The Trailer Thread

I hate that trailer, but only because of its laziness.

When people get snatched up by the aliens (one guy off the horse, Olivia Wilde off the ground) you can clearly see the wires used to pull them up. I mean, you took the time to create a believable looking arm device that can shoot lasers, but you forgot about the oldest trick in the visual effects book?

For shame.

Most of the films I'm looking forward to seeing have already been mentioned (Black Swan, Never let Me Go, True Grit) but I'm still interested in seeing how this turns out:

I have no interest whatsoever in Battle: Los Angeles based on those trailers. Show me some footage that displays some emotion (other than shock/fear) and maybe I'll consider it.

Alrighty - a little back story.

My brother-in-law and sister met at a film school in LA, back when I was in high school. I've always been a horror fan, and he and his friends were shooting a short horror film (about fifteen minutes or so) to try and dig up funding for a full-length film (cause I guess that's one of the ways to go in the film industry) and they borrowed my mom's sewing machine for the film. So I got to drive down with my parents to deliver the thing and visit the set. I later saw the trailer for their short and was super stoked and loved it. I was always hoping it would make it into an actual film.

Flash forward seven, eight years, and they've finally got their funding (on After Dark's new film imprint) and the film is being released at the end of this month. The trailer just hit. I'm stoked they cast one of the main guys from Harper's Island (an awesome, criminally underrated show amongst all the shit that's on television) and it actually looks like it's going to be a decent indie horror flick.

Obviously this isn't going to be a smash hit and I doubt it's even getting a wide release, but I'm stoked to see the film finally got made and looks like a fun horror ride.

Can't wait to see it in theaters!

The Green Hornet, at its best, will be a decent campy action movie. I'm looking forward to it as well.

However, Battle: Los Angeles is a large-scale war movie. In short, it's meant to be epic. If people are anything but shocked in the movie (Skyline had a wide range of emotional dialogs. It was shit), I'll be disappointed.

I dunno, Apocalypse Now is an epic war film but it certainly isn't monotone in terms of emotions. As for large-scale, the events portrayed in the film may be happening on a large-scale but I'm sure it will focus on a small group of people.

I suppose the film was always going to be a hard sell anyway since I tend to have a low opinion of CGI-heavy action films, it just seems to me that the trailer is offering nothing more than some impressive CGI and a whole load of explosions. The design of the alien tech has a distinctive District 9 vibe without offering the unique personal angle that District 9 had. And it's not like invasion movies haven't been done to death already.

Wait it's actually real?

1. why on earth make it seem like a viral

2. how on earth do films like this get funding when many others don't.

1. It's already done the festival rounds, I don't think it was meant to seem viral.

2. The estimated budget was only $500,000 for a start, and since Mr. Oizo is a successful music producer he probably funded it himself.

Most movies don't have such an awesome premise. What's your beef against killer tire movies? (EDIT: Seriously though; the related links at the side on the youtube page show Killer Condom, which was an awesome Troma film; are they maybe the ones behind it?)

Also; this is sadly real. And I take back everything I ever said about the internet...
