Vecha
Anyone see it? Has over 90% at Metacritic AND Rotten Tomatoe...But I was kind of let down :/Soooo many reviewers kept saying, "it makes you think! It is different from a blockbuster!"But I felt the plot was really ham-fisted with extremely obvious overtones....starting first with the costumes/characteristics that felt like the Hunger Games showed up for a visit.I really liked most of the actors, I just felt...something was off. Either the writing...Or fuck, maybe I'm a sociopath. I had absolutely no feelings for anyone in the film. Maybe, I watched it at the wrong time.Liked to hear what you think.I guess I'd recommend it. It was...interesting at least. And most people AND reviewers seem to like it. So, maybe you're not a sociopath and you'll enjoy it! Connorrrr
I'm intrigued by it but it doesn't appear to be showing in the UK yet? Certainly not where I live (we've got one cinema and it's pretty bad at showing some films). I have heard that the themes are really obvious but that it's still fairly good, so I'd quite like to see it.
TheMightyEthan
I've never even heard of it...
Connorrrr
The trailer is pretty good but even with that, you can see where the plot is going a mile away.
danielpholt
Had a big debate on twitter regarding this film yesterday. It's been out in Asia for like 2 years at this point, but only recently got a N. American release; a UK release is yet to be as much as confirmed, which sucks for obvious reasons. I'm not sure it's going to kill at the box-office, but all those in the know seem to think it's an absolute gem of a film. It'll come out over here, probably in very very limited release (i hear it got like 4 theatres in the US before 'blowing up' to 140), so chances are I'll have to hold off for a Blu ray release in the next..6 years. I'm willing to give them my money, why won't they take it?
Vecha
What did you debate about?
danielpholt
How long before it becomes okay to pirate a film if it's not been released in your country. I really want to see this film, and I'll wait, but if 3 years after its initial release we still don't see a UK release, is it okay to go the pirate route? One guy was totally against piracy, which is..nice if a little too moralistic for my liking. Most seemed to be on the side of the argument that's a little more consumer friendly; we want to give you money for this, but you're making it practically impossible (aside from traveling abroad, or getting a foreign player, with foreign discs), to let me give you money, thus I'm going to download it.
TheMightyEthan
I'm fine with pirating things that the producer doesn't feel inclined to sell you. If they want my money they can make it available for my purchase in a reasonable fashion, I don't feel obligated to bend over backwards to find a way to pay them though.
Vecha
Yeah, I'd pirate it.Totally agree with you both on that subject.Plus, if you really love the movie...buy it once(if ever) it's released. After I've had a few days to think about the movie, I feel it had some good points. It's action packed, you really get a sense of claustrophobia, and it's a lot better than most "blockbusters" these days. Makes me want to read the graphic novel to see if it's any better. My wife said this, "This would have been a lot better as an Anime." Man, she is sooo right. She said she read somewhere that some feel it's racist against Japanese(I added White people to that BECAUSE THEY BLEW EM ALL UP! lol kidding) Supposedly, since the Koreans and Japanese don't have the best of relationships...there is the some scene(don't remember) where the main Korean star kills one of Japanese-Hitler guys. Whatever. Just thought I'd add that for you guys to laugh at. Racist for a guy killing another guy in a movie about killing guys. Guess I'm a bigot. IDDQD
Saw it during christmas. I liked it because similarly to other Korean-produced pictures, it's vicious as hell. Saying that it makes you think is a bit of a stretch, since the biggest themes going on here were done like a milion times before and Snowpiercer brings nothing new to the table - just another critique of human society and social segregation. Still, I'd rather watch movies like this, insead of just another run-of-the-mill post apocalyptic action flick.
TheMightyEthan
My wife and brother-in-law and I watched it over Christmas too. Entertaining, but weird as shit.

I guess you could think about how desperate you'd become, but like you said...not much is new to that. @ethan Totally agree.
