toxicitizen
Yay! A Platinum game that's not exclusive to a platform I don't want! I guess I should get around to watching Book 2 before this comes out.
TheMightyEthan
Too bad that tells nothing about the game.
deanb
Yeah I'm not sure if that's in-game (which going off some Naruto games I played last gen it could be) or not from the game at all. But yeah, I guess I'll maybe finally be inclined to play a game by Platinum and see what the hype is about.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, this is the first Platinum game I've had any interest in.
toxicitizen
Platinum is the only thing I'm excited about here. The Avatar license doesn't exactly have a great history when it comes to videogames.
TheMightyEthan
Well to be fair, licensed games in general don't have a great history. There's so much potential in Avatar though.
toxicitizen
Sure but usually a license will get at least one or two half decent games at some point. But, from what I can tell, every single Avatar game so far has been absolute garbage. And considering Activision still seems to have no problem whatsoever shitting out rushed licensed crap (see Amazing Spider-Man 2), this wouldn't even be on my radar if it wasn't for Platinum. I'm actually kinda shocked that they even bothered to hire them. Edited June 25, 2014 by FLD
TheMightyEthan
Sure but usually a license will get at least one or two half decent games at some point. They do? Where are these licensed games? Outside of Lego and the Arkham series.
toxicitizen
Really? Batman had some decent beat-em-ups back in the day. Matrix had at least one game that was alright (can't remember which one, it's been a while). There's been some amazing Star Wars and TMNT games. Some solid Dragon Ball games as well. Do I really need to go on? It's really not that hard to find decent licensed games. Not necessarily great or even good games, but fun and serviceable enough to be enjoyed. Basically, anything that's not rushed because it's a movie tie-in has potential. Edited June 25, 2014 by FLD
TheMightyEthan
Forgot about Star Wars, that I'll grant. But my point is good licensed games are the exception, not the rule. Pretty much everything you've listed has had tons of games made for the license, so you're bound to have one or two that are just accidentally good. And I should say that Platinum's name being attached is a decent chunk of why I'm interested, because even though I haven't liked any of Platinum's other games they're at least a "real" developer, not someone who makes shovelware. Even that's not enough for me to be optimistic, just enough for me to keep an eye on it, whereas normally with a game like this I would ignore it altogether until I heard something affirmatively positive about it. toxicitizen
Yeah, I was just pointing out that having at least one or two of those exceptions isn't all that rare but that Avatar still lacks it. That being said, looking into it a bit more it seems there hasn't been as many unique Avatar games as I thought. Turns out most of the big ones were all part of the same trilogy, so it makes sense they'd all be of similar quality, I guess. Oh God, there's also been one based on the M. Night Shyamalan live-action movie. Just... whyyyyy?
deanb
There was a movie?!?!
TheMightyEthan
No, no there wasn't. M. Night Shyamalan was killed just after finishing The Sixth Sense.
toxicitizen
Am I the only one who thinks Unbreakable was alright? Also, Signs is a guilty pleasure of mine.
TheFlyingGerbil
The biggest plot twist he will ever pull off would be making another decent film
TheMightyEthan
Actually, Signs has a special place in my heart, because I went to see it with an easily scared girl...
TCP
Awwweeee yeaaah Ethan got lucky to Signs. Good licensed games are few and far between, this one has the benefit of not launching with the TV and having a capable developer behind it. I remain hopeful. CorgiShinobi
I'm thrilled and cautious at the same time, and this is coming from someone who loves both Legend of Korra and Platinum Games. Reading through the IGN article, it's action (rightly so) and set between Book Two and Three, so expect story of some sort. There will be a turn-based strategy game on 3DS, but imagine if that ended up being the superior licensed game. Also went ahead and voted for the cover on Facebook. As it's being touted as a downloadable game, it's probably not that big of a deal. I want to freak out in joy, but part of me remembers the terrible The Last Airbender licensed games (though some fans enjoyed one of them, I think Into the Inferno).

RobDaCool
No game play footage? Ah well, I've not even seen one episode of Korra, need to watch it. Netflix will probably NOT have it lol

CorgiShinobi
IGN had a livestream of many of the games at SDCC and one of them happened to be Legend of Korra! It's both gameplay footage and developer Q&A. Haven't finished the whole thing yet, 13 minutes and all, but I wanted to share.
Waldorf and Statler
That doesn't look half bad gameplay wise actually. Definitely will get for the right price since it's a downloadable game.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this.
