TCP
I also suck at puzzle games, but I actually grew to really like the block puzzle gameplay of Catherine. Edited April 30, 2015 by The Cowboy Poet
TheMightyEthan
Hmm, I'm a little interested in Akiba's Trip, but $25 is still high. I wish it were 75% off, I'd defo try it for $12.50. *Edit - Same with the Korra game, if it were $5 I'd probably do it, but $7.50 seems too high. Strangelove
Catherine is amazing. Im not a huge puzzle person and some of the puzzles can be pretty difficult, but its totally worth it. Its one of the best and most original games of last gen. And its a good preview to what Persona 5 is going to look like.
TheMightyEthan
I liked Catherine too, although one major issue I had with it is that the game is all about choice, and acts like it's giving you choices, but then those choices are completely ignored in the cutscenes which (except the end cutscene) are all the same no matter what you do. Like, I'm not someone who thinks that every game needs to offer you narrative choices, but if they do then I want the game to at least pretend like they matter. And I don't mean that they don't matter in the sense that they don't affect events, I mean they don't matter in the sense that your character expresses certain desires and whatnot in cutscenes, regardless of whether that has any resemblance to the the choices you've been making. Strangelove
The game has its own storyline and characters. Its not going to hand over the reigns to the player. Japanese games with choices never ask for your opinion, they ask if you want more information about the story. The only choice is exposition. Persona 3 and 4 do the same. You make a lot of choices, but the characters are always themselves and the game will always go through all the same major events. You can skip entire characters and some events, but they wont matter overall. Same with Telltale games. Lee is always going to die, only thing you can do is make him a good person or kind of a dick, but still a good person. Thats not really choice. But the story is benefits immensely. I personally prefer it that way. There is not one game that lets you choose the story that doesnt have huge flaws. You play Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls and youre accepting good lore but a shit story. At least in comparison to rpgs that have a strict storyline. Which is the main reason I dont understand the fascination with these things. Same reason the ME3 ending thing was ridiculous. People were clearly delusional to think their choices would totally change the ending in a significant way. Game developers arent even close to figuring that shit out.
TheMightyEthan
Butter that's not how Catherine is, it's not just exposition. In Catherine you get to take plenty of actions that should define the attitudes of your character, but the instant is a cutscene he acts one way no matter what you've done. Fine, they don't want to give me control I don't care, but then don't pretend you're giving me control just to take it away later. Also, the fact that the ending /is/ determined by your choices make it really jarring unless you go one particular route, because nothing in the story led up to it. *Edit - Really, I'm not saying it needs to have choices, I'm just saying that if it does have choices those need to be reflected. P4 did perfectly fine at acknowledging your choices without them really affecting anything. And if they wanted to not have choices at all that would be fine too. It's the shitty implementation of the choices that bothers me.

Having played and actually enjoyed it, yeah, wait for it to be sub 15$. It's good but not great. And it's actually coming to Steam in the near future, so it'll inevitably be like 5 bucks eventually. I kinda feel like I need to get Korra ASAP, though. It being an Activision licensed game, I'm nervous it could disappear any day.

I just don't remember anything bad about it besides my frustration with the last puzzle.
deanb
I caved n got GTAV on PC. Probably the priciest game I've gotten in a long while mind.
Mr. GOH!
Got a code for The Witcher 3 with my laptop. It'll be fun to try; I like the Witcher games, though I haven't finished either of the first two.
Saturnine Tenshi
Good luck, GOH. Definitely a winner. Wife bought me GTAV . . . on Steam . . . for $70 . . . when I'm busy with a project . . . that I need to get as much work done on before The Witcher 3 releases. But I guess I have it now. toxicitizen
After my last post I realized it was also 50% off on Steam. Figured better safe than sorry. Especially with the way the show was unceremoniously taken off the air, I don't think Activision will be too eager to renew that license. Of course, now I have to get up to date with the show before I can play it. It takes place between which seasons again? 2 and 3?
Baconrath
I just bought Chroma Squad on a whim. This looks promising...
TheMightyEthan
I'll wait til it's cheaper. If it disappears then I'll pirate it. I like to avoid pirating things, but if I actually can't buy it then I don't care.

