TheFlyingGerbil
Anyone use a launcher their phone didn't come with or do you think it's best not to meddle? Any recommendations or ones to warn away from?
deanb
I use Nova Launcher. I quite like it, I kinda like the swipe launching of apps. So I can tap on Netflix and get Netflix, or I can swipe and it opens MX Player. Or tap DoubleTwist, get local tunes, swipe for Spotify/Google Music (You can't have two, I'm just moving between streaming players atm). It also has quite a lot of nice pretty animations and options for how tabs are managed and what not. It goes on sale when they do new major versions, but there is a free trial version to give it a spin. With it I use the DCikonZ theme, which I quite like as it has a fall back for when it doesn't have a styled icon (Whereas many have heavily styled icons, e.g everything in gun metal, and then if you have apps that aren't like Gmail and phone etc they'r normal and stick out like sore thumb), so you're quite unified across the board. I will note, I've a feeling someone else otherwise might, that since they all have the rounded bottom square silhouette for all the icons, you lose out on a design guideline for Android which is to have a unique silhouette for your apps. Obviously themes are a personal choice, and Nova supports a bunch. I did try Go Launcher many moons back and found it to be suspect chinese crap with bloat and a lot of pushing for thier other apps so everything is Go Text and Go Email and Go Battery Manager and whatever stuff it was pushing (its first time initial set up you've a bunch of widgets and icons for apps that you don't have, but will happily get you to download their stuff. Not a great first impression.)
Faiblesse Des Sens
Anyone use a launcher their phone didn't come with or do you think it's best not to meddle? Any recommendations or ones to warn away from? Action Launcher. Shit like Nova and Apex are boring. It's just stock with customization. Action Launcher is the only one I've used that works great with just one homescreen thanks to stuff like folders that are actually an app shortcut (tap to launch the app, swipe up to access the folder) and widgets that show up when you swipe on the icon. Stay far away fro Go anything.

AL was good, I just grew tired of scolling all the way down to get to apps at the lower end of the alphabet.

Way faster than the regular method.
