CorgiShinobi
Obviously it'll be called Bloodlife, the succession of being born from the Blood. Anyway, I just finished downloading the soundtrack from my Collector's Edition (with the sexy artbook and steelcase) and I think it's about time to be: Be born by the Blood, be made a man by the blood, and be undone by the Blood. Popular Post TCP
OH MAN THIS GAME. THIS FUCKING GAME! Ok so backstory: I played about 5 minutes of Demons Souls and maybe an hour of Dark Souls, and obviously neither of those games ever captured me. I found them both a little sluggish and while I knew if I devoted the time to these games I'd probably get into them, there was just too many other games on PS3 at that point. Bloodborne is quicker moving, and since there isn't a plethora of games at the moment, it's also coming out at the perfect time. So anyways, I died, a lot. If this was 2011 I might have just given up, but I persevered. Finally, I got to the first boss, and somehow I emerged... VICTORIOUS! The high of beating that boss was second only to heroin.
CorgiShinobi
I look forward to your frustration from Father G. Though, if you want... I just learned last night about the Tiny Music Box. I picked it up much later, a.k.a. after the Father G. boss fight, where it could temporarily disable him three times. Trust me, that would have helped. It's also part of one of the few side quests in the game. I accidentally used the mother's brooch for the Blood Gem. That's the thing about these From Software games; the side quests can be easily missed.
Mal
From what I've seen from streams, Bloodborne is for sure a great step forward for the Souls-type of game. Hell, even TCP likes it. One thing that stuck out were the enemies. Like whoa... we're in sort of Lovecraft territory here and I love it. Fucking PS4 exclusive. TheMightyEthan
TCP's comment is the best recommendation I've seen for this game so far. I might check it out when it's cheap.
CorgiShinobi
I might check it out when it's cheap. Play it now! I mean that by what I said in my first post of this thread long ago. These Souls-type games, while excellent on their own, are also complimented by the community. The community is best joined at the beginning because eventually it turns into elitists bitching about something or other and gankers this and gankers that. Right now, newcomers are very welcome and you're sure to find friendly co-op much faster than later. Also, you'll find out handy tips and tricks much easier because everyone from newcomer to veteran is learning them. Bloodborne is a big shift in combat for Souls veterans. It was always about taking your time, learning enemy movements, and experimenting with various stats. Now you pick a weapon and rush into that giant with scythes for hands!
TheMightyEthan
I'm not spending $60 on a game when I couldn't get into the previous entries in the "series".

IDDQD
Playing Dark Souls brought me the meaning of real pain (in the ass), when I was putting my keyboard back together, key by key, after a particularly heated gaming session. Bloodborne makes me want to punch that keyboard again, because right now I'm pissed that I didn't get PS4 instead of new PC rig. I mean, fuck, this game is THE shit! Too bad it will never be released on other platforms.
MetalCaveman
PSA: You don't need the Hunter Chief Emblem to open the gate to the Grand Cathedral, you can go to Old Yharnam, defeat the boss there and it will unlock a hidden path in the Cathedral Ward. This will save you the 10k echoes it takes to buy the emblem.
CorgiShinobi
PSA: You don't need the Hunter Chief Emblem to open the gate to the Grand Cathedral, you can go to Old Yharnam, defeat the boss there and it will unlock a hidden path in the Cathedral Ward. This will save you the 10k echoes it takes to buy the emblem. On the subreddit there were people saying they were experiencing a bug of some sort with skipping out on that item. I already had defeated the boss, but I wanted to be doubly sure my paths wouldn't be closed or bugged. Besides, the 10,000 mark isn't so bad when you enter later game enemies. MetalCaveman
Later on sure, but that's still pretty early in the game, also, you can use those 10k to buy the best weapon (IMO), Ludwig's Holy Blade. \m/ \m/ Also, if it's the beckoning bell "bug" all you have to do is open the main gate, then you can summon/be summoned/invade without trouble. Though the Cathedral Ward path is still recommended since you can access a secret area and get a trophy by using it.

MetalCaveman
Took me a while but I finally defeated Darkbeast Paarl Fun boss fight although its movements make it impossible to use lock on without the camera freaking out. CorgiShinobi
About that boss: I've tried a few times and I have to agree it's one where you're probably better off without using Lock-on. I first faced him when I was Lv. 29 and he two shot me. I thought tonight I'd be better prepared, and while I did a lot better, he's still a little too tough. I want to keep at it, but having to run past two witches has caused me to use a Blood Vial as sometimes one gets a lucky grab on me. In comparison, I finished the Witch of Hemwick boss fight. That got a little dicey when the entrapment spell was introduced, but I survived even when one of the witches revived. I had some trouble finding the second one while making sure not to aggro those creepy thin figures.
MetalCaveman
I didn't know there were 2 witches until after I finished that fight. Thought it was a bug because I was hitting it but the health bar didn't change. I don't think they ever revived each other though, the boss fight was over pretty quickly, and they didn't even use their spells on me. As for the Soot Monsters, I don't know what weapon you're using, but with a Ludwig's Holy Blade +6 and some fire paper it only took 3 hits to take them down. Also, for Paarl, if you use a weapon with a wide area attack (hunter's axe, cane, Holy Blade) and just rush it as soon as you enter the arena, it's easier to take him down. Though I would still recommend leveling up a bit more (took him down at level 46), you can farm the giant dudes in that area for blood echoes/twin bloodstone shards, just lure them to the stairs and they will get stuck there. They give 1500 blood echoes each with the heir rune.
CorgiShinobi
Nah, they didn't pose a real threat. It's just after killing the fifth one you realize they're endless until the boss dies. Better off to use the two ramps to avoid them and focus on the boss.
SomTervo
I just did Vicar Amelia last night. Was awesome. What a game.
Vecha
So...father Father Gascoigne. Didn't use the Music Box because I ran into the area without knowing I was about to fight him...and just didn't have the damn item equipped and was waaaaay to skiddish to try and and use it. What the hell does it do anyhow?Well, beat him. Used almost 20 potions doing so. I ended up fighting him before the first "primer" boss...because I went right past it. But when I went back to fight it, that fight turned out worse than Father G. Guess with the Father there was more space to run around in and catch him off guard. So, now I'm grinding blood echoes to gain a few levels.
MetalCaveman
The music box stuns him for a bit. Also, you can stun the Cleric Beast with 2-3 shots to the head, then you can do a visceral attack.
