Anybody see this?

10 minutes of free roaming gameplay ripped from the closed beta. Lots of gameplay-spoilers in there. Like unannounced mechanics. I couldn't see any story spoilers.

Frankly... my hype level just took a nose dive.

The minimap is there. Everything looks... Exactly the same.

It's exactly the same as AC always was. Except with quicker, smoother animations (traversal looks massively improved) and far better interiors. (Edit: though if you go to 8:26 you'll see the guy doing the classic AC dance. Tries to jump off a balcony upwards and diagonally, instead jumps through the adjacent window; hops in, hops out, hops in, hops out, has to run back and line it up again. Has anything changed?!)

Really disappointed. The skill tree looks pretty damn small (7 stealth upgrades?) and the ability thing? Christ. Totally defeats the point. Christ.

Context-sensitive stuff is never going to be perfect.

More broadly, this looks like a true beta to me: if you want while he runs down the street, he's clipping through a bunch of the pedestrians.  There's no way they'd leave that in the final game.

They showed some of the mission design improvements in the "black box" video? Ie a return to the first AC, assassinations happening in larger open areas with a fully realised building as a centrepiece, etc. Though I guess that's just one type of mission.

Yeah the clipping and such is pretty brutal. I was thinking, maybe the map inclusion and flawed-looking mechanics are just beta junk.

Unity has been delayed until November 11 in the US and November 13 in Europe.

FFS, I've already got the Master Chief Collection coming on the 11th, and then Dragon Age the following week on the 18th.  Unity was the only thing in there to break up the games desert between Destiny on September 9th and the MCC, and I was already worried the two-week window it got wasn't going to be long enough.  I was already pissed with Dragon Age moved from October to November, because before that happened I actually had a pretty nicely spaced fall release calendar.  Now I'm debating cancelling my Unity preorder, because between Unity, the MCC and DA:I, Unity is the thing I'm most able to wait for.

Started AssCreed 4: BFFs. Watch Kenway and Adéwalé go from mateys to mates.

The initial opening feels a bit rushed, but I guess better than it being too slow.

"Ooh, I'm off to join the assassins!"

"Psyche! Welcome to the Templars!"

"NOT AGAIN"

My other initial thought is that the mission design feels a little better and a little more forgiving. Like, you can go all stealthy and feel like a badass if you nail it, but if you mess up you're not punished with a restart. Everything just gets messy and feels awkward, and becomes somewhat 'desynchronised' (akin to messing up in a 3D Sonic and breaking your flow) which is enough of a disincentive for me.

p.s. what the frig is up with the odd (non)capitalisation of words in the HUD as well as the subtitles?! Fix your game, Abstergo.

Tryin to be hip. Apparently many big silicon valley companies are dropping capitalisation in all correspondence, marketing, etc. Take a look at the ACIVBF non-Animus context and see for yourself what hipster wet dream the creators of ACIVBF are living in

Edit: Ethan, seeing as everyone seems to be hesitant to make a Shadow of Mordor thread- hows that going? Hows it compare to AC? Ive been hearing its a real nice mix between AC and Arkhams gameplaywise, with the Nemesis stuff spicing it all up

Edit edit: lol then i see Jack's thread

Yeh they dont use them in emails or anything. It's fair enough linguistically; period points are clear enough in most fonts to not be necessary

Anyway, GAMES

Specifically, AC GAMES

I hear Rogue's gameworld is 2.5x the suze of ACIVBF's. Now that's a number I like. Almost singlehandedly convinced me to preorder

There is a shadow of mordor thread, kenshi.

I've only played it for a couple hours, so these are my very early impressions. I have watched a number of streams and recordings of gameplay from the midgame as well.

SoM is kinda like AC 2 or Brotherhood in map size and density. I find traversal to be slightly better, but I have not encountered many complex structures yet. It's better in that there are fewer false starts and limitations on where you can go when climbing, diving, etc. You can eagle dive from anywhere and survive, for example.

SoM is structurally similar to the AC games, but it really pulls of motivating the player to kill specific orcs very, very well due to the nemesis system. There is also more freedom to take out targets however you see fit.

Once I get my new GPU I'll play more. My current GPU runs the game on low.

Sounds nice, though that world size is a little disappointing. My demands on worldsize are pretty ridiculous. I love worlds which are massive, and specifically ones in games which don't force you to use a map all the time. Not having a map/having a limited map makes you enjoy game worlds so much more.

This is why I liked AC3's map so much. The frontier was fucking amazing, you could proper get lost in it. I'm hoping Unity will match or exceed world size and have a great sense of adventure due to the intricacy of Paris' layout.

Goh: see the edit to my previous message! I noticed too late...

Heh, that may be, but have you seen the subtitles? It's got random words capitalised and I can't see why. I doubt it's some CoD: Black Ops secret first letter related shenanigans because it's too numerous. I don't even understand how someone could write it like that...

Yeah; I noticed it and thought it was distinctly German capitalization. But English speakers who do not know a single word of German capitalize random nouns all the time in informal writing. My guess is that the text was put together by an intern or other semi-skilled-but-not-skilled-enough writer who fucked them up because s/he didn't know any better.
