Pojodin
The demo is legit! I think I've done just about everything (The phantom swords, the frogs, the other side quests). I was a little skeptical at first, but once I got going I definitely enjoyed it. I think that everyone in my party is at level 58, which is a fair amount higher than you need to be to get through it. By the end, I was definitely satisfied. Edited March 25, 2015 by Pojodin
deanb
I've played a chunk of the demo (until it bugged out and wouldn't accept input from face buttons) and...it just doesn't play like FF at all. It's nearly 10 years old but Final Fantasy XII nailed the battle system for real time open-world battles in a FF game. This is just a convoluted action RPG. I guess originally it was a FFXIII spin-off, and it's usually the spin-off games that have the unusual play styles (apart from the MMOs I guess). I know they like to mix it up a bit, but no one working on the game the past 8-9 years sit back and go "fuck, this doesn't play like a FF game at all". If I wanted an action RPG there's plenty other games. But in same vein I've got many hours in Civ games n jack all in Starcraft, I like the FF games cos I can think n plan out attacks n target weaknesses, not have to be constantly on edge trying to get in a parry. If they wanted something like that then the ring system of Lost Oddyssey might have worked better. (you time for the rings lining up, tap a button and get various boosts n such. You equip rings which provide special effects on Perfect...e.g extra damage, bonus health/MP, casting of statuses etc). Oh dumping random soldiers on you mid battle kinda sucks too, really dragged out what should have been simple battles into 5+ minute affairs. TCP
I literally just had to check the page that uploaded that to see if it was a real trailer. What the fuck? That's how you want to sell us the game? Random shots of your character walking, all from the same angle, cut together poorly, and then a boring battle where YOU LOSE?! This is what Square Enix thinks will increase hype?
toxicitizen
Sometimes (well most of the time) I get the feeling that Square Enix has no idea what the fuck they're doing. I'm convinced that they don't. I mean, do I even need to go into how idiotic it is to keep allocating resources to patching that fucking demo? Also, I kinda don't get why the hype for FFXV is so insanely high. I mean, it's FF, I get it. I love the series as much as the next guy (if not more) and I want to play it yesterday and all that. But, ever since they re-revealed Versus as XV and started showing it all the damn time, something has been feeling increasingly off. And that sets off all kinds of alarm bells for me. It looked fucking amazing the first time they showed it, but everything they've shown over the past year has looked the same. It's clearly the same area, so I can't help but wonder: if the game really is only a year and a half out at most, then where's the rest of the game? For a game of this size, surely they must have something else that's ready to be shown? It's no secret that S-E has been struggling with HD game development since last gen, so I'm kinda starting to worry that the alternative to FFXIII's corridor design is that FFXV will either be 1) a very small world and you just keep doing stuff in the same general area over and over again or 2) have a larger world that's mostly empty, completely lacks variety and looks the same everywhere. Some googling tells me they claimed the full world will be 10 times the size of the Duscae region, so I'm leaning more towards 2 right now. I really hope I'm wrong and that they'll show something completely different soon. Edited August 8, 2015 by FLD
TheMightyEthan
It might also be an ill-advised strategy to just show the one area so they can keep the rest a surprise.
toxicitizen
While I'm almost hesitant to say it, I think even S-E aren't quite that stupid yet. At least, I really hope so... They recently hinted at a 2016 release but the more new information comes out the less likely that actually seems. It really sounds like the game isn't anywhere remotely close to being done and the main reason for that seems to be them struggling with the Luminous engine. Kingdom Hearts 3 switched to UE4 and that looks to be progressing much more smoothly. Hell, even the FFVII Remake isn't running on Luminous. At this rate, FFXV will probably be the only game that ever will. That engine sounds like a massive failure and at this point they should probably just cut their losses and ditch it entirely. toxicitizen
I uh, what? Isn't there a working demo for this game? Yeah but it's unclear how much progress has been made outside of that one area since they haven't actually shown anything else. And they keep making non-trivial changes like ditching a major story character entirely and replacing her with new a character whose name and role they apparently haven't quite figured out yet. I dunno, maybe I'm being overly skeptical here but they haven't really given me any reason not to be. Also, from what I understand the demo struggles to maintain a decent framerate. I mean, yeah it's demo, but that fits with the engine trouble story. They're also currently in talks with Avalanche Studios about borrowing some tech or whatever. Based on what was previously said in interviews, the popular theory is that they're having difficulty with data streaming and getting airships working. Which makes a lot of sense when you consider what Avalanche's flagship series is. Overall, it just really doesn't sound like a game that's roughly a year away from release. deanb
Chocobo's skidding in wet conditions is kinda cool. The animals in this game are pretty neat with the herds and such. Also I've not paid too much attention, but is this game all in the same place? Just pretty sure a fair chunk of that early Chocobo stuff you can see the same barrier you have in the demo. Also overly dramatic fishing there.
