Saturnine Tenshi
This looks so fun. And at such a bad time for me, too.
deanb
A tad more polished gameplay trailer than previous.
Mr. GOH!
Looks good. The Giant Bomb Quick Look really made me feel like it was safe for me to preorder.
deanb
I'm 7 minutes into the video so far, it's looking like the start up options are pretty neat (compared to just picking a civ/leader).

deanb
So the Washington Post tried to take the Civ BE backstory of why we're leaving Earth seriously and it's all kinds of stupid. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2014/10/24/the-wacky-geopolitics-of-civilization-beyond-earth/
Vecha
I couldn't get more than half way through that article. Jesus.
Baconrath
So far my biggest frustration is with the health system. The only game I have been able to avoid sinking into negative health was when I played as (Harmony) Space France and steamrolled culture into the green Virtues that give you health (and I had set it back to Sputnik difficulty- not sure if that makes any difference). Every other game it just seems to punish me for expanding and then I can't do fuck all to improve it no matter how many +1 health buildings or Biowells I have. I guess I'm doing something wrong then? Mr. GOH!
I think the game is designed so that expansionist civs get kinda stuck in the first tier of negative health since the penalties aren't all that bad.I worry when I get -10 or less health. deanb
I had issues on my playthrough as a Harmony when I first started where my Health dropped, but there was other conflicting issues too (hence my initial "I don't want to remark on it" at first). My second playthrough as Supremacy-come-Purity-come-Harmony I had about 90+ (maybe 100+, I was aiming for an achievement if such a one existed) health and you get a fair few bonuses there (which make up for lack of Golden Ages). And yeah, Civ series has always had issues where expansionist civ, which gets boons from extra income of gold and the like, would have issues with happiness. The Virtues can help with issues of negative happiness-per-capita. Baconrath
I had the Emancipation Gate up but I hadn't realized you had to stuff 1000 combat strength worth in units one at a time once per turn and then Space France won with a Mind Flower.
deanb
You should try the Beacon. At least the Gates can be pumped full of pretty powerful units to speed along (same as build the right buildings to power the Mindflower). The Beacon victory takes 30 turns, regardless of how much excess gold you're making. I think a few folks are hoping that'll be tweaked, cos otherwise you're somewhat boned for 30 turns. Baconrath
I tried playing this using the AMD mantle and all it did so far was display it on my second monitor while pretending to run it on my primary. Kinda weird.
Mr. GOH!
They've really made the various Wonder/quest victories tough and drawn-out. I keep losing because some civ on the other side of the planet completes their beacon or mindflower victories first. Maybe next time I will just attack everyone from the get-go.
