TheMightyEthan
Oh, I thought him freaking out and falling over backward, and his friend cracking up in the background were also part of it. But anyway, if I ever get a VR headset I'm definitely putting googly eyes on it.
TheFlyingGerbil
There is nothing that isn't better with googly eyes on it.
TheFlyingGerbil
Does anyone with a PSVR still think it was a good purchase? There doesn't seem that much to do with it.
Thursday Next
Yes! I've had a constant trickle of games that I've been enjoying on it. Was just introducing my sister (who also has one) to I Expect You To Die (which is getting more content soon) and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes this weekend. Edit: I also finally solved the HDR throughput problem with a switch box and a couple more cables. There doesn't seem that much to do with it. Grabbed one a few weeks ago for my partner and she absolutely loves it. She's spent the majority of her free-time playing though Astrobot which she's decided to try and platinum (testament to how great that game is). I've also grabbed Moss and plan on giving that a look when I've gotten through Destiny 2. Honestly, as an easy entry point into VR, it's kind of great. It's not perfect though. I'm not sure whats going on with Move controllers. They're insanely expensive and I'm assuming thats because they're not producing them anymore? Just re-packaging the ones they've got laying around after the Move flopped. It's a real shame too as I'm kinda desperate to play SuperhotVR and Space Pirate Trainer; both which require Move controllers. Thanks Sony. TheMightyEthan
They're probably not likely to start producing more either, as I understand PSVR isn't doing super great.
Mister Jack
They laughed when I bought the PS Move, but WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?! Also, PSVR has sold at least 3 million headsets so far.
danielpholt
I thought otherwise. Its taken a while to kick into (ahem) gear...........................................(it's a GearVR joke) but its starting to get a foothold. 2018 was a pretty decent year for PSVR all told. Mister Jack
I bought a PSVR a good while ago but I had never really used it that much for two main reasons: 1) I am prone to motion sickness 2) The headset itself was pretty uncomfortable to wear I really wanted to be able to play Walking Dead when it went on sale though so I ended up trying two remedies that ended up making a huge difference. The first was wearing acupuncture bands on my wrists to control my nausea. I know that sounds like homeopathic bullcrap and 99% of the time I'd be right there with you but they really do work. Before trying them I could only play in VR for 30 to 45 minutes before I started to feel queasy. After putting them on, however, I played for three and a half hours with no issues. I did take the headset off briefly about halfway through to make some adjustments but at no point was I worried about getting sick. If you want to play VR but you get motion sick, give those bands a try. They're about 10 to 15 dollars for a pair and they're a miracle. I've heard it also helps if you have a fan on while you play. I don't know if that's true but I figured it couldn't hurt to try it. The second issue was mostly because of the silicone light shield. The headset itself isn't too heavy or tight or anything, I just really hated how that rubbery piece of garbage would rub up against my face and especially my nose. No matter what I could never adjust it to a degree where it felt comfortable so I finally just took the whole damn thing off and it made a huge difference. I'm sure you may be thinking that having light come in your peripheral vision would break your immersion, but I would argue that having your face feel uncomfortable the whole time you play is equally disruptive to your immersion. Taking it off just made sense for me and when I'm engrossed in a game I'm not really thinking about what's happening in the corner of my eyes anyway. Taking off the light shield also prevents the lenses from getting fogged up by your breathing, so there's another reason to try taking it off. Just turn the lights off if you need to. Also, you don't have to permanently damage the headset to remove the shield. It's attached with pegs that fit into holes so you can just pop it off and if you decide you want it there after all just pop it back in. Removing it made the experience MUCH more comfortable for me but maybe this is one of those things that depends on the shape of your head. I dunno. Either way, I feel like I can finally get the full use out of my headset that I wanted to get when I bought it.
TheMightyEthan
I was really surprised that PSVR didn't make me sick, as I'm usually prone to motion sickness. I've had no issues though. I wonder if taking off the light shield also helped with your motion sickness, by letting your brain see the real environment around you, which will of course match the movement sensations in your inner ear, that might lessen the effect of the display. Mister Jack
Could be, although I didn't take off the shield for a couple of hours until I couldn't stand those stupid nose flaps anymore.
deanb
I'm noticing we've a few folks in PSVR renaissance. Worth loading up Rec Room some point? (I've not had anyone to join in with it). As for the flaps - do you wear glasses Jack? I'm pretty fine with them (in fact I like them), but iirc my sisters bf wasn't too keen and he doesn't wear glasses. Mister Jack
I don't wear glasses. I should mention that I use the original, launch version of the PSVR and I have heard that later versions have some slight design improvements. I don't know if the light shield was modified at all. deanb
I think the glasses might be part of it then (I believe Ethan wears glasses). As for the V1 to V2 differences - not sure if the flaps changed. The processor box is better on V2 but I would have preferred the easier access headphone port - it's a bit fiddly on the V2 with it having a dedicated head phones (which aren't great when you're sharing a headset). TheMightyEthan
The V2 doesn't have a headphone jack on the headset cable? Also, what's better about the processor box?
Mister Jack
You don't have to unplug the VR to play PS4 games in HDR. I have the V1 version and I had to buy an HDMI adapter so I could avoid having to go back behind the tv every time I wanted to switch between HDR and VR. Mister Jack
Man I feel like a dumbass. I was having a really hard time with the tracking for Walking Dead and then it occurred to me that I recently got a new tv with a different height. My PS Camera was sitting on top of my old tv and is sitting on top of this one now but I never considered how that might affect the tracking. I recalibrated everything and now it's working just fine. Thursday Next
I should probably do the same. How do you calibrate it? It's ages since I did that. It seems to work ok, but better is better.
TheMightyEthan
On PS5 when the PSVR is connected you can go into settings>accessories>PSVR and there's an option to calibrate. I assume it's similar on PS4 but I haven't actually done it myself.
Mister Jack
@Thursday Next Settings > Devices > PSVR if you're doing it on the PS4. That's also where you go to adjust the camera, which is a separate setting.
