4th Annual PXOD Secret Santa Wishlists

This thread is not for general discussion of the exchange. Each participant who has signed up for SS2014 should post one time in this thread letting their Santa know what kind of games they like, whether they prefer Steam or another service or digital gift, that sort of thing. Do not post again if you think of more; edit your original post. The more detail you give, the more likely you are to receive something you want. That said, your own style is fine--you could just do a short list of a few things you've been eyeing or else you could be as detailed as you want.

This is not a replacement for Steam wishlists--use those as well. This thread is to give a little more background about your wants and why you may want them. My Wishlist post will be right here in the top post to give you an idea of what we're looking for.

Including a link to your Steam account and wishlist would be a good idea as well. Here is a template to get you started:

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions)
  • General criteria
  • What are your favorite genres?
  • What are your favorite games?
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts?
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist?
  • Any other information you think relevant?
---

Here's mine:

  • Steam ID:  TheMightyEthan, USA
  • General criteria:  Just something that's either on my list or along those lines, or along the lines of other games I like.  I do prefer singleplayer over multiplayer as a pretty consistent rule.  I do not like JRPGs or sports games.
  • What are your favorite genres?  Probably action/adventure games, but I play pretty much everything.
  • What are your favorite games?  In no particular order:  Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin's Creed series, Batman: Arkham games, Dishonored, Mass Effect Series, Dragon Age Series, Halo, Gravity Rush, Red Dead Redemption, Shadow of Mordor
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts?  A PSN gift would also be great.  I have a PS3, PS4, and Vita, but if you go that route PS4 would be top pick.  I'll add a PSN wishlist later, but for the moment checking out my Darkadia (link below) would give a good idea of what I play.
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist?  Yeah, if you really think I'll like it then go ahead, just should probably check my Darkadia account to make sure I haven't already played it on another platform.
  • Any other information you think relevant? I think there's only one game on my Steam list that's in the price range without a sale, but there's a bunch that should be in it once sales start.

My Steam wishlist is an absolute mess right now so I'll have to reorganize it a bit. Whoever got me, just ignore it for now. edit: Alright, I moved some cheaper titles closer to the top and pushed all the pricier or unreleased clutter further down. Should be better now.

  • Steam ID:  FLD, Wishlist, Canada
  • General criteria:  I use my wishlist as kind of a massive shopping list to keep track of all the games I'm interested in, so most of the work is already done for you. I normally try to keep it organized but lately it's become a complete mess so I'll have to clean it up a bit. I'll update this post once that's done and it'll be sorted in order of preference. Just look at it from the top and disregard anything outside your price range.
  • What are your favorite genres? A little bit of everything, really. I definitely favor single-player over mp, though. And if I had to pick my absolute favorite genres, they would probably be:
    • Stealth: Pure stealth is the best (think classic Thief) but stealth/action (like recent Splinter Cell) is fine, too!
    • Turn-based strategy: I tend to prefer the smaller, more unit-based stuff like XCOM, Frozen Synapse, etc. but 4X games like Civilization are cool too!
    • Survival Horror: Stuff like classic Resident Evil is great but I also enjoy the more modern, action-oriented stuff like RE4-5, Dead Space, etc., Open-world survival is a little less interesting to me, though. Actually, not too big on open-worlds in general. When I do like an open-world game, I tend to enjoy them despite their open-worldness.
    • Character action: Terrible "genre" label but whatever. This is your Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, Platinum Games, etc.. kind of action games. Think action games with elaborate combo systems which rank you after every single encounter.
    • Metroidvania: Can't believe I almost forgot this! Metroid+Castlevania, what's not to love?
  • What are your favorite games?   All time favorites would be the Deus Ex series, Thief series, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, almost anything by Platinum Games. I'm also a long-time fan of the Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy series.
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts?  Not really but if for some reason Steam is a problem then some PSN credit would do just fine.
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist?   Sure, if you think I'll enjoy something and it's not there then go for it. But keep in mind, if something's not on it then there might be a reason for that. Plus, you run the risk of getting me something I already played or own on another system.

  • Steam ID: StarkWinterLager

Wishlist: http://steamcommunity.com/id/starkwinterlager/wishlist

Country: United States

General criteria: If possible from my secret santa I'd honestly prefer some PSN credit over a Steam game. But if it's too much of a hassle (aka you live not in the US/Americas) then don't worry about it I'd love some steam too. I added games that meet the criteria of the exchange prior to sales so go nuts with those or with a game you think I'd enjoy.

What are your favorite genres? RPG's by far. If you can think of an RPG I might enjoy then be my guest. But I really love story-heavy games, especially those with an interesting romance. Basically Bioware writing is perfect for me for the most part.

What are your favorite games? Probably RPG's. KOTOR, KOTOR II, Mass Effect trilogy for the most part, Elder Scroll titles, Persona 4, Witcher series (love these to death), etc...

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Like I said above I'd prefer some PSN digital credit over a Steam game as I play my PS4 more than my Steam games, but I wouldn't mind PC games if you have something better in mind.

