Mr. GOH!
You know my console remarks are pure snark. Not that a console gamer would understand anything but the most simplistic interpretation of any utterance.
TheFlyingGerbil
Nintnendo finally announced details of its first mobile game and... their stock dropped 10%. I say game, it is some sort of weird messaging app for "introverted people" to find out info about their friends they wouldn't normally share/ask. So kind of creepy? And while they've been saying all along it will be released this year it has been pushed back to March 2016. Seems like the core functionality is free and all you'd pay for is things like outfits for your Mii so easy not to spend money, but tempting if you want to. I doubt I'd be spending money unless they were cheap. E.g. I like some of the 3DS themes, and I'd buy them if they were, say 50p, but as they are nearer to £2 they are eating into game-buying money. TheFlyingGerbil
Nintendo's first proper mobile game (available first for iOS, this December - presumably Android next year). It's a sort of endless runner, free to download with in-app purchases. I'm sure it will get plenty of downloads, but it will be interesting to know if they make any money from it, and if it's a success on their terms, which I believe they stated wasn't so much to make money in its own right, but to bring more people into the Nintendo fold. Also will be interesting, come March if it has any link to the NX, either with a Mario game on the console, or if it will be available on the console itself maybe. deanb
I imagine they'll make money off it. Pokemon GO is raking in a fair bit, up to $400m last I heard making it one of the more profitable Pokemon games. It's just a bummer still not doing a VC app.
TheFlyingGerbil
I don't think we'll get a VC app until Nintendo abandon hardware.
Mr. GOH!
Of course Nintendo's doing a Mario endless runner. So innovative.
Mal
But it will be the most polished endless runner, nay, smartphone game in existence.
FMW
I think the real story here is the Mario image they use in the Super Mario Run promotion. Look at that. Stitching visible on the overalls. Different shades of brown on the shoes. Probably the NX render they're working with. It's a brave new world ladies and gentlemen. Thursday Next
It's like they speeded up original Mario. But with some more fancy jumping. Ninty fans are gonna gobble this up.
TheMightyEthan
That actually does look kinda fun... Too bad it's iOS only.
TheFlyingGerbil
It's only a timed exclusive, so while annoying it could be worse.
