An Industry Doomed...

The reason I'm cynical is because I only see these things getting worse.  They may not bother you much now but are you so sure they won't become a major problem five or ten years down the line?  Hell, it's even happening right now.  The Phantom Pain microtransactions weren't such a big deal...until they patched the game so that anyone who ISN'T playing online loses a huge chunk of GMP each time they start the game.  Oh, and they just so happened to start offering paid FOB insurance around the same time.  You can't possibly tell me that these two things aren't connected.

Cut content?  Just compare EA's Battlefront to Battlefront II.  The released game won't even have half as much content as the previous game, but they're trying to get you to pay up to 120 dollars for it.  It's disgusting.  Also, while I haven't played it myself, I'm hearing talk that Halo 5's multiplayer options have been completely neutered compared to Halo 2.  I'm hearing that they took out the popular Infection mode.  Hell, I hear you can't even create it with custom rules like how it originally started.  I don't know for sure yet if that's true or not, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised.

I probably have more to add on this but I'm about to leave for work.  Basically, the point I'm making is that I am not as optimistic as you are about these things.

There's a lot of games with cut content and no, this wasn't always a thing. Back in the day any additional content for the game was developed way after the initial release, usually only when said game had a huge success and the expansion packs were more like a separate game. Nowadays bonus content is being shoved down our throats for additional buck even before the actual game is released. Remember Evolve? What a shitty business practice that was. Incidentally, I wonder how that game performed.

And I'm with you on that, but there's one solution that you can reasonably follow (assuming you're not interested in starting a revolution over this) - have none of this bullshit. I'm more than happy to give my money to someone like CDProjekt for their efforts with the Witcher franchise, but when it comes to any other companies and their shady business practices, no thanks, I'll keep my dosh.

Software development is hard  :bun-wah:

This seriously cannot be stressed enough. As someone currently learning all about it, it's something I really wish more gamers would understand. That whole "lazy dev" accusation that people like to throw around so much? I've come to realize just how truly fucking ridiculous it actually is.

Sure but sometimes the devs do back themselves into a corner. Devs should be very careful to not promise the stars and to avoid feature creep. The vision of the game should be quite firm and realistic. It's okay to be iterative, especially if coming from a series.

As for lazy devs... porting is some place that can apply a bit more often though it sometimes comes down to experience. Not sure if it applies to the Batman games though...

http://venturebeat.com/2016/08/22/july-2016-npd-summer-game-drought-continues

After 33 months cumulative sales of PS4 and Xbone are 41% ahead of PS360 at the same point in their lifespan.

Only 41?  Why not 42?  IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!  IT'S ALL DOOMED!  DOOMED!  DOOOOOOOOOMED!

If you really want a good laugh, check out a certain former poster's Twitter page. He has some incredible anti-feminist rants on there. It's delightful! Plus, I see he has a top 10 worst films of 2016, scrolling through the thumbnails you can see it includes such terrible films as The Revenant (2015), Star Wars The Force Awakes (2015), and "Fembusters".
