Mister Jack
Only 10 gil for a tank of gas? Even with all the monsters, this world is officially better than the real one. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
deanb
Do you have a thing pop up for hotels n petrol being"15 -> 30gil" I'm not sure what that's about. Oh it is worth noting that a full tank of gas doesn't get you too far in comparison with a modern car. But I guess modern car doesn't fly either.

deanb
Can't embed cos I stuck it on Twitter but here's my Regaliahttps://twitter.com/deanbmmv/status/804403855807090688 My previous Regalia (n slick views). I kept the go faster stripe running along the top of course And here's that weird gil thing I mentioned and another picture for good measure (taken from behind the Chocobo ranch I believe). Also you can't climb the arches, they're neatly designed so the main ledge that'd let you get on them is just a smidge too high.
Mister Jack
Is there some way to manually trigger the libra ability in active mode? I kinda hate having to wait until Ignis feels like using it himself. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Mister Jack
I'm going to need each of you to back up your arguments because I don't know who to believe and I just want to take a side.Count me in for liking the villain. I will say, however, that it takes time to appreciate him because for a good while the game doesn't want to tell you anything. deanb
Oh man, just gone exploring an ancient dungeon with [retracted guest party member] and apart from some of the monster placements being a bit obvious towards end (and ending in a large open arena which Prompto is like "you just know a big monster is gonna jump out at us here") was an otherwise great segment of the game, loved the Reaper monsters which unfortunately didn't get any shots of. Certainly starting to drawn in the more "fantasy" part with it (said ancient dungeon is under a lake...like the ceiling of the dungeon is the lake, not underground but underwater). Oh n Biggs n Wedge show up here too. Not sure which was which but one of them had a very "Russian general" vibe. It did follow up with a rather weird and out of place segment in Lestallum though, I'm thinking it was just there as a story beat to get pawns in certain places though so not gonna give it to much issue. I would say I'm careening into what is the "linear" part of the game. It's not so much like "linear corridors" as in you do certain things in the main quests and you'll get the "it will be a while before you return" messages and you're then sort of put on tracks from area to area to complete that story segment, but once done you're still free to go around the open world, do hunts n races n such. I went up the volcano the other day, then on my return have since been given two quests up there and a hint that there's a royal arm up there (which I think I know where cos there was a path I didn't take as I feared it'd lead me astray). So there's a task to complete again It's one of the "gameier" segments in that getting to the top means knowing how the Stamina system works, or you'll run out of stamina half way n slide down in exhaustion. In other news it's getting a small festive update next week. Two new outfits for Noctis, a New Game+ mode and a carnival area to go to which I guess will be the games Golden Saucer equivalent. https://twitter.com/FFXVEN/status/809797063764537344
Mal
With the showcasing of the 1080 Ti, SE showed off FFXV running on it. https://rampaga.ru/8225/pervyj-vzglyad-na-tehnicheskie-eksperimenty-s-final-fantasy-xv-zapushennoj-na-gtx-1080 They're even showing off a video at GDC. Maybe it's time to say something or do we have to wait for E3?
Mal
There we go. Skip to 1:46 for the 1080Ti bit. Sure, they're working towards the future but we just got the Pro not too long ago and Scorpio is just around the corner. A Pro-er Pro is at least three years out. I also doubt SE is too keen on dicking around on a project for a decade again. Edit: Also can you imagine being the devs working on this? They're totally dick around in a version of the game that nobody else has access to. May be unstable or whatever but hey. It kind of a neat perk... deanb
Yeah looks like it'll be pretty decent on PC, though tbh I doubt I'll double dip. Also it's a rude to be all "hey, you can drive off road" given it is a lot more limited in that regard. Wonder if the PC version will have any of the like physicsy improvements they've shown off. Also given the amount invested in the engine I can see why they're pretty much making FFVII a reskin of FFXV(even if I don't really agree with that approach). In other news Kingstale is also free for all on Xbone n PS4.
deanb
Biggish update coming out for FFXV tomorrow. Including tweaks to Chapter 13 (I've yet to reach but heard it's not thought of fondly) and the ability to scale the big arches which is kinda cool. Had wanted to do that.