deanb
They're still tweaking the UI, which I guess is cool (compare with the above video). Though, doesn't seem very "Final Fantasy".
toxicitizen
To be fair, I don't think this game has ever seemed very "Final Fantasy", even back when it was still Versus XIII. Anyway, this has to be the first footage in over a year to make me care about this game again. I really love the visual design of that area and the mechs are giving off a slight FFVI vibe. I really hope there's more of that kind of stuff in the game rather than the boring, empty landscapes and wildlife we've been mostly seeing up until now. deanb
Yeah it looks kinda neatish, but not really FF, not really a stealth game, not really an action game. I'll probably pick it up regardless, but at least there's the release of FFIX to tide me over with a proper Final Fantasy.

deanb
So they're making a movie An anime And a trailer for the game itself Also a new demo is out on the PSN store. I'm grabbing it atm, gonna see if it's much different to the one that came with Type-0. I might enjoy it a bit more since playing Lightning Returns. https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/platinum-demo-final-fantasy-xv/cid=UP0082-CUSA04568_00-0000000000000001 https://store.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox-One/Games/PLATINUM-DEMO-FINAL-FANTASY-XV/7e0fa99c-bcfd-49e2-90c3-d17d2e566b49 I'll have to put the stream on later, since it's like 3hrs long. http://i.imgur.com/ztDvPYK.gifv
TheMightyEthan
The thing I read said the new demo was like 30-45 minutes. It's also more of a basic mechanics demo, and none of the content is in the actual game. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-30-ff-demo
TheMightyEthan
And having played the demo I'm now actually kind of interested in the game, whereas before I wasn't really. Hmm.
TheFlyingGerbil
I think that's the first time I've heard of a demo actually achieving it's goal.
SomTervo
And having played the demo I'm now actually kind of interested in the game, whereas before I wasn't really. Hmm. Same here. I like that there seems to be more explicit actual "fantasy" in this one, like they've gone back to the roots of what the phrase means. I didn't think the gameplay was very deep - then I watched a video of an experienced player doing the last boss, and he was... Yeah, he was flying around, mixing up weapons I never even found in the demo, doing crazy Devil May Cry-style moves. There's clearly some depth there, even in the demo. All I did was swap between holding Circle and holding Square and it was relatively lame (and I almost lost). There's a little left to be desired of the image quality and frame rate, but it seems very functional indeed. Vehicles were an amazing surprise for me - I had no idea there were drivable things in the game. So that truck popping out of nowhere and it actually having solid driving was a mind-blower.
Pojodin
It's really starting to shape up. There were only a couple things I didn't finish in Duscae: maxing out my level and defeating the Catoblepas at the lake, but the rest was pretty cool. Once you found all the phantom swords you could do the teleporting attack thing which was awesome. The Platinum demo was short but really fun. They have a fun mix of things to do and see, and some of the spells look neat. I'm definitely getting excited for the release.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, the framerate was terrible. Hopefully the final game is better.
Mister Jack
I'm not really sure what to make of this demo. The combat appears to have completely changed and I'm not sure it's for the better. The D-pad is for weapon and item slots now, so does that mean no more traditional menu commands a la Kingdom Hearts? That seems like it would severely limit your options unless I'm missing something. The dodge roll is appreciated and the lock-on is better, but I was left with mixed feelings whereas with the last demo I was totally on board.
