Mr. GOH!
I bet they wanted to keep Bruce Wayne as Batman and Bale is too expensive/unwilling to return. They also clearly want to have the Joker feature as a villain in the DCU and did not want to try to have a different actor ape Ledger's excellent and unique performance. I understand why they're rebooting Batman, and it could be okay in theory. What makes it shit is that everything Snyder touches is shit, is all. Also, Afleck is way too doofy to play Bruce Wayne. TheMightyEthan
I feel like Afleck could do fine as Bruce Wayne, what I'm concerned about is his Batman.
Thursday Next
He makes for a pretty chubs Batman. Doesn't look like he'll be soaring over many rooftops. It'll hurt like billy-o when he lands on you though.
deanb
Even more when his cars lands on top of both of you immediately after. Batman was never really a hugely slim build. And he carries it well under a tuxedo as Wayne. His Wayne seems quite young mind. Especially considering this is a retired post-Todd Batman too. Unless his career only spanned a few years. His Batman does seem pretty menacing mind, quite a bit more "raw" than the almost Iron-Batman of recent Nolanverse n Arkahm Knight.
Thursday Next
In this side by side... Batfleck/Fatman looks way "bulkier"... than Bale's version to me.
deanb
Yeah, not disputing that he looks bulkier, just that Bales is by most quite slim. The Dark Knight Returns Batman is the bulkiest of the lot Slim is usually reserved for the Robins/Joker with which to juxtapose Batman against. He's meant to be peak physical fitness, quite a muscley fella that can pack a wallop when he strikes. Even the thugs in Arkham Knight reference that he packed quite a punch as Bruce Wayne. Hot Heart
Some collected thoughts. Batman v. Superman would've made sense as, like, an 'end of an era' film with a bunch of history behind it, which seemed how the comic was. Using it as a springboard for a whole Justice League thing after the tepid Man of Steel seems weird. Bale would actually work as Batman because he'd be coming out of retirement (and hiding) reluctantly, but I don't think it really fits the style or tone either. I'm sure an interesting take could be found, but I'd rather the Nolan trilogy stand as its own thing. As for Suicide Squad, yeah, it looks lame. Also, the Joker "reveal" is crap. At least give him a good line, not some generic crap any goon would say.
deanb
Yeah I have no idea how this is meant to lead into a Justice League film unless it just does this:

deanb
Trying to get a hold of "The Death of Superman Lives". Nicolas Cage as Superman, and Burton doing a Superman is the reality of a different universe. We instead got Bryan Singer and Ghost Rider. Personally I preferred the more whacky suits they came up with, sheets of oiley-metalic plastic with embedded LEds n such, meant to make him "alien". Mr. GOH!
And don't forget Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (colloquially known as "Ghost Rider 2"). A gift to comic book fans, Marvel fans, and cinema. Edited July 15, 2015 by Mr. GOH!
Mister Jack
So what does everyone make of this "Suicide Squad Joker is Jason Todd" theory? If you ask me, I think everyone's in denial.
TCP
That sounds terrible .......which makes me believe it.
deanb
I guess it'd explain why he has branded himself, and also the Jason Todd outfit in the BvS trailer.
Mr. GOH!
I think the theory makes sense to me because the original Joker should be Batman's age, roughly (though, yes, the Burton Batman Joker was much older), so a second Joker who was Jason Todd makes the age discrepancy make more sense. Edit: Nevermind; Afleck is actually younger than Leto. I guess Leto just looks young, to me. I think this makes it more likely Leto is playing the original Joker. But I have no idea whether the rumor is true. I also assume that BvS and Suicide Squad do not take place in the Nolanverse. Edited July 27, 2015 by Mr. GOH! TCP
Looks like Mark Hamill is voicing the Joker in The Killing Joke movie. Uuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh Mark why are you attaching your name to this project?!? When will DC learn this misogynist garbage is not what we I, as fans a fan, want?? Thursday Next
Agree with the sentiment completely. TKJ should be consigned to history, but I always get antsy about using "We" when "I" is more appropriate.
TCP
Are you saying I don't speak for everyone??
Thursday Next
Well I can't speak for everyone else on whether or not you speak for everyone else, and based on a sample size of "me" you do speak for everyone. That said. Yes, I think there is a probability approaching 0 that you speak for all of DC fandom.
Mr. GOH!
No matter how shitty a thing is, there will be at least some people who expect it, like it, enjoy it, advocate for it, are willing to die for it. You could pull a True Scotsman fallacy and just claim to speak for the sane or real fans, though, TCP.
CorgiShinobi
Need to look back at Killing Joke if Cowboy and GOH are on the same side. I always warn people that while the Joker may be this iconic and top-notch villain, you have to tread lightly because he has a scale of party clown to epitome of humanity's evil. The New 52 Joker earlier this year cut off Alfred's right hand and danced with the corpse of Martha Wayne. So sure, Animated Series Joker was a riot, but watch yo self 'round the graphic novels. Hell, if you listened to the audio tapes in A Matter of Family DLC for Arkham Knight, you'd realize how manipulative and toxic Joker can be even under a different persona.
TCP
GOH and I are always on the same side. 100% of the time. We literally never disagree.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I like the Joker from the Arkham series; he presents a persona very similar to TAS, but still does really dark, terrible things that the kid's show version wouldn't be able to.
Mr. GOH!
I like the Arkham games' Joker except that I never bought into Joker injecting himself with TITAN. It seems to me that Joker wouldn't mutate himself like that.
