Bayonetta 2.

Sh*t be crazy man, sh*t be crazy.

Not a criticism of the game at all, but man alive did that game look rough at times on my 46" TV. Compared to DMC on my PC, which admittedly looked above and beyond what most games could do, Bayonetta just didn't stack up.

I just finished the Phoenix Wright Trilogy on 3DS and it was excellent! The third game is probably the best one in the original trilogy; it has deep characters and expands on all the previous ones, ties up all loose ends and while I didn't originally like the soundtrack, I was really digging it by the last episode.

I really didn't expect these games to last so long. In total, the entire trilogy took up 75 hours of my time, and I still want more. I'm glad that it ended though, because now I can finally move on to some other games!

woah, 75 hours, is that normal or did you take a long time over it? I only played the first one when it came out. I really enjoyed it but with all the sequels and spin-offs it's a bit daunting to get back in to.

Cleared Pandora's Tower (got every ending) and Super Mario 3D Land over the last couple days.  I'd thought I finished it months ago, but after finishing World 8, the game blindsided me with eight more worlds to playthrough followed by doing the final level once more.

I love it when games do that.  Playing Captain Toad I thought I'd finished it (credits rolled and everything) and went "that's it?", only for it then to unlock Episode 2, which is just as many levels as Episode 1.  After finishing Episode 2 I was like "that was a good game" only for Episode 3 to unlock!

I was happy that I was getting more bang for my buck and I got to switch to Luigi.

I now know what to spend the rest of my gift card on.

Can I put Freedom Cry in here since I bought it as a standalone game? Feels a bit cheaty but I finish so few games I have to count everything and I did 100% it.

I liked it and would have preferred black flag to be about adewale rather than kenway as I thought his story had much more potential and was very poignant in part even though there wasn't much time to draw you in. I am in the weird position with assassin's creed now of really enjoying playing them but being bored of them at the same time. It's particularly bad for me at the moment as only having last gen systems I'm stuck with Rogue as my next choice so I don't even have the freshness of a new location to interest me. I'm hoping the rogue aspect changes things up enough to make things fresh but I have a bad feeling it won't make that much difference.

I beat Shadow of Mordor.  Pretty good for a licensed game.  It only has one original bone in its body (the nemesis system) but fortunately for it that one bone happens to be really, really good.  The ending was a pretty big letdown, though.  Oh well, still had a lot of fun with it.

Killer Is Dead.

I didn't really have any expectations for this one. I've only ever played two Suda51 games, one of which I never actually finished. I love their weirdness but they seem to be kind of hit-or-miss mechanically. Killer is Dead is very much a hit. I never expected to enjoy the game this much.

It's a pretty bare-bones spectacle fighter, once I got a good grip on the mechanics and unlocked the healing ability it didn't really present much of a challenge. The story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, either. It's structured episodically and only a few of them cover the main plot, most of the other episodes are self-contained and just downright fucking bizarre. I mean, at one point you're tasked with killing a fucking train. There's also vampires that are never really explained and I guess some kind of Kaiju as well. It's all over the place but in a good way. It helps that the game just oozes style, the visuals have a very unique aesthetic to them and the soundtrack is pretty great.

One thing to note is that, like I mentioned in the purchase thread, the PC port is kinda shit. The graphical options might as well be nonexistant and the framerate is capped at 30. It's possible to change that cap by editing the .ini files but that fucks with the timing of QTEs so you need to go tweak other settings as well if you do so. I ended up playing at 30 because the game crashed a lot at 60. One mission in particular would always hang no matter what. The game is definitely worth playing but if these issues matter to you then wait for a sale.

Now I really hope more Suda51 games come to Steam in the future. I never got around to playing Lollipop Chainsaw and I'd love an excuse to give Shadows of the Damned another run.

Did the Steam version not come with the Bonus Episode? (By bonus I mean it was a cut out episode.) It's the one with the female vampire client, Betty I believe, wanting you to kill the other "vampire."

Anyway, I may sound critical of the game, but know that's because the game left an odd aftertaste when I sat back from completing it long ago. I do care about story, so the seemingly chief concern with Killer is Dead being how stylized can one make weird. You can let players fill in gaps, but to a reasonable degree. Hell, if you didn't play the vampire episode, you're probably even more confused about the unicorn. If you read that out loud, you probably realize how crazy that seems, but probably not as crazy as Mondo wanting to bang an ancient vampire.

Nah, it's there. That's kinda what I was referring to. I knew it was a DLC episode (day one DLC, I think?) so when I first started it and saw the unicorn I kinda went "wait, maybe I'm not supposed to be playing this yet..." But even after playing it later on, l didn't feel like the vampires (or the fucking unicorn for that matter) were really explained in any way, shape or form.

I mean, I wasn't trying to criticize the game when I brought that up. I don't need it to explain every little thing. If a game this weird just throws vampires into the mix without trying to justify their existence, I'm willing to just roll with it. I don't really need to know why there are vampires in this world, just that there are. But now that you mention the unicorn, that's a little harder to just accept. That one felt like it came out of fucking nowhere.
