Yeah, though there's a little more to it than that link implies.

I'm sure it will be covered in the beginning of AC3 too for people who didn't play the DLC. The DLC centers around Subject 16, and that's just one of the things that are revealed about him. I'm sure he'll tell this stuff to Desmond, this just shows how 16 learned it.

In the original AC I couldn't stand Desmond's story. To me, I saw it as a way of introducing the time period and everything. It was boring. Then AC2 came along and the same thing, that is until we started to see more of desmonds training/story. I started to enjoy the character, and by the end of Brotherhood I was more interested in Desmond than I was in Ezio. Ezio was still interesting, but Desmond's story had my attention. Especially the modern day climbing. (should that go spoiler? I'm trying to keep it vague)

Going to give Revelations a try when it's cheap enough and I make a break in my backlog.

I'd agree with this. The Desmond stuff in AC1 was a little slow.

Yeah, originally the only reason for the modern day setting and the animus is that the lead designer was retarded and felt obligated to explain away the video game elements like the HUD, so he came up with the animus, which is why you don't have the HUD and stuff in the modern day segments. Since then, however, I've become interested in the modern day plot, but I think overall the series could potentially have been cooler without that being shoehorned in at the beginning.

*Edit* - It would be like a movie maker making a film a faux documentary because he felt obligated to explain away the lens flare rather than because artistically that's how he wanted the movie to be.

I was intrigued by the metanarrative stuff but not the characters involved.

Yeah, this is where I am. I want to know what happens with the story, but I don't actually care about any of the people.

Is anyone opposed to me merging this into the general Assassin's Creed thread?

Merged.

Hey now, don't take credit for what I did :P

I ended up reading the spoilers too and I've not even played AC:R yet let alone the DLC. I do agree, probably an IRL retcon.

AC:B is where the retcon began. I did not get that impression in AC1 or 2.
