SomTervo
Yeah, so I thought a thread might be good for A) the trailer B) the playable demo (which I haven't tried yet, apparently on PSN for free?) and C) upcoming developments. Looks bloody good to me. But what the hell does "This game is a teaser. It has no direct relation to the main title" mean? Is Silent Hills just a tiny teaser game? The teaser demo which is online? Will the full game be something different, like Silent Hill 5 or something? Man, Kojima just had to make everything so confusing.
TheMightyEthan
There's a demo?
Strangelove
It's called P.T. and it's on PS4 PSN store. It is amazing. Until it pisses you off.
Alex Heat
As long as it's at least on par with Downpour and better than 4/Homecoming/Origins/Shattered Memories, I can deal with Silent Hills not being better than 1/2/3.
staySICK
PT is for playable teaser, and I think it was saying that PT is just a teaser and does not reflect what will be Silent Hills, just serves as an announcement teaser. So no, there's no demo, just an interactive teaser dressed as a demo for a fake project.
Strangelove
It's basically a minigame to unlock the Silent Hill teaser. Thats its. Like a viral thing youd find on the internet, except made a million times better. Its so well made it could be made into a full fledged game.
SomTervo
Yeah, right. So P.T. is sorta like a proof of concept just in terms of being able to make scary snippets of gameplay. And it'll probably be stylistically connected to Silent Hills, if not directly connected in plot/ character/ universe. Sorta like a spiritual teaser. 'Sake. Strangelove
Im pretty sure I played it for about 3 or 4 hours last night and I just eventually gave up at the last puzzle. I dont care that I personally couldnt figure it out, but Im curious as to what the method to finish that last puzzle is. I really doubt it's random. Kojima needs to speak up. staySICK
i read some thoughts that you had to be streaming in order to trigger the ending. I got stuck around the second time the bathroom door is cracked open and went to bed. need to finish.
SomTervo
Yeah, we played PT last night for a good 20 minutes. Incredibly powerful proof of concept for what Silent Hills could be. We did it hotseat style; where me, my gf and best friend passed the controller every time we got through the door at the end of the corridor. It basically ended up like the Russian Roulette of horror videogames. Every time you were passed the controller you'd get hit by a wave of sheer dread and horror and have to push through the door. I was holding the controller when you first peek into the crack in the door... My gf Yasmin was holding the controller when we got attacked by the girl thing and killed. Is that a scripted event? Is there no way of avoiding it? Or were we simply wasting too much time? After she killed us we just respawned in the first room and came into the dark hall she got us in. Am I missing something? Need to finish it tonight anyway. Fucking terrifying. Edited August 14, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
staySICK
I'm stuck just after being attacked by the lady thing, the hallway has the bathroom door open a crack again but I can't trigger anything to happen. Looked all over.
SomTervo
Aha, same bit! I'll give it a blast tonight (presumably I'm a few hours ahead of you if you're US-side) and report back...
Connorrrr
So no doubt everyone is aware of P.T by now. It went viral, everyone realised it was a Playable Teaser for a Silent Hill game with at least some involvement by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. Holy shit, right? So I downloaded P.T and fuck that. Me and my girlfriend turned out the lights, got snug and started playing. At one point I screamed so fucking loud, seriously. I turned it off. My heart was beating through my chest. It's fucking awesome. I daren't go back yet. Anyone played it? Anyone excited? Anyone have any experience with other Silent HIll games? Go nuts! SomTervo
It's an unbelievable isnt it? And just a little demo. Perhaps the greatest proof of concept ive ever seen. The weird thing is it's so hard to put your finger on what makes it scary. I think it's a couple of very basic things: - No running. Even in the Silent Hill series' scariest bits, you could always sprint. Eg confronted with Pyramid Head suddenly? Run! He literally can't catch you! PT totally fucks with you, increasing the "fear in anticipation" dial to 11 because it takes 20 seconds to walk down a short, dark corridor. I booted it up last night to finish it off, and quit within a minute because i couldnt face the whole game's single right turn. - very fucking realistic graphics (lighting at least) The two people i played it with are halfway between casual and hardcore gamer. Lets call them cascore gamers. They were not prepared for how good the graphics are. I think the head movement, slow pace, and minimal but perfectly executed lighting is what does it. All these aspects combined make it perfectly immersive which raises the essentially basic horror to insane heights.
Little Pirate
I really hyped the fear factor for myself by playing at night with the lights off, I gotta say, I am REALLY impressed with how they handled the teaser. I am SO pumped for this game all the more. I was at the edge of my seat throughout the whole teaser. It took me a little bit to figure out you're supposed to trigger events in a certain order. THIS scene did get me to jump, I managed to get a video clip of it.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10201675280244206 (I really hate the only way you can share videos is through Twitter or Facebook) I was trying to get through that last bit where you have to count your steps as you walk, and you're supposed to wait for two baby laughs to continue. I got the first one then walked the 10 steps to trigger the second one. Instead of the second one I had a ghost fly down the hall at my face and vanish. Has anyone else seen this or had this happen? I was told it didn't happen by other people who played. Edited August 16, 2014 by Little Pirate
SomTervo
I'm still stuck on the last loop, too. Unbelievably tough. Apparently the ghost will appear in one of five places, and either leave you alone or rush at you. If you get close to her when she's being passive, she'll kill you. OH BUT If she rushed at you and disappeared... She might have "possessed" you. Apparently this is characterised by a background breathing noise, as if someone is breathing right behind you. And you may be able to see her in the mirror behind you. People have had something else happen whilst possessed, but I can't remember what. Freaky shit. I can get the baby to laugh by taking 10 steps after the midnight bells toll... But after that I can't get the second laugh to happen. Anyone else? Certainly one of the most intricate and deep puzzles I've ever seen in gaming. EDIT: Also the amount of things and interconnecting triggers in the last scene is insane. It's, like, impossible to correlate how exactly you can do it. I've read some 40 or 50 different accounts of success or failure, and every one was utterly different. There must be some arcane logic to it which nobody has discovered yet. Edited August 18, 2014 by kenshi_ryden

TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I wimped out at the last part, as soon as I saw the wife's ghost I was just "nooope". Youtubed it, and even that was scary.
Connorrrr
I wimped out much earlier. The big jump scene, where she seems to snap your neck. I just can't face it again!
SomTervo
Yeah, the jump scare where she grabs you is the worst bit. I'm pretty sure she grabs you, breaks your neck, then eats you a little bit. Then fade to black. I swear the game pulls a trick, too, whereby every time you replay that part, it doesn't happen at quite the same time. It happens within about +- 5 seconds of the corridor bend. So replaying it, you STILL get freaked the shit out. It can't be predicted. AND Y'kno the last puzzle? The endless loop where her ghost will appear at random? I still haven't seen her ghost. Because every time I hear the music/ noise indicating that she's around, I immediately face the nearest wall and refuse to move. It's worked so far. Except in that I haven't finished the game yet. Waldorf and Statler
If any of you guys haven't figured it out how to beat the final loop in Pt there are plenty of methods people are speculating for it to finish. NeoGAF was a huge help, we were all communicating and helping each other beat it.