Will you take games not on your wishlist? Yes for sure. Though if you can ask via a third party somehow if I've played a game from a list it'd be better just to make sure I haven't played the game you recommend. But fyi my laptop is decent at gaming but won't do heavy graphics games.

Any other information you think relevant? If you think of a good story-heavy game, I tend to lean more towards darker/more mature stories. Such as the Witcher.

I'm still missing a bunch of you on my Steam ID so I'll go through here and throw the rest of you on.

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions): the_cowboy_poet / Canada.
  • General criteria: I only have one Steam game, Portal 2, so I'm open to anything that's Mac-compatible. However, I'm using a MacBook from a few years ago so nothing too demanding! If I end up getting something that doesn't work on my MacBook that's ok as I'm planning on getting an actual gaming PC in 2015, and most (all?) of the Mac games are cross-buy on Steam. I've gone through my wishlist and pulled anything that definitely won't work on my computer.
  • What are your favorite genres? 3rd person action / adventure / exploration games. I'm open to all sorts of genres, just maybe nothing horror or racing.
  • What are your favorite games? Skyrim, Red Dead, Ass Creed, Terraria, Proteus
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? No sir.
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist? Sure!
  • Any other information you think relevant? No sir, but as a primarily PS4/Vita gamer it might be neat to get something that's not available on PS4 like Shovel Knight.

General criteria: I know I have some expensive games in my top 10. I've only really kept those there in the event that they receive a considerable discount. I need to do some pruning and change a few things over the next few days (I don't have access to my account atm).

What are your favorite genres? Mainly RPGs, but I play a bit of everything.

What are your favorite games? Baldur's Gate, Ar tonelico, Nier, Counter-Strike, Final Fantasy VI, Suikoden, Shadow Hearts, Fallout, Guild Wars 2, Xenogears, Civilization (despite always pissing me off), Icewind Dale, The Witcher

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? I'd also be down for some Guild Wars 2 gems (cash chop currency), or something off Good Old Games—I really hope their Galaxy platform goes somewhere.

Will you take games not on your wishlist? Of course.

Any other information you think relevant? There are some really bad visual novels on Steam. I think it'd be safest to avoid the genre altogether.

  • Steam ID: MaliciousH

Wishlist: http://steamcommunity.com/id/malicioush/wishlist

Country: United States

General criteria: I updated, somewhat, my wishlist so that should be a good guild. I'm totally down for a wildcard though since I can't really think of any cheap, released games that I want.

What are your favorite genres? RPG's or shooters.

What are your favorite games? A recent favorite are Shadow Warrior. As for solid favorites, Ys series and Doom to give an idea of how diverse I am.

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? I wouldn't mind. If it isn't on Steam, it isn't the end of the world. GOG should have many oldies that I would enjoy.

Will you take games not on your wishlist? For sure. It's more of an general idea of what I look for in games.

Any other information you think relevant? The age of the games on my wishlist may be an indicator of how much I would like to play it. Sadly I got rid of Shadow Warrior from the list... Also, again, if there there are some oldies but goodies that I haven't played (e.g., not in my library) then feel free to get it.

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions): franc0pirate / Darkadia wishlist (I've consolidated this with my steam wishlist) / US (well, at least when it comes to region codes, except Steam - Southeast Asia)
  • General criteria: I have a gaming PC, although I rarely use it now, as I'm more of a console guy, but it doesn't mean you can't get me a Steam game. And if it's a steam game that can run on an Intel 4000, then that's great too, since I can play on my laptop.
  • What are your favorite genres? Action/Adventure games. RPGs. Beat 'em-ups.
  • What are your favorite games? Assassin's Creed, I've played them all (except for Adewale)!, Mass Effect, TES and Fallout (including the old ones)!. Yep. Mainstream AAAs! I'm a filthy casual.
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Non-steam means PSN, right?
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist? Yes, you can use the wishlist as a guide. Also includes gift cards, too! All is welcome.
  • Any other information you think relevant? I have a PS+ subscription for so long now that any game that was free on that service, I already have, as I grab those religiously. You can view my steam games on my steam profile. This link should show my PS trophies and can be used as a reference too.

EDIT: I posted an update below due to region codes, but if you have the gift already, don't worry about it and send it. But if not, well, avoid Steam. :(

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions): SteamIDWishlistCanada
  • General criteria: Anything that's on my wishlist,  games that can be played casually, so nothing too time consuming like... online games or dragon age/elder scroll kinda games.  Not too big on racing/sports games.
  • What are your favourite genres? Shooters, RPGS, Survival/Exploration, Hack and Slash.
  • What are your favourite games? TF2, Path of Exile, Minecraft/Terraria, Darksiders, Kingdom Hearts, Dynasty Warriors.
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Not really, unless the game can't be found on the service. ie. Titanfall or something
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist? Sure why not.
  • Any other information you think relevant?  I haven't quite got around to actually sorting my steam wishlist so the order isn't absolute or anything

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions)

Dean [PXOD] | List of Wishes | Darkadia | United Kingdom

  • General criteria

I guess stuff on my wishlist, it's not quite set up for Secret Santa as of writing though (and still might not be wholly done in the future since with the Discovery Update I have been using it as a "make a note of this to pick up for myself when I've time/pennies").

