The Trailer Thread

Honestly, I want this to be a great film. It has great potential, but at the same time it bugs me. It seems like the reason there has to be two pilots is because you need one for each arm given the controls for one arm take up a pilot's torso. It just seems like an unnecessary step to make this giant mech movie different from other giant mech movies/shows.

What I had read didn't say they were getting rid of it, just that they were toning down how much it actually sounds like GLaDOS.

*Edit* - Is it weird that the thing that killed my immersion in that trailer was the giant robot swinging that cargo ship around?  I was like "Man, that thing would break in half if you tried to lift it from one end like that."

Good, someone else posted the new trailer.

The only thing that still bugs me is that stupid "mind meld" plot point. It simply reeks of gimmick, but as it's in a summer blockbuster, I might be able to overlook it. Thing is, I'm sure it'll play some pivotal role in the so called "character development."

Why is it stupid? You haven't even given the movie a chance to explain why it requires two pilots man. I mean before the age of Gundam I'm sure somebody said "why are those robots humanoid and wielding laser swords and have a face?"

No, that was always cool.

It's simply an out of place plot point that, to me, has great potential to muddle an otherwise awesome movie. We've seen TV series and movies where there are two pilots, but this business of "fusing two minds, memories, and feelings" isn't necessary for something with giant monsters and giant mecha.

Watch, pilot dude loses his partner after a battle, and the resulting damage has affected his brain to where he can't separate his own identity with his partner's memories.

I don't know about most people but the trailers have been pretty good so far. Nolan's involvement also makes me hopeful.

But, let's face it, there hasn't been a good Superman movie is a very long time. I personally liked Superman Returns but it wasn't exactly what I'd call a great movie...

For some reason, I'm still thinking a Wolverine film could be good.

Anyway, decided to link a load of stuff that caught my eye, even if it's not particularly new.

Next film from the 'Drive team'. Kristin Scott Thomas is unrecognisable and friggin' scary.

Looks like standard uplifting indie fare, but it's directed by the writers of The Descendants (aka. Community's Dean and his partner). Also...Sam Rockwell. No more needs to be said.

Also, this might be good?
