Grand Theft Auto

The resolution could just be an artifact of the news sites' images, not necessarily the resolution it was actually rendered at, and shadows and textures could just be the result of the game being limited by the consoles and the PC port not being appropriately beefed up (because that's never happened before...)

Specifically this one:

I would assume the post-processing is heavy in this one. GTA screenshots have always looked better than the actual games. Hell, that shot in particular looks to be a cut above the other screenshots.

Just look at the last two. Suddenly, the game isn't looking like some graphical masterpiece.

I still can't get over GTA4. I still hold a personal grudge. How many years has it been since it came out? 5?

It was the first game I bought that I thought was bad. Not just bad, but terrible. I paid 60 bucks on release day. It still stings.

RDR deserved a sequel more than this thing. Too bad it's not nearly as popular.

  • 2 months later...

I think they learned their lesson with Max Payne 3: Get it out on PC early and people will still buy it. If it's not a simultaneous PC release, it'll be at most within 2 months, I'd bet.

Either way, it's the usual April/May Rockstar release that's been par for the course this generation (GTA4 was April, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Max Payne 3 were all May, iirc). Game Informer announcing an 18-page feature bonanza this coming issue pretty much confirmed it before the pre-order posters even needed to.

I imagine it'll be much further played upon this time. iPhone was relatively new back during GTAIV development. The phone in use within the game is still and old fashioned bar phone with buttons n such (SR3 brings in a smartphone). Quite a lot changed between then and now actually (of which the recession seems to be the biggy of GTAV)

I haven't played SR2, but I really liked the use of the smartphone in SR3. I felt it was a really good way to provide you with a very computery menu without breaking you out of the game world. It didn't scream "NOW YOU'RE LOOKING AT GAME OPTIONS BECAUSE YOU'RE PLAYING A GAME" it was just "now you're looking at your phone". GTAIV was similar, but IIRC they didn't use it for as much.
