notice when I played Unity, but has become so very apparent when I went back to the old one. The old combat that I missed is here though, so it balances it out for me. And ships! Damn ship combat is as good as ever. I got boarded a bunch of times for failing to outmaneuver enemy ships. Â I didn't like the snow. The amount of story missions that take place in snow or ice covered landscapes. The environments just look boring. I played it on PS3, not sure if it'll look different on PC, but they are just ugly. Â I love the forts (gang hideouts), and the assassin's in hiding spots just waiting to jump you. Assassinating an assassin hiding in the hay feels good. The gang leader is a special kind of assassin that moves about and tracks you in the fort, and you have to be unseen to kill him, otherwise he'll hide away and run, after shooting you or blinding you with a smoke bomb first, of course. Kinda funny to keep referring to the assassin's as criminals and gangs. Did I get that right? Or are they just the assassin's men? I don't know. Templar Indoctrination is really strong in this one. Â Now for the spoiler bits... Â Shay's story feels short. But it's intriguing and isn't needlessly complicated. I like how his story ends, tying it to both AC3 and AC Unity. I also like that he stays a templar till the end. The modern day part here is better than what was in AC4. It still just asks you to go somewhere and hack things, but there's actual payoff in the end. I actually WANT to be part of the Templars after this. The combination of what happens in the story and how they frame the modern day makes me want to. That's how I felt, at least. Â
TheFlyingGerbil
Hopefully be getting it after Christmas - if Santa doesn't drop it down my chimney. Got to stop mentioning games as present ideas to my parents when I'm itching to play them. I'm a bit blah about games at the moment, but I know if I get this I will have an enjoyable binge at least and hopefully reignite my desire to play other games.
