Man, you guys always have to ruin everything. Why can't you just let the hostility between me and Ethan grow naturally to the point where we just start insulting each other whenever we're in the same thread?

This is why people keep leaving this forum. We just can't have fun things.

You're dumb, Ethan! You're dumb and you have a dumb face!

This is better than Sonic games... kind of.

Anyways. I too will welcome a suddenly broken singleplayer where the game for some reason throw you 2x the enemies to fight. Who know, maybe Naughty Dog will make a good AI buddy...

I think Ethan and I are approaching UC from a point of view of "Sometimes I want to play Uncharted, but I don't want to be totally antisocial." In such events, having a drop in doppleganger who can take part in the shoosting of mans and the jumpings about, would allow us to continue to play the game without our friend sitting in the corner watching it. Yes it would be half baked and immersion braking, yes sometimes your coop buddy would get stranded and have to respawn at your location and no, those things are not ideal. I only want this thrown in as an optional way to play, like it was in Resistance and Halo and Knack. The benefit of being able to play games with mates and beers outweighs the breaking of the cinematic experience.

Bear in mind that this will not effect how FLD plays at all. Unless his housemates are the types to burst into a room and grab a controller despite his protestations.

Yeah... no one said anything even remotely like that.

Yeah, if 2x enemies pop out of the monster closets, then that should only happen while you are cooping. I'm not suggesting single player change at all, barring that a reskinned DrakeBro be dropped in to the game so that I can play with a buddy.

In my ideal world, the game would have an entirely optional coop structure built from the ground up where Drake never ends up alone so that you could have less immersion breaking coop, but really, I just want to be able to have a friend drop in / out so I can keep playing. I'm able to suspend my disbelief to follow cinematics..

What kind of shitty games have you guys been playing to make you think that any devs worth a damn would actually include a coop option so half-assed that the second player constantly has to kill themselves and respawn in order to even be able to progress? Because it sure as hell wasn't Naughty Dog's games.

Your claims that the game could include full coop in the main campaign without being changed in the least aren't just false, they're starting to border on delusional. Have you guys been getting enough sleep lately? Seriously, you're starting to worry me!

Where does anyone claim this?

Have you played Knack coop? It pretty much works as described. You spawn in a second Knack. If a ledge crumbles and they fall behind then they respawn. It works fine as a way to crowbar in coop without changing the SP experience. They can join in the combat stuff, they can hop around a bit, but if they fall behind it's no great shakes.

I know you don't want this. I'm not telling you to want it. All I'm saying is that I want at least a half assed coop so that I can coop when I want to.

I'm heading out in a few mins so I don't have time to go back and reread all your posts, maybe you didn't say that specifically. But that's pretty much what I've been getting from Ethan's whole "add coop but still design around single-player" thing. My entire point isn't that I don't want this nor that you shouldn't want this, it's that I think it's not a good fit for Uncharted at all. And I would never expect Naughty Dog to include a feature as important as full campaign coop without giving it serious consideration during the game's entire design process.

I have not played Knack, no. But are you seriously comparing a cartoony platformer to a highly cinematic action adventure game that has a realistic visual style and a heavy focus on presentation? Because I don't think there's a lot of validity to that comparison. You can get away with a lot of silly nonsense with a cartoony game.

Single Player Action / Puzzle / Platform game vs Single Player Action / Puzzle / Platform game. Aesthetics aside, there are a lot of similarities. In both games you either have to fight off a wave of enemies, solve a puzzle, or complete a (sometimes crumbly) platform section to continue. These are both broken up on occasion by cut scenes, you even have sections where you have to leave an ageing fatty behind to go do some athletic stuff.

The fact that ND use a more photo-realistic aesthetic or focuses on a (really not amazing) plot is neither here nor there. I primarily play Uncharted games for the fun of the game mechanics, not for the cinematics. If I could have a friend drop in on that too, so much the better.

Okay, but the real question is WHY DO YOU CARE?  If they gave TN and I what we want we would be happy, and it would literally not detract one single bit from your play, so why are you opposed to that?

I don't? I mean, I personally don't care about coop but it's not like I'm fundamentally opposed to it. My entire argument is that I don't think the overly simplistic implementation you're describing would ever happen. It's the alternative I'm opposed to, which is having the forced inclusion of coop dictate the design of my single-player experience. It's happened before with series I love so maybe I'm a little more defensive than I should be but THAT'S what I've been saying from the very start.

Eh, fair enough but we're just gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. It's just that, based on what I know about them, I feel like Naughty Dog is the kind of studio that puts careful consideration into every single aspect of their games. Being highly cinematic isn't just a thing Uncharted does, it's one of the core aspect of the series. And I honestly think that a cartoony aesthetic does give you some leeway as far as breaking immersion goes.

Besides, The Last of Us is basically a 15 hours long escort quest, and they didn't put coop in that. I kinda feel like that says a lot about where their priorities are. If they were to make a coop game, they wouldn't half-ass it.

Well if that's all your point is then I agree with you: it probably won't happen.  And I also agree that I don't want them to change the core of the game to cater to coop either.  I just would like the half-assed kind of coop to be an option (but again, I agree it probably won't happen).

Well this is kind of anticlimactic... Can't you at least call me an asshole or something?

I guess the only part I don't really get is how this could possibly be preferable to a dedicated co-op mode, which is actually a thing the series has been doing. And pretty decently, too.
