No Man's Sky

I haven't seen a single second of actual release footage with a planet that looked even remotely close to what they showed in the trailer, and believe me, it's not like I haven't been looking.  If you've seen something like it, by all means share it here because I'd love to see it.  All I can find are desolate wastelands.

I'm trying to find one by going to a higher classed star system but I'm having a bitch of a time finding all the resources and blueprints to build what I need. Chrysonite is not anywhere when I need it. Before hand I had a bunch. I would backtrack to some other planets but my hyperdrive is busted. I guess I could buy a new ship at the space station. On the bright side I got two new hyperdrive upgrades that I'm waiting to build...\

Edit: Copper is another thing I'm having trouble finding. But you know what? Wiki it. I just can't be running around blind like this.

And this current planet is a Sentinel hellhole. Great riches but robotic hellhounds and constant harassment by the flying ones is a thing here.

Yeah the vast majority of planets are nothing like the trailers in either looks or density. Most look like barren crapholes, and the only sort of "lush" planet I've found had zero fauna. Like sure I understand they'd tweak their parameters to have a good looking planet to show off at E3 and on Colbert but it's not even remotely what most of the planets are like. They can surely tweak how common or uncommon barren planets are so why choose to have it almost consistently 3 for 3 on shitty planets. Like I can understand if maybe a moon (Incidentally in one system I popped into the moon was pretty much on top of the planet. Primitive species could have travelled to the moon with a spring enough tree n some rope) was barren as hell, but the planets should maybe not all be Mars like.(I understand in "reality" barren planets should be more common but so should gas planets n they've stated there won't be any).

Also I've had some copper n Chrysonite but will have sold due to inventory space.

Playing Witcher 3 and Toussant is as pretty as it was in the trailers.

Exhausting all the planets in the star system, I had to buy a new ship for a hyperdrive. Luckily this new one has more space and a hyperdrive upgrade to boot. The only "problem" is this new star system has a planet with theropod aka meat-eating dinosaur aka T-rex. Welcome to Jurassic Park.

Whoever said that the world was safe never faced down a

Sentinel Chicken Walker that has a laser that can toss you around and cause a fuck ton of damage. And it was more like running from a group of what I thought was normal sentinels and a dog one. I only ever caught a split second of the walker as I looked back at what the hell was hitting me. At first I though the game physics was bugging out. Now that's memorable.

Edit: Spoiled it if one of you want to go about it organically.

ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) are investigating Hello Games over the misleading advertising of No Mans Sky. Which as the article agrees is pretty valid given it's still rocking screenshots n videos of now debunked gameplay.

lol.

In other news word is Sean Murray will be doing an interview with Geoff "Dorito Pope" Kieghley cos I guess he's all for the hardball interviews. Of course folks have pointed out Sean Murray has done interviews before, which is where a lot of the shit he said that turned out to be untruth/lies came from. So he could say anything n at this point be hard to believe whatever he's saying.

It's a compelling but mediocre game. You can even call it downright bad but the concept is compelling enough for me to keep on playing when I did. Pity about what Hello Games did... this is a game that should've went through some sort of development hell, not shat out. And Sean Murray is a terrible name to utter.

For those that care the ASA ruling was not upheld

https://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2016/11/Valve-Corporation/SHP_ADJ_351045.aspx#.WD6_B_mLRHZ

Essentially since it's mainly targeted to what was shown on Steam page rather than things shown off at E3 or TV interviews n such it's a bit toothless in what can be done (for one while Hello Games is UK based, E3 n Colbert aren't).

What's a bit concerning is that HG continued to push a bunch of their now provably false stuff in response to the ASA ruling. In fact there's a lot of "Hello Games provided footage" in the response, which is a big part of the issue folks have had with the game since the E3 stuff has been shown to be purposefully scripted rather than the randomly generated shit you play through with the released game.

But I guess overall no one here cares since no one posted about the addition of base building in a game where you're encouraged to spend a few minutes on a planet gathering resources to warp further into the core, rather than stick around on one planet.

I still have my copy but since it is an update to build a foundation for future updates, I'll wait for further updates to jump back in. The changes are for sure great but it's coming from one of the deepest pits so that's not saying much.

As for the ASA ruling, you said all that needs to be said. Hello Games should get a legal smack in the face but since it is just based on the Steam page: eh.

Really doesn't help remove the "this was a £40 unmarked Early Access game" feeling most have with it.

Talk about damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think it's great that the game is getting so much post launch support. I kinda want to pick it up again and drive a Mako. Ooooh, there's a hover craft thing? And a sand crawler?!

To be fair, you go around a real galaxy and it's going to be mostly iron and carbon that you are digging up. Also, it would truly suck balls to have to warp back to an old system just to get some of a particular element that you now need that you didn't before.

I once fucked up my spaceship to the point that it couldn't leave the star system without one or two minerals that can only be found in bulk on icy or acidic worlds. Or just be found there. There are some very rare plants that gave out like 10 at a time or I could buy it if I see it at again, 10s at a time. I needed hundreds of units. I happened to fuck up in a star system without an icy or acidic planet. That was a long slog to get out from.

So mineral/item absence and scarcity is a thing. Though with the previous update with warping from bases and space station, it is all moot.