  • What are your favourite genres?

See I would say RPGs, but it can be awkward stuff to fit into the day. I guess open world games I quite like, and shooters/tactical shooter type stuff (i.e closer to Mass Effect/DXHR than to COD/CS).

  • What are your favourite games?

FF series I quite like. Rather enjoyed DXHR.

  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts?

I guess maybe DA:I/FC4* if I had a really swell Santa. Other than that I think everything is on Steam.

  • Will you take games not on your wishlist?

Probably not. I guess could see the next point:

  • Any other information you think relevant?

Here's my finished games, these are titles I've played to the end, so a good bet I'd like stuff that's similar. I don't like "hard" games. i.e Souls, Super Meat Boy, stuff with requirement of reflexes n what not. Also no to horror games. A big one there.

*I have managed to hack it into my Steam list, but I'll be honest I'm not sure if a US bought version would work on Steam in UK.

  • Steam ID:  Madbassman39 http://steamcommunity.com/id/madbassman39/wishlist/

  • General criteria:  I tend to lean more towards action-y titles, but as time goes on turn games seem to be catching my attention. I really like games with well developed worlds.

What are your favorite genres?  Action/adventure, RPG, FPS, Racing, and occasionally sports.

What are your favorite games?  Elder Scrolls (the more recent ones the more I like them), Uncharted series, GTA series, Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed, Twisted Metal Black, Need For Speed Underground 2, Far Cry 3, X-com, Oddworld Abes Exodus

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts?  I do have a PS3 and would enjoy PSN currency, I also enjoy any digital purchase on the PC, Origin or Uplay are welcome.

Will you take games not on your wishlist?  Yes. Sometimes I'm not aware of games, sometimes I'm not aware of how much I would like a genre, so if you see something that you think might interest someone with my taste I'm open to it.

Any other information you think relevant? I like to challenge my self, but my time is limited so hard games are welcome (such as Darksouls 2) but those are games I haven't bought because I'm afraid they might be too hard for me to crack open, I would love to play them but don't have the time sink that I used to have.

  • Steam ID / Wishlist / US

  • General criteria I've been wanting to get more single player games because after a while multiplayer is kind of a bummer. I think I've got my wishlist paired down but I'll def make a few changes here and there. It's in no particular order.

What are your favorite genres? just about anything besides tower defense/moba/pissing contests

What are your favorite games? I play way too much TF2 mostly because its so easy to pick up and play and its goofy and also I like hats. Civ is the cat's pjs. I play Skyrim often, too.

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Steam preferred. I have a copies of FC3 and Blood Dragon that have been collecting dust on Uplay simply because they're out of sight out of mind

(also uplay sux lolololol)

Will you take games not on your wishlist? surprise me :3

  • Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions) steam ID | Wishlist | MURICA
  • General criteria gaemz
  • What are your favorite genres? RPG (J and otherwise), FPS, AA,
  • What are your favorite games? DOOM, Bulletstorm, Fallout 3, Diablo II, Persona 4...
  • Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Sure? PSN or XBX store credit gift cards would work too
  • Will you take games not on your wishlist? Sure. If you see a game you think I would like / should own and its not on my steam library go ahead.  I'm pretty open minded at trying games. I'm not too worried about an overlap between console / PC with some games, but you can feel free to check my achievements on PS/XBL for games I've played / own
  • Any other information you think relevant? I love you.

General criteria For Steam games, anything that I can play in short bursts or with frequent pauses, like FTL, Frozen Synapse and Papers Please. Otherwise, EU PSN credit would be awesome. My wishlist is pretty short at the mo, but I'll try to beef it up.

What are your favorite genres? Indie games. Roguelikes.

What are your favorite games? Journey, The Last of Us, DA:I.

Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? PSN store credit please.

Will you take games not on your wishlist? I'm always happy to check out new games I've never heard of, so yeah.

Any other information you think relevant? Nahhhhhh.

Just in case it affects anyone, Steam has locked gifting between some regions.  Here's a reddit post that lists the restrictions:  http://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/2pjdwm/psa_all_games_are_getting_region_locked/

Regions/currencies not affected

US$

CAD$

£

There are a couple others unaffected, but I know those are going to be the big ones here.

Ah shit... I didn't even think about this for MY secret santa.

This is my bad of course, so if you have the game already, just send it and don't worry!!

While most of my accounts are US based (like my PSN and Xbox accounts), my Steam is Southeast Asia. That means I'm affected by the region lock as I just discovered. I had been working on the assumption that everything's the same, as there were really no problems with steam gifting before.

So with that, avoid Steam if you have not done so. Sorry for that inconvenience man!  :(