toxicitizen
and I guess technically also The game + all the DLC for 30 bucks over on Bundle Stars. The deal's been there for like a month but I decided to go for it at the last minute (it ends in a few hours). It ended up not being as great of a deal as it first seemed because of the exchange rate, but rumor is the GOTY Edition is gonna show up tomorrow. So, I figured this is the best deal I'm likely to get for the whole thing for the foreseeable future. And I kinda wanted a new game (as in not from my backlog) to keep me busy until Witcher 3. edit: Completely forgot this was coming out this week. I enjoyed The New Order way too much not to get this day one but the 25% off voucher on GMG was a nice additional incentive. Hot Heart
I was in a Marvel-y mood for some reason or other. It's a big buy on its own, but worked out much cheaper than getting everything separate at RRP. Guy says it's in pristine condition; which looks and sounds legit since he seemed to take care of it and even made up a bunch of dividers (a nice little extra too)

toxicitizen
I was hoping I'd be able to last on my CPU's stock cooler a little longer but Wolfenstein: The Old Blood was pushing it to temps that made me very uncomfortable. I was tempted to go for one of those fancy All-in-One liquid coolers Corsair makes but I'm kinda nervous about them leaking so I stuck with air. Installing an aftermarket cooler like this is still the step that makes me the most nervous out of the entire PC building process. I just fucking hate it. But at least I knew what I was doing since I helped a friend install the same model in his build like a week ago. Mine was much less trouble to install than his was. And I actually did mine without taking the motherboard out of the case. Speaking of which, man, I fucking love my case! I don't think I could ever go back to a case that doesn't have cable management holes now. It just makes such a huge difference in how annoying it is to go mess around in there. And it's not like I even tried that hard to make everything nice and tidy, I just shoved everything through the holes. The extra space compared to my old one is pretty nice, too. Anyway, it's making a pretty big difference, so that's nice. Idle temps aren't quite as low as I'd hoped but Old Blood is down to much more reasonable temps now (mid 50s versus borderline 80s before). IDDQD
I still dread replacing stock cooling system on GPU card more than anything else wheen it comes to fiddling around with computer insides. At least CPU has some shielding, while GPU core is butt naked - very easy to chip away the sillicone. Anyway, that's some pretty decent cooler, you could try OC now. What kind of case do you have? toxicitizen
I have a Corsair Vengeance C70. Not my build but it gives you a better idea of how much space there actually is in there. And yeah, I don't think I'd ever mess around with replacing a GPU's cooler. My cousin once broke a brand new card trying to install one. He had bought two, so he still had one left but man, that was a lot of money going right out the window.
TheMightyEthan
Sunset Overdrive season pass. Finished the main game and still want more. Plus I had like $42 in XBL credit (I have no idea where it came from, because I did not have nearly that many points when the points expired, and there haven't been any weird card charges from MS either). *Edit - Oh FFS, apparently MS charges sales tax now on XBL purchases. Lame. I mean, I assume they're being required to do it, not doing it out of the goodness of their heart, but it's still lame. TCP
Bought myself some Wild Hunt on PS4, since it's 10% off on PSN and you can play it at 4pm next Monday which just happens to be a holiday....

toxicitizen
Humble Weekly Bundle: RPG Edition I mostly got it for Pier Solar and, to a lesser extent, Rollers of the Realms. Pier Solar looks like a great throwback JRPG and I've been meaning to get it for a while. Never heard of most of the other games but I went for the 8$ tier because I'm curious about Agarest: Generations of War. I could use a decent SRPG on Steam. Actually, I could use Disgaea on Steam. But that's probably never happening.
