So the trailer is finally live (Dee's link wasn't working for me earlier in the weekend) and the gaming media sites have released their articles. Glad to hear that 60% of the game will be land based, as I still love the traditional Assassin's Creed formula.
I do feel like someone at Ubisoft noticed the numbered games sell way better than just the subtitled games, and that's why this game got the number IV, especially given the Kenway connection. Which leads me to believe that Assassin's Creed V (or whatever they decided to call Assassin's Creed 2014) will star a younger Haythem, be set in London, explain his "twist" from AC3, and round out the trilogy.

The ocean is supposed to be open-world-style, rather than the single missions of AC3.  In fact the impression is that the game as a whole is supposed to be open world, but we'll see.  One thing though is that obviously with the ocean being part of the open world it will be able to be much larger than if it was primarily land, since the ocean is uniform and 1) doesn't require design effort to make bigger, and 2) won't require nearly as much in terms of computing resources to make bigger.

The Nintendo commenters on Kotaku losing their shit because one of the developers claims to have never played Wind Waker, has been hilarious. If there's small little islands that you randomly come across that need exploring, count me as excited.
I'm also excited because some of the Far Cry 3 team moved over to this. Overall I thought AC3 was a better game, but there were somethings FC3 did better. Plus they do know their jungles!

Now, Ubisoft, how about another Vita game? Since the last one sold so well! Maybe one with a fully fleshed out storyline and character development, instead of just throwing us into this and expecting us to read the codec entries.

Given my current playthrough of ACIII (could change, only like 1/3 through) I/d say I'm not too fussed for Black Flag. Do find it silly it's clearly ACIII: Black Flag but they've hitched up a number for marketing reasons. Just not seeing the series really being "Assassin's Creed" anymore. ACI had it's issues, but it seems over time they've strayed further away from the name n aim than pull it in tighter, especially as it's now Pirates Creed. (The naval combat is neat what I've played so far, but worthy of a spin-off, or separate game, not getting an AC to itself)

Yeah 600K isn't bad for a spin-off.

I've been looking forward to an open world pirate game ever since that Pirates of the Caribbean Disney game got the axe. Reviews all said it was really promising. Now I have to complete Revelations and then get AC3 and try to keep up with the series. If only my Revelations game didn't bug out not allowing me to access a mission. :/

If people were like me Cowboy it wasn't so much about us losing our shit about them not playing Windwaker as much as them not knowing ANYTHING about it. Such a disconnect from the gaming world that is a bit weird.

And yeah if I get this game you bet your sweet assassin ass I'll spend 90% of the time in the ocean fighting pirates and killing whales.

Oops. I typed something in but then I checked previous pages and realized I haven't posted it yet.

Anyway, it's about how they're going back to more "simple objective" based missions ala AC 1. I hate the missions in AC 3, 'cause they make you do all these things that aren't really interesting. Whole missions / objectives where you don't get to do a single assassination, or even attempt an assassination. Making you throw tea leaves overboard, acting like a commander ordering people to fire. Escorting old dude on a rampage.

I think they should do away with these missions, where you orchestrate shit. Let other people do it, and at the same time assign objectives for you where you get to do assassin' stuff. Maybe while they're throwing tea leaves, they should send you out intercepting enemy soldiers before they get to the ship (by air assassinating the leaders or whatever, you could just charge them if you feel like it). Assassinate redcoat commanders behind enemy lines while these people defend the bridge.

But then AC:2 had story missions, and I don't know why I was never bothered with it. Maybe it's just Connor being an unlikeable, naive protagonist. Not to mention how boring he sounds, speaks. Or maybe AC3 just forgot it was an Assassin's Creed game so it ended up asking you to do shitty things. It's too bad because I like the mechanics in AC3. My new favorite is leaning on walls, or hiding in hay and whistling. Edit: Oh and the combat. Every installment's improvements makes me like the combat more and more.

  • 2 weeks later...

Waiting for the credits to finish. :(

SPOILER ALERT!

Next time, I hope, Ubisoft that you...

make the final mission an assassination worthy of the game's name. Not a ridiculously annoying chase scene.

You can have the all the drama after Connor stabs the dude in the neck. Everyone else made their speech and took their sweet time dying after killing blow.

God, that chase scene is just fucking embarrassing. It's not anywhere near as smooth as earlier instances in the game either. There's even one bit that kept tripping me up due to crap design that meant Connor doesn't navigate how he's supposed to the first time, and I checked playthrough videos to see it happens to pretty much everyone. It's why I'd assume Ubisoft doesn't have a QA team.
