Vecha
Love this game! Haven't finished the game(not a surprise), but it has been lovely so far. Brings out my inner child, which then lowers my anxiety and pain.Never played much of the other lego games. Just a few minutes here and there in the past. Wasn't that into them. But this game...this is awesome!Did anyone play a Lego game on the PC called Lego Island? Came out in 1997 and the sequel in 2001. I was 9 at the time when I played the first game and played the hell out of it. Even at 13 I loved the second game that followed(released on the ps1 as well.) The reason I bring them them up is obviously the open world nature of both. But in addition to the open world...they both we goofy, hilarious, and fun as hell.I loved skating around Lego Island and interacting with Legos in the digital world. The game was goofy and off the wall. Now...haven't played it since then...so, not sure how they stand up today. Or if I'd even have any fun..However...when I started playing LCU it brought back some great memories of my youth. I'm sure others have felt that way with the other lego games. Maybe at least.Taking the nostalgia out of the picture, the game still is great fun. There are amusing parody of past movies and a few double-meaning jokes....as well as just goofball humor. The characters are warm, charming, and fucking A hilarious. The game play is also great...and really, really uses the gamepad well. You have different upgrades and skills that utilize the gamepad. Running, jumping, and driving around this open-world is smooth and personally, have never had any issues with the controls. If there was ever a falter, it was my fault with timing or aiming Chase carelessly. As I said earlier there are skills/upgrades you unlock. Chase has different disguises that unlocks throughout the story. As you go from level to level, there will be certain areas/items you can't interact with until you get another disguise which adds to the "replayability". As far as the city it self, there was most likely some inspiration from the GTA games There is a mixture of NYC(like in GTA III/IV) and a beach near by that is like miami/vice city. There is also so much god damn shit to collect and upgrade. Which is either a plus or negative for some bahaha. I most likely won't be getting everything, but it sure is tempting. TL;DR If you love Lego Games. Love collecting/upgrading everything. Love open world games where you can drive a lego car and run over lego pieces and people...then you should love the game. What saddes me...is the game didn't get great sales. Wish it had been multi-platform...I would LOVE to see them explore another open-world lego game again.
TheFlyingGerbil
What are the loading times like? I read they were pretty annoying. I would like to play it but my problem was with the mixed reviews I was waiting for it to drop in price but it never has so I now have a sort of mental block stopping me buying it. If I ever saw it cheap I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Vecha
The loading times are less than a minute. 50ish seconds. Not sure what the initial loading times were. The game seems to load everything in the city at once...like most other open-world games. So, no loading/skittering while driving around. There are loading times between missions..where you'll play for an hour or more in the missions and be hit with the minute loading time. I wasn't bothered by them. But, yeah, a lot of people felt they were "brutal." One complaint with the loading times is there is a minute-ish loading time before you even get to the menu....I really don't understand that. Then when you load, it's another minute. The game is enjoyable. I can't compare too much to the other lego games...but I have a blast when I play it. So, I don't get too bothered by the loading time. A comparison could be GTA 5. It has over a minute loading at the beginning....though, it doesn't have them in the middle of the game. So imagine a GTA 5 intro loading screen(from the time the artwork appears) both before AND after every mission. So, 2 mins per mission.Kind of annoying. But I got used to it. TheMightyEthan
That sounds pretty bad to me.
Vecha
It does suck...which is one of the reasons I wish it went multiplatform. But I enjoy it so much I put up with the loading times Like an up and down relationship. She keeps throwing the dishes at me...then a moment later whispering sexy Italian phrases as she pounces me.....and moments later the tantrams again. But shes a nice gal, honest.