Eleven
Finished the game, finally... after holding on to it for like 4 months. And I finished it twice (main quest only on the 2nd run, with me OP as hell at Level 99)! Anyway Spoiler The story is... a little disappointing, it seems rushed and very... shallow? Run around get godly powers, then get stripped of everything, as is tradition I guess in games where you grow stronger (while going through the most boring hallway level ever), and then the final battle was really underwhelming. There's nothing in the story that really stands out, i think, no real plot twists (can you even consider Ardyn's revelation in the crystal room as a plot twist? It doesn't freakin' matter if he was in the line of Lucis Kings, he could just be an evil immortal and it wouldn't matter at all), nothing really that memorable. And that final battle ending... Ifrit was a good penultimate boss, but then the final boss was so weak, even giving you god mode in his 2nd form. And killing your bros right before the fight... really? That was a little dumb... while I know he really wants a 1v1 fight, couldn't his first form be a fight against all 4 of you, then MAYBE kill your bros on the 2nd form. And don't give me god mode... Ardyn could have been a really memorable villain if the story was presented better. His cockiness and arrogance and relationship with the heroes is kind of unique, but the story fails to really make him... matter, for lack of a better word... I didn't really feel like I hate him. I just felt like, ok, he's the big evil boss so I guess I have to kill him. Even killing Luna didn't make me hate him more, because the story didn't really make us care THAT much about Luna. Also, maybe have him cause more grief in the 10 years Noctis was missing, make us do more to reach him at the capital... I really think they dropped the ball on the story... However, I wanna say, that was one of the best endings ever, for me personally at least, not so much in how good the story was, but in how it was presented. I like how the theme of brotherhood was presented, how everything came full circle at the end, and I like how your photos that you've saved played in a slideshow during the credits, making you reminisce and really highlighting the fact that you've spent countless hours with your friends and making you feel like how Noctis must have felt. I could watch that ending all day. I also really love the battle system. It's so flashy but so simple to control. This was what they wanted to do with FFXIII I think, with the earliest preview showing Lightning fighting soldiers in a cinematic way. The way weapons are drawn (out of thin air!) is really cool, and I think makes Noctis one of the coolest RPG heroes out there. I didn't like how magic was handled though. I ended up rarely using magic because it's unnecessary except for bringing down the health of bosses before wailing on it with your swords. Also the fact that it's "limited" triggers my uncontrollable urge(?) to just save it for when I really need it (which is almost never). The overworld, I initially liked. But as I got to the middle of the game, it all felt so small. They tell you there are 3 regions (Duscae, Leide, Cleighn), but really it doesn't feel like it. They should have added an open area around Altissia, and that other continent were Gralea(?)/the empire is. But you just run through them late in the story and never able to go back. It's kind of wasted and makes you feel locked in to the first region. They even tell you multiple times that you brought the regalia to these other places. But you never really use it on those lands, just that 1 time in the story where the car gets destroyed... It's disappointing. They seem to have forgotten how to make JRPG worlds... Wow... seems like I didn't like a lot of things in the game, but in the end, I do really like it mostly because of the fun battle system and the brotherhood theme... and that ending. Man if they only made the story better... I even played it again to see if i'd appreciate it more if I didn't get interrupted by hunts and fetch quests, but no...
Pojodin
Spoiler Yeah, the story never came to fruition. The further you progressed in the game, the more evident it was that they weren't able to do a lot of what they had originally intended. There are gaping holes and plot leads that sounded like they could have been promising but never happened. Everything got really narrow really fast, stifling both the story and any real chance for NPC character development into the middle and later parts of the game. I did pretty much everything in the game except for catching every fish and getting every recipe, and found the open world area to be pretty ideal size wise for a completionist like me. The ending was very nicely done, even with the events leading up to it feeling gutted. I really enjoyed the optional stuff. The hunts were fun, I enjoyed and did quite a bit of fishing, the car and chocobo stuff worked well, Justice Monsters was a little addicting though I didn't play it very much. The flying car stuff was a bit rough with the game over if you crash, but it was a nice touch. The optional dungeons added a nice bit of challenge, but the Pitioss dungeon really was the experience I enjoyed most. A total paradigm shift from the rest of the game and a pure puzzle dungeon. The controls weren't ideal for it, but they were good enough to get the job done. All in all, NPC's and the story were victims of a dubious and delayed development cycle, but the gameplay, combat, and optional content definitely satisfied me. I knew what I was getting into and I definitely enjoyed the ride.
deanb
On one hand it's cool they're still doing a bunch of post-launch support but the other hand they also announced the Prompto VR which didn't happen so not really sure this'll come to pass. deanb
FFXV is coming to Windows (a bit of a "no shit" really) Support for 4K, mods, a bunch of the DLC and season pass stuff rolled into it and so on. Also a bunch of Nvidia stuff rolled in that makes me think Nvidia might be bank rolling a bit of this, definitely expect it to come with some of the higher end GPUs. Also some pretty insane system requirements (though now I go to link em, it seems there's no official source on the requirements and now I'm thinking someone is playing silly games). They're also, in a much less "well duh", coming out with a mobile port Which is where their shitty little building game is gonna fuck em over since that's already embedded in searches for "FFXV" on app stores. I'm curious how scaled back it'll be, it seems that it's kinda covering most of the game which'll be insane if so.
deanb
https://blog.ubi.com/assassins-creed-final-fantasy-xv-collaboration-revealed-gamescom/ So there's going to be a crossover of sorts between FFXV and AC:Origins with AC stuff rolling out in FFXV from next week for a festival like the chocobo thing. toxicitizen
You know, people often accuse games like Street Fighter V of being in "early access" because they're lighter on content than they would've liked and that's usually fucking dumb. But I've been reading on what's been added to FFXV and what's included at launch on PC that wasn't on consoles and holy shit. The console release might as well have been early access. This is one of those rare instances where I'm actually really glad we got such a late port. O_o Edited January 17, 2018 by FLD
Mal
Oh yeah, early adopters got hosed and it really shows how the devs were swinging at the dark and going from there. I mean, I guess it is more or less complete now? I also have the benefit of watching the movie a while back. TBH, I'll play it but I have very low expectations. toxicitizen
Yeah, FFXV is in this weird position where everything I've seen and heard points to it being very unexceptional. But there's a part of me that will always be excited to play a new Final Fantasy game. It's mostly running on nostalgia these days but it's still there.
