Vecha
So, just got finished watching this documentary. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1202867-dear_zachary/ I don't recommend anyone watching it who has a soft spot for murdered children. I watched it without knowing the child had been killed in a murder-suicide years after she killed the boy's father...so, boy was a I mess by the end of the documentary.Anyways, the Canadian court system royally fucked up. Not that the States have a better system...they don't. I know we need to walk a fine line in presuming innocence, but when it comes to a child's care? Just pisses me off to no limit. TheMightyEthan
The system's certainly not perfect. Feel free to suggest a better one.

Connorrrr
Systems are never perfect, indeed. It's fucking hard. I work on the childrens ward at our city hospital, and I see some shit, and undoubtedly, you see some shit that makes you wonder why it wasn't picked up sooner. There're so many disciplines involved that it's so easy for just one of them to miss something or to not hand something over to the other, and then something drastic happens. It's pretty shitty. And I don't have an answer for that. I don't know the situation in the documentary you've quoted, I haven't seen it (but I am intrigued and would rather like to see it) but it's so complicated, far far above my head. All that is really in my power is to hope for the best and to try and keep vigilant in my role.
Vecha
Oh, totally agree Conorrrr. I was a child that "fell through the cracks" So, probably why I reacted so strongly. But this documentary...I've heard some horror stories but it took it to another level for me. A dr. at a hearing basically said, "This woman did a violent act, but since it was only against one guy, it was specific...so...she won't do that again since the one she wanted to kill is dead." this led to her being allowed to keep her baby...and was never extradited. Just jaw dropping shit.I wish common sense was common.
