Introduce Yourself

I never realized that this form was still running! I remember when Dean proposed it on Kotaku, and in my mind it became sort of the Kotaku alums site. I figured I'd join so here I am. A lot of you probably don't remember me, so I guess I'll re-introduce myself. I'm Living_Target, and it's nice to be here.

@:LivingTarget: Wait h ow old are you(on kotaku, not age). I "proposed" idea of the forum years n years back (about 3 to be exact. Yup Steam says three.). This place is the final form now. Gone from "TAY forum" on Freeforums.org to X-talk/PXOD on Invision. All they way from a fan forum to a place with a somewhat popular (though less so as people stop reading) "Fucking Kotaku" thread. How things change over the years.

So for those following from home we've gone from:

talkamongstyourselves.freeforums.org

To a minor stint as

tay.gappoi.org

And then over a year or so ago to save cash (single domain n hosting and the sites were similar) combined my also 3 year old Pressxordie.com gaming blog a few of us kotakuites ran with the forum. Leading to the current X-Talk. Which given everything is now owned and, beyond recurring costs, paid for it shall likely remain as PXOD/x-talk combo. Opens up some extra opportunities too and unlike the freeforums we have complete control over the posts(As you'll see if you hop over to where the freeforums site used to be, they've since wiped it all). You'll still see the odd few "TAY" titled post around actually, like so, so there's bits of it around. But for the most part it is now n for rest of time X-talk. New site, new community, but for 90% or so of users gota common background in kotaku over the years.

So yeah, mini forum history for those that cared for it and were maybe confused on where that red n orange place from years back went to n what this place is.

A lot of folks moving around all over the place.

Recent changes made me realize how few decent options there really are for discussing games. Sure, there are some hardcore fans of specific genres and IPs that have places to go to. But for other gamers, ones that love the craft and want to discuss in detail, there really are few places that offer this.

Some forums tend to circle the same discussions (like the Piracy argument, that's a dead horse), so it's important to have new content, new topics to discuss.

There's a sound bunch of rational gamers here, so that's a nice safe spot for basically talking games, but I still think something's are missing.

Hopefully you pleasant folk who put together the content can work something out, so that more of the discussions can actually center around the articles that get posted here.

Anyway... I kinda digress, making this a little off topic...sorry bout dat.

I actually joined the forums at freeforums. Twice. Under entirely different names. But I've never been active. I was looking for some community to post to so I went there once and it's empty and it says we moved here so I signed up again. I stopped reading Kotaku (regularly) a long time before joining here. Glad the old forum was still up with a link here.

So yeah, hi. I'm an exile from Kotaku as I hear many of you guys are as well. The last straw was yesterday with the new comment system and not begin able to login with either my old handle (the one I have here), or the two new handles I had to create when they removed the old system. All three of these also seem to have no profile anymore. Fun.

Anyway, looking forward to having a bunch of awesome discussions with you guys.

PS. Fuck Kotaku. :D

I think the history of all accounts went away, or is archived. I can only see one post I did on Gawker a couple of weeks ago. My legacy is gone!

Whaaaaat?! Motherf-

...didn't they know I had a star? A STAR!

I haven't gone to Kotaku for ages, but I still liked knowing my little star was there... I'm gonna miss that guy...

I've never seen an influx of new users like this! In the interest of not flooding this thread with greeting spam, welcome, all of you! If even half of you become active users, this is gonna change things up! Cool.

I made sure to use mine up before I left... It was worth it, to call Joel out for calling the Razer Blade laptop "[not just] the future of PC gaming - it may be the future of PCs."

:bun-headkb:

I mean, he fawned all over that thing (which seems to have failed utterly to make any impression on the market) like he wanted to have its babies, and I've never seen such a negative response in the comments, but he seemed genuinely shocked to think someone would suspect him of paid editorial... or he was just mad he was caught so easily. Sadly since Gawker depends on unique visitor impressions, that was probably one of the most successful articles ever... and that's when I knew there was no place at the site for me.

Though I got my first star back when it was network-wide, and lost it when it was site-wide, so I still had one everywhere else after that... but then in a while they required third party logins to comment, so I never went back to a Gawker site.

Ah, it's my fellow KOTOR 2 brother.

Word! Arok Lazarus won't sign up here, and he's the one person on Kotaku who I talk about KoTOR and KoTOR2 all day with, over and over again. I have tried, but he won't do it. So, for our gaming news, we are going to Giantbomb. I just need to get over there and give up Kotaku permanently.

I made the jump to Polygon. That place seems pretty cool, and Crecente and Mcwhertor seem better off for it.
