TheMightyEthan
Why are you switching entirely to digital if your internet is slow enough that you expect it to take that long to download?
Strangelove
I just like having access to all my games at once. And PS4 games all install entirely to your HDD, so it's still taking up space. Might as well not have to deal with discs. The Vita and the PS4 just made switching between games and media really smooth and fast. In comparison, Id never do this on PS3.
TCP
I'll be interested in seeing how soon you can start playing Infamous after you start downloading it, I haven't really seen this feature in use yet.
Strangelove
Well, I downloaded Injustice and was able to play some of it maybe 20% into the download. Not that it was worth it though, I could only use a handful of characters and training or vs only, no story mode.

Strangelove
Jesus Christ....we got a lot of addicts here. As long as you didn't have to give any blowjobs for it, it's not so sad.
TheMightyEthan
I think it's pretty sad. That is one hell of a ripoff of a game, from everything I've heard. Should have been at most like $15. *Disclaimer - I have not played it, and the reports about it could easily be wrong.
Strangelove
Well, were console owners. Its what we do. we get ripped off on inferior machines. Seriously though, we've been without a new MGS game for over 6 years. Thats the longest gap between MGS games theres ever been. We need our fix. Alex Heat
If it helps, mine only costed me $15 plus tax.

TCP
$30 for a 10 hour game isn't bad, I've payed more for less before.
TheMightyEthan
10 hours? I've been hearing 2. Counting the side stuff.
TCP
Otherwise, I was happily enticed by Ground Zeroes’ world for a good eight to ten hours. Finding each ‘XOF’ patch to unlock the console-specific side missions - which are both brief, but full of nostalgic pleasure - was a surprisingly tense and entertaining way to replay the main mission, while beating in-game trials, speed runs and finding rare unlockables became seductive prospects once I had familiarised myself with Omega Base. Score-chasers might be the only ones to find long-lasting appeal in Ground Zeroes, but there’s certainly plenty of content here to satisfy. Via someone I've never heard of from IGN. toxicitizen
Yeah, that sounds more like the person got 10 hours out of the game total. As in, completing absolutely all optional stuff (I mean, time trials? What?) and collectables. Also sounds like it was across more than a single run. That's not the game's length, that's its replay value. Edited March 18, 2014 by FLD
TCP
10 hours of content = 10 hour game, FLD. 10 hour main story is something different, and clearly GZ is not that.
TheMightyEthan
I'd say it's somewhere in the middle. IMO the "game length" is the amount of time the average player will get out of it before moving on to something else.
TCP
THIS IS THE WORST ARGUMENT EVER!!! GAAAWWWWWWDDDDDD!! It all comes down to how much $30 is worth to you. Personally, I think this was a good move from Konami from a business perspective, they know people are excited for next-gen games and they know Metal Gear fans are suckers, so there's two audiences they can get purchasing this. toxicitizen
You're missing the point, Cowboy. Game length is the time it'll take the average player to complete it, not the time the most hardcore players will get out of it. Assassin's Creed II is a 20ish hours game at best. It took me maybe twice that long to platinum it, though. But that's not a good indicator of most players' experience with it. Most of them won't bother wasting hours getting all the collectables and shit. And that's exactly why game length is a terrible metric to use when it comes to judging a game's value. I'm fine paying 20$ for a 2-3 hours game that has 10 hours worth of content. Plus, this is a fucking Metal Gear title. You just know it's top-notch AAA quality regardless of length. I'm willing to pay a small premium for that. I'll be grabbing the PS3 version off PSN tonight. Edited March 18, 2014 by FLD
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I put something north of 350 hours into Fallout 3, but I'd never claim it was a 350 hour game.
CorgiShinobi
Speaking of time and value, at GDC there was a talk on completion rates in story-driven games. Games where you'd assume a majority of people would stick through to the bare minimum of simple completion. Most of the games listed, like BioShock Infinite and Mass Effect were a little below 50%! I know I have games where when I payed only a little, I'm more likely to forget finishing it. Thing is, these were AAA titles that you can only assume people payed either full or closely to full retail to end up half-finished. I'll get Ground Zeroes when I have a PS4, probably this summer, as I would like everything "MGSV" on one platform. It may very well still be at the $30 price, but as FLD said, it's a premium of sorts to play a highly anticipated AAA sort of game. Besides, it'll give me some time to finish up some other games and maybe get to Peace Walker too.
TheMightyEthan
Maybe I should revise my definition: the "length of the game" is the average amount of time a player who actually finishes the game spends on it before moving on to something else. For games that can be finished anyway. But yeah, while length may be a good measure for some games, it's definitely not for others.
toxicitizen
That's kind of implied. If you haven't finished the game then your playtime is completely irrelevant when discussing its length. but as FLD said, it's a premium of sorts to play a highly anticipated AAA sort of game. Well, I mostly meant that in the sense that the levels polish and production values justify a slight premium. I expect a mainline Metal Gear Solid title to look and play significantly better than most downloadable games would. edit: Bought it off PSN for the lower price. I'd love a physical copy for my collection but 35$ for a physical copy of this? Hahahahaha, no. Besides, when The Phantom Pain finally comes out, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't some form of MGSV: Complete Edition available that includes GZ+TPP. I'll get a physical copy of that one. Also a PS4 between now and then. That should probably come first. Anyway, download's not going very fast so I probably won't be playing it tonight. I was thinking of starting Deadly Premonitions soon but Deus Ex: The Fall unlocked a week early on Steam for some reason. So that should keep me busy for tonight.
