Playstation VR

It looks like London Studio, the developer that made Blood and Truth for the PSVR, have posted job listings for their next VR project. They also posted listings specifically for "next gen hardware." While it's possible they might be making a normal PS5 game and a separate PS4 VR game, I think it's much more likely that they're working on something to present with the next iteration of the PSVR.

The above discussion about glasses prompted me to try it without mine (I'm far sighted, really only need glasses for stuff that's close-up, and counterintuitively the lenses for the screen strapped to your face have a long focal length, so as far as the lenses in your eyes are concerned you're looking at something far away), and I actually like it better. The light shield actually seals against my face, which makes it much more immersive.

You don't have to unplug the VR to play PS4 games in HDR. I have the V1 version and I had to buy an HDMI adapter so I could avoid having to go back behind the tv every time I wanted to switch between HDR and VR.

What kind of adapter do you have? I think I'd play it more if I didn't have to switch out HDMI cables every time.

I still have to unplug cables. It's just less of a hassle with the adapter. It's basically a dongle that has two female HDMI ports. When I want to play in HDR, I unplug the cables from the box and plug them into that. It's still more inconvenient than I wish it was, but it prevents me having to go behind the tv or the PS4.

I used this, connected hdmi from PS4 to the input, then output one went into the PSVR and output 2 into the TV. Just had to flick the switch to choose between HDR on TV or PSVR. But obviously requires 2 more HDMI cables so the rat king was even more ratty and kingly.

At the time I struggled to find a switch that (a) Actually switched between inputs, rather than just splitting, and (b) didn't require power (and therefore even more cables).

I realize there are probably only two people here who fit this criteria but has anyone with both a PS5 and a PSVR tried playing a game that uses the Move controllers? I don't know if I'm imagining it but I tried out Skyrim for a few minutes just to make sure everything was functioning as it should be and I swear it felt like the tracking was better on the PS5 even though it was using the same camera and controllers. I don't know if the extra power in the console actually gives it a boost somehow or if I'm just experiencing a placebo effect because I have a shiny new console.

I should mention I did not have a PS4 Pro before getting the PS5. I was still using the regular model.

I think the single-wire aspect of PSVR2, and the inside-out tracking, rather than outside-in, will be revelatory. No ridiculous numbers of wires, no making sure the camera is angled right and that you don't leave its view, just plug it in and go. I hadn't used my PSVR for several months because it was such a PITA to hook up. I wasn't leaving it hooked up because between the box and the camera it used both the USB ports on the back of the PS5, which meant I had to disconnect my external SSD and headphone dongle, and because the box doesn't support HDR pass-through, so if I left it connected I couldn't play other games in HDR. That meant every time I wanted to play VR I had to pull the PS5 out of the cabinet, disconnect the external, the dongle, and the HDMI, connect the PSVR box, camera, and HDMI, then reverse the process when I was done, so I just didn't do it. I finally found a cheap USB hub that will work with the Playstation Camera, and an HDMI switch that works in reverse (one input switched between two outputs), so now all I have to do is plug the headset into the box and hit a button on the switch and I'm all good to go, making me 1000x more likely to actually do it. sounds like PSVR2 solves all of those problems.

It's definitely a possibility. You can use PSVR with Windows, but the tracking through the camera doesn't work, so you only have relative tracking and not absolute, and it tends to drift pretty quickly, but PSVR2 has inside-out tracking so it may not have that issue.

PSVR 2 is launching at $549.99. If you want it bundled with Horizon that's 599 US dollars. That is...a lot to ask. I didn't think it was going to end up costing more than a PS5. Kinda making me glad I decided to splurge on a Quest 2. I still want a PSVR 2, but I'm not feeling so sure about getting one at launch anymore.
