TheFlyingGerbil
Looks quite interesting. By a comedian so it will be interesting how it turns out - timing is important for both genres so it could be good.
deanb
They were discussing this on Empire podcast. They compared to another horror film by a traditionally comedy movie director that worked out well, noting pretty similar to yourself that there's quite a lot of similarities in timing n such. deanb
Still crap music choice. But looks neat, seems they're defo going with the overall arc of the first/start of second in him learning skills n using them to escape. Also it's the "Assassins Order/Brotherhood of Assassins/etc", the "Assasins Creed" is their rules: -Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent. -Hide in plain sight, be one with the crowd. -Never compromise the Brotherhood. As well as I guess: Nothing is true, everything is permitted
TheMightyEthan
I'm hoping that Assassin's Creed thing is just that bullshit editing they do in trailers and that they're not honestly calling the Brotherhood "the Assassin's Creed". Thursday Next
After the US version of the Ring, I have no problem believing that they have called the order the Assassins' Creed.
TheMightyEthan
What was the issue in the Ring?
toxicitizen
Yeah, calling the brotherhood the "Assassin's Creed" is seriously fucking dumb but it's hardly a surprise. Thursday Next
What was the issue in the Ring? Ring spoilers below. "The Ring" at least in the Japanese version was based on the concept of the video being passed around to avoid the 7 days till you die thing in a big ring. In the US version the marketing ran something along the lines of "Before you die you see the ring" mistakenly thinking that the view of the well where Sadako (or Sarah or whatever they call her in the US version) was buried was the titular "Ring".
TheMightyEthan
I've seen the Japanese version and had completely forgotten that...
Thursday Next
I loved the Japanese version, had recently seen the pointless remake of Let The Right One In after the brilliant Let Me In and was generally pissed off at the whole Hollywood reshoots good films frame by frame or just makes them worse kick so it stuck with me. TheFlyingGerbil
I'd recommend the novel of "let the right one in" if anyone is interested in that sort of thing.

deanb
New Luc Besson sci-fi. I'd maybe not include "From creator of Lucy" in there mind. Fifth Element would do fine. I'm hopeful. Fifth Element is enough to help there. My only major issue is it might end up like Jupiter Ascending where the "world" is just way too big n mainly carried by visual effects n such. Fifth Element was great cos a lot of the "world" was incidental (like one of my fave wallpapers in rotation of the spaceship leaving the port in New York for just a few seconds but you see all the bay has been drained n Statue of Liberty is on a massive "tower" now cos of it. But there's also a lot of hype building up around this, and the graphic novel it's based on (I believe it's a euro comic) is meant to be quite good. danielpholt
I (didn't) Love Lucy but I thought it did pretty well commercially. Why do they keep casting this woman in movies. I get that she's popular with a certain demographic but I can't stand her. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
deanb
I'd say Scarlett Johanson helped. It actually looked kinda good from the trailers but ended up kinda sucking in the end. The big issue I'd say is the "10% of brain" thing pulled people out of the films logic almost immediately. Saw a remark it would have helped if they'd have gone with say "200%, 300%" etc. Also ditched the heavy handed nature documentary clips at the start, or at least continue them throughout the film. And maybe don't have her turn into a USB stick at the end. Do some Akira type shit, bright lights and then nothing left. She has ascended to another plane or whatever, showing the way of future human progression or something. Anywho new Underworld film. I've yet to watch the last one actually. They're fun "background viewing" kinda films Bloody Tywin telling people to go north. Typecasting! And this is getting a bit of a buzz around it too. Casting helps I guess. Seems folks are taking it as a sort of "Se7en with paranormal elements".

deanb
Obi-Wan Kenobi with his outrageous accent. Obviously plucking at the nostalgia with the music there. I'm up in the air what it'll be like. No Angela Lansbury will impact it a bit imho.

I thought everyone knew about that stupid "we only use 10% of our brain" stat. That was the whole premise of Limitless too.
TheMightyEthan
Everyone does know about it, but that doesn't make it less stupid to use as a premise for your movie.
